  1. Have definitely seen pics of some real ugly ones. Does anyone know why some fish get these knobs and maybe the reason behind it?It seems to me that there are more ugly knobs on the east coast fish and on smaller models than in waters down here.
  2. It is sad to see that a few no longer wish to share their experiences for fear of being put down, either due to not catching or out dated gear or not the right type of fish. Most join these types of boards to share their fishing stories or for a few hints and tips while trying new avenues of fishing or new to fishing altogether. I have thought for a while that the groups may have taken people away from the general discussion board. Fishing reports can be very generalised as far as locations and secret baits go and if you dont wanna share secrets with everyone there is always the pm option whe
  3. There is nothing like a good fishing story and hopefully more people put them up. Its a great way to encourage others that may have been a little slack or couldnt find the time to get enthused and out fishing again
  4. Tried the bimini quite a bit now but I am preferring the aussie plait. Seems to work better for me. Do like the look of that gt knot so will give that one a go. Another knot to add to the arsenal

I thought about the balloon thing a while ago but with a northerly wind it is too calm and a good strong southerly to roughen up the water will blow ya bait right back at ya.
  6. Yet another exceler da fan. Got a 2500. I even rang the Australian daiwa rep as I was thinking of going a model or 2 up in the range but was told that the exceler is really in the sweet spot as far as performance and features vs cost. Too many decisions to make when looking for new fishing gear, but its better than christmas when you have a new piece of fishing gear in ya hot little hands.Good luck with it
  7. Yep know all about those bloody games But Im lucky. He is keen as to go for a fish. And havin his own tackle he can go now with mum or something without worrying about taking the wrong gear of mine.
  8. Necer used one. Sound like a good idea on paper for the travelling fisho but I wouldnt trust one myself
  9. Im sure he'll keep it up chuckemback. He has already claimed my ugly stick and now has his 9ft shimano combo. He has already blown ( I mean invested very wisely) all his christmas and birthday money in tackle. He is very dedicated, even to the point of reading my Geoff Wilson knots and rigs book to work out what knots he should be using for rigs. If im not careful I reckon he'll be claiming the boat before to long
  10. Better to be informed I say. But its all in the wording as to how the message is received. As Carps said as long as most fishos behave themselves as in abiding by the rules then there really isnt too much that can be done. Up the penalties for those that break the rules and leave those of us that do the right thing alone to enjoy our sport.
  11. Good rod. Sandy whiting has one with a daiwa emcast sport on it. Can cast a mile with it
  12. Sure do. Beaches have warnings about everything too. In a hundred languages, the signs are huge Depends how people look at it. Will sign posting the dangers that are present at the beach deter people going to the beach or do people prefer to be informed????

They must be naughty fishos up there What is needed though is a representative of the fishing community to speak up and put some facts out there to alleviate any irrational thinking that will most likely occur in some pollies brains and effect our much loved pasttime.
  14. Whats wrong with the official/legal carapace measurement. Cant measure a crab with only 1 claw
  15. Dont think that I have ventured into a tackle store where you cant get an alvey, granted they might be right at the back of the display cabinet . Yeah they are definately old fashioned and are not a smooth as silk finesse reel. But try to break it . And a rumor I just got wind of yesterday by a bloke that has the last 8144 snyder glas blank left is that wilson have bought the mandrels from snyder glas and will be producing them, so yay, old school rods arent dead yet.
  16. Cant say Im real keen on it.
  17. Hey bro I think that might be considered cheating. Thats more than 1 pic

    Alvey ??

It certainly looks like an old alvey there but it has been modified. The handle shouldnt be like that. Where the aluminium handle is bolted is where there are usually plastic/bakelite knobs. Obviously done for a bit more cranking power :cheer:
  19. Its good to see that some councils can see the benefit in stocking fish. And by adding bbq's toilets and jettys will make it a more desirable spot to take the family for a picnic and a bit of a fish which will ultimately benefit the area as people will spend money close to where they are for drinks food petrol bait and tackle etc.
  20. Im guessing thats the cardboard containers with plastic lids like long life milk containers.

    Bag Limits

carps wrote: Mate Im the same. Qld rules were no jenny's at all and I apply the same down here. The more females the more babies. Fish for the future. One of my lads had a ball catchin crabs the other week with me netting in a boat (pity I kept throwin em back thinkin they were under sized) and I hope that he can continue to do that for years to come

    Bag Limits

I reckon you could halve the crab limit and it would still be fair. As you said del take a couple of kids with ya and the bag limit increases.I love my snapper fishing but I even think the bag on that is excessive 2 large and 10 ruggers if ya bag out. Thats a lot of fish to eat. My bro in law loves his snapper fishing too ,has been out in his boat and been back in under an hour cos he got his 2 large already and he knows the chance of gettin a rugger is low so came back in.Its nice to catch fish for hours on end and why not but if get ya feed and a few for the freezer why not catch and release
