  1. Alot of people think they are protected i must admit i did too
  2. Hey mate, depends a bit on your sense of adventure, but the aptly named 'suicide point' past the lighthouse is one of my favourite mandated spots in the right conditions...you'll need long casts, a flying cliff gaff and a steady nerve, but this recipe has seen many a big red subdued up the cliff face. In the 70's 30 pounders were not uncommon. Last year I managed a pigeon pair of 12 pounders, plus some dinner-plate sized sweep. Just be careful or you may die.
  3. Ok guys i reckon you've made your points and hopefully the message has got through. No need to sink the boot in when someone's down. Thread closed.-Global moderator.

    bali

ahh no worries- i was picturing more of a rickety canoe. Many sharks around that way?

    bali

Ummm, yeah it's a fair bet that that was not the most reputable charter going around. Please don't take this the wrong way, but it sounds like they "Saw you coming". 5oo bucks in Bali is a small fortune- next time start your bidding around 20 bucks, and certainly no more than 100 for that type of operation. Guess it's easy in hindsight, we've all been ripped off. At least you got into a couple.

    Henley

from what i've heard the end of the metro jetties was a pretty hairy place to fish in the 70's and 80's- apart from the heavy tackle action there was quite a few other unsavoury activities on the go, as well as quite a few girls your mother wouldn't approve of. Actually- sounds bloody great! I was born in 76 and remenber walking out on Henley with the family one night after tea- i remember the tarpaulin set up out the end, the big game reels, and a mamoth shovel nose, the scream of a ratchet, and a mamoth shovel nose hitting the planks
  7. A mate bagged a beauty at Salt Creek a couple years ago. There is a small cult of dyhard fishos who target them specifically in winter- 4 kilo line, a light running sinker and a frogmouth pilchard are the recipie. They get them off metro jetty ends, with Semaphore being a standout. Not all that common, but they do seem to turn up spasmodically

  9. Yeah it's definetely a hard slog to the ledge Snake !! (sorry to hijak the thread). What have you had best luck with there species wise?

    Surf rods

last time i was at chiro she was complaining that her shoulders, back and arms ached....just after i'd spent a week tangling with some toothy critters at dogfence on some sloppy tackle
  11. try "The Ledge" if you know where it is. All i can say is its the best land based spot in SA for a range of species, and virtually on our back door step. Can't say too much before the SA angler publish the article
  12. great fresh baits there. The run is probably well under way by now, and during the peak period, which lasts about a week, you can expect the bite to shut down considerably, as most species gorge themselves on the abundant juicy offerings.
  13. I reckon the Torrens still houses some real suprises. I remember getting Mum to drop me and 3 mates off under the King William Street Bridge about 20 years ago with some dubious tackle and a loaf of Tip Top's White high fibre. When the dust settled a few hours later we had a pile of 123 Carp and a half dozen thumpimg feral gold fish.
  14. That is totally off the hook. Great piece of writing too. Lots of those jetties on Yorke's are great for sharks in the right winds- can i ask about baits?
  15. Well i trecked to the end of the breakwater- and believe it or not- No tuna! (That was before i read the greg irvin comment). Not all bad news though, ans i did manage to bag a pan size snapper (released and an XOS leather lacket that went down a treat on the barbie, washed down with a neice Chianti. There were a few stray salmon trout around aswell. Cheers.
  16. Im converted! Sounds possible. Im going to treck to the end of the break wall, establish a burley trail, and throw some unsecured fresh pilchards and lures around. Try and take one of these suckers down land based.
  17. It's got to be crap. Sorry- for them to report them in that column it means they have been landed- unless someone LAUNCHED at outer harbour and cruised over to Wedge Island i am sceptical until proven wrong- would love to be wrong in this case.
  18. Have you red much of zane gray? Its the next best thing to being there
  19. Hey guys, looks like the trusty summer yellowish whiting and bluies are slowing gradually, and the mullet run is kicking in to top gear. Anyone keen to share mullet techniques and locations? Ive had two good hauls from chinamans and tennyson lately, using mince, cockles and pilchards. An essential inclusion in the normal boot load of gear is a sling shot, which shoots barley pelets nicely out over the sandbars
  20. Ps is that a smooth marijuana cigarette you are lifting back on?
  21. Mullet dig the humble cockle. A cheaper Orion. Is the seaweed worm you can find on most beaches, a ffleck of bribed pillow, or even some boiled potato dipped in honey, which is also a prime carp bait.
  22. Hey jigsaw, where do you bag your bullies on yorkes,? I have bagged a few at the customs, but I haven't got gleesons wired yet. Also done ok at berry bay. Any tips anyone
  23. You're a sporting man on that cobweb gear! I like to max it out when tangling with Rays in the "Unstoppable" class
