  2. loop knot in 4lb hereno point worrying about how ya gonna pull them out if your not getting the strikes in the first place
  3. Why Pink HF? Would a more natural presentation be a likely candidate for some attention. Something long and flashy like a garfish maybe. No fly fisherman, and definately no fly tier, so take the words with a grain, no a shaker of salt. Good luck with though
  4. David_C wrote: NOPE!DONT USE braid, Mono only! As for capacity doubt there is any spinning reel that can even come close.
  5. rocknev wrote: Nev, perservere mate. I promise you with time you will not need to see the bait, nor have to wait for the splash of the bait hitting the water on those super calm quiet nights. The speed of the spool on your thumb will do it all for you and you wont even realise u are doing it!

Again a pic would help here I'm sure.David_C wrote: I know Nev will agree here, hard to beat an alvey. 650C5 is the ducks guts, but u'll need a suitably built rod with the low winch mount. The came the seamartin, no longer available I believe. As for current crop, I believe there are some daiwa reels, emcast I think that would be worth investigating. Personally, I've used a BTR6500 for throwing baits from the stones, as well as the alvey described above and ABU 7-10,000's, but we digress from YOUR probl
  7. Now I'm confused Is the new reel the one with the larger spool or the old one?Yeah I'm saying that the wider the spool and the larger the diameter the longer, in theory, the casts should be with comparable weight line, sinkers, and on the same rod.An alvey's large diameter is what provides it with such casting distance. Also if the spool is narrow, the line exiting the spool depletes the load quicker creating more friction for the rest of the line, slowing down the cast.Hard to explain without pictures. But have u ever tried casting with a half empty spinning reel spool & then compared th
  8. Buzza I think its the general rule for salties, but think a falling barometer puts the freshies off the boil. The likes of Tonyb will put you right on the later, I'm sure
  9. David, how much shorter are the casts & how much wider is the daiwa's spool?Personally, I think the spool is the reason for the loss of distance.
  10. Are we talking same size reels & line David?Spool diameter will have an effect of distance as will the breaking strain of the line. Braid may assist in that its thinner for any given breaking strain when compared to mono, but think you might need to give us some more information
  11. samboman wrote: Sambo, its obviously your call, but IMHO, if u dont have experience casting larger overheads with large baits, in less than ideal conditions, I'd be sticking with a spinning reel. Casting on the oval is no substitute for the real thing & i'm sure you wouldnt want such a trip ruined on account of your frustrations casting the outfit.Your call obviously
  12. I wouldnt be so hard on yaself chuck. Watched it for the first time today. Enjoyed it mate, well done.
  13. Cheers Chinu.Yeah shouldnt be too hard to find. At least I hope not Again good luck with your quest

  16. I feel for ya Chinu Also lost a treasured & reliable friend at that comp, but think mine is gonna be more easily replaced Good luck with it mate, hope you find what ya after
  17. mate a boat limit only applies where there are 3 or more anglers on the one vessel. Any less than that number and the personal limit for that species applies. So to sumarise your question you could never technically take a boat limit from a Kayak, unless it had three or more anglers on it.

  19. brenton wrote: Interesting observation Brenton. I like the sound of that too, but what effect do you think that would have on the stocks? Good or bad? Personally, I think initially it would be to the detriment but then once the initial excitement of open season wore off things would perhaps go back to a status quo.Your thoughts
  20. Yeah, heard it was pretty busy around the place. Probably two thirds that amount south of there on another recognised ground, but I expect the weather might have had a bit to do with that. Word is it wasnt pretty
  21. Coight, glad to hear you & your crew did so well. But there are two VERY IMPORTANT things u have omitted!1. No pictures. Without photogenic evidence none of what you say can be taken in any seriousness and therefore we can only assume that this never happened!2. You fail to tell us were this spot was so again I can only conclude that its a made up story to rub salt into the wounds of us poor soles who for various reasons were saddled behind a desk while u and countless others were playing around with some piscatorial delight! Glad you found them mate, not sure how word got out so quick,

Full points however for looking at ways of encouraging and harbouring family based recreational fishing.
