  1. Schneider and maxima have always been favourites of mine.
  2. My mate had heaps of trouble with it too yesterday. Didn't cast very well, had avery bad memory (kinda like me) and kept getting twists and loops in it. One positive is that knots were very easy to tie and sat very well.
  3. My mate just bought some and we goin out to test it today. I'll let you know what he thinks of it tonight.
  4. I've often considered using those squid floats with the mirrors around the bottom part for things like kings and salmon. I should really give it a go. Have you had any success with this method?
  5. Thanks guys you are champions, have a karma point each. My next effort will probably be on sunday so I'll let ya know what I try and how I go.
  6. I'm not using a scent, have thought about it but I think if I'm gonna do that I may as well use bait. Have heard a lot about those camo worms and think I might pick some of them up. Not real sure though on how to fish them.
  7. Went down to west lakes again after work today and Had no luck at all. Think I might grab some different Soft plastics befor my next effort. If you could only have 2 packs of softies for bream fishing what would you get? I've got a pretty good selection of grubs and powerbait minnows as well as storm twitching nippers. I didn't really wanna ask this as I wanted to work it out by myself but am getting worried I'm not gonna meet my goal. Also what size jighead would people recomend? I know to go as light as possible but What size hook? The last couple of times I've got a few hits but no hookups.
  8. I thought that too but we've eaten 3 and only one turned out to be what I would call nice. Any I catch in the future will be going back. Last year when we went down there we caught one and thought "What the hell is that?" come home and did some research found out what they were. Befor that weekend I thought they were only caught in victoria too but I have heard since that at certain times of the year they turn up in certain places. Just gotta be in the right place at the right time. Think it has to do with spawning?
  9. Its been a while so I was down that way today So I put in an hour in west lakes. Got a few more hits and a couple of follows but no hookups again. I think I learnt something though as I changed my retrieve a little and it seemed to be working. I had the biggest box fish I have ever seen follow it in one cast and hit it a few times but the jighead couldn't find the tiny mouth. So after 2.5 hrs still no luck. Probably heading down there on sunday so hopefully have some luck then.
  10. Had a quick look around the store today and It had some good stuff and a pretty good range but I didn't think the prices were too flash. I am of the opinion that anaconda is the same.
  11. Must be a time of year thing. All the elephant sharks we caught over easter had them latched on somewhere or other.
  12. Get some horne's! Mine nust be getting close to 10yrs old and I've never had a hole, tear, broken buckle or any malfunction at all. Plus they're a South Australian company and you can pick them up from a sponsers store. Everybody wins.
  13. Have some karma for a great picture and using an alvey!
  14. On calmer beaches I just use the dropper loops as the 3 way swivels, as has been said before, means 3 knots to tie and 3 knots to fail. On surf beaches with more swell and current I use 3 way swivels. Too many headaches caused by line twist and I believe that you need your rig sitting the best you can to get the most bites and hookups.
  15. This is my biggest that I have a photo of. Sorry about the quality of the photo (not the vodka). Have caught 2 over 2kg but can't dig up the photo's at the moment.[thumb]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj209/kayakfisher/75ace074-70cd-43af-92a9-d3c3d144069.jpg?[/thumb]
  16. This was my biggest and My first eagly.[thumb]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj209/kayakfisher/DSC02863.jpg?t=1239780297[/thumb]We caught a few more over the weekend but they were all so similar in size it was impossible to tell which one was bigger.
  17. Here's my biggest shark (apart from a doggy). Its an elephant shark from salt creek. the last couple of times we been down there we have been plagued by them.[thumb]http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj209/kayakfisher/DSC02899.jpg?t=1239779944[/thumb]
  18. Signed up to facebook a while ago and the only reason I still use it (maybe once a fortnight) is to stay up to date with a few friends overseas. If it wasn't for them being over there I would just use the internet for strikehook and my internet banking. Maybe occasionally researching a new purchase.
  19. I normally lose 1 or 2 a trip i reckon. Once I lose a couple my casts generally get a bit more "safe" and into more open water. One exception is at the South Para Dam. I always seem to find some lures while fishing up there and always come home with more than when I get there. Sometimes they need new trebles but that still makes a cheap lure.
  20. Once again my alvey came through on the weekend. Spent most the weekend covered in sand and went into the salt a couple of times when the rod holder ripped out the ground. While other reels were dying all around me (3 in total) the alvey kept going and even pulled in a few rays.
  21. I had a lever drag for a while. Til some pricks stole it. I thought my old reel was good so bought another one. The lever drag was good but a bit harder to find with your finger tips in the heat of battle.
  22. I've got a 12 (144) foot wilson set up for an alvey and I love it. It was lighter than the snyderglass equivalent and when you've got the weight of an alvey you want it to be as light as possible.
  23. Alveys are the most reliable reel in the world there's no doubt of that. I have one that is 30+yrs old and has never had any repairs until earlier this week. And all that it needed was a $2 spring that just clipped in. They are using a lot of the same parts they were 30yrs ago. There is nothing better for winching a salmon up onto a cliff, Or dragging a big mully up the beach. Sand and salt don't worry them either.
  24. I imagine a SP on a paternoster rig will do about the same Might try it out this weekend.
  25. I normally use poppers tony. Have caught mulloway, salmon and even elephant sharks on them. Very good idea when teamed up with another dropper with a pilchard. The smelly pilchard brings 'em round then they hit the pilchard. If you miss that bite they will go after the popper. If you get a hookup on the first hit of the cast its normally on the pilchard or squid, second and any after that is normally on the popper.
