  1. mashed up pillies or any oily fish, tuna oil helps.
  2. WOW!! never knew they would come in that shallow!
  3. ya cheeky bugga!!!!!! shoulda stuck to the beach with you guys instead of sharking!!!!!!!
  4. Snowdens beach has a few and the shore along semaphore to outer harbour has them but the tide has to be low and calm water.
  5. I agree with you plankton, overheads are good in the surf as in case ya hook up a shark or a ray it pays to have to decent line capacity. Plus in some places like the murray mouth, line capacity is important as in strong currants the fish can spool ya with a spinning reel so the overheads really pay in places with currents.
  6. No worries give it a go its pretty good fishing there.
  7. Actually I know a spot where you should pull some bream at around this time of the year... the pontoons near the AAMI Stadium, also caught squid here, if its calm you will see them swimming around, I have done well here.
  8. Ya wont need them The bream were in around 10 incles of water, and ya might have to go commando-style of fishing to sneak up on them! Did ya spot any fish today?
  9. Should head out in the morning I saw the big bream and the garfish near where I live (the flats by the rowing club). With the garies it might be worth tying one of those shrimp flies heres a link: http://books.google.com.au/books?id=dfh7YoKiz_oC&pg=PA62&lpg=PA62&dq=amphipod+flies&source=bl&ots=N6SLbgnL31&sig=yQ7HtIFH0-0gI0EWNrHYd1HLD60&hl=en&ei=vS2iSv2fEozo6gPa06XpCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3#v=onepage&q=amphipod%20flies&f=false the fly would also be worth using on the big cruisers hanging around.
  10. Any calm day should be worth a go, saw some big garfish too, would be fun on fly.
  11. Wondering where you have been! BTW There is some good bream starting to show up, I reckon they will be suited to your flies as they are basking or just cruising the shallows.I hope your knee gets better, and get some real nice bream this season!
  12. I agree as snapper are scavengers and dead bait that smells a bit is natural to them.
  13. Squid are hell wicked bait!! the only metro eaglie I got was on a squid caught at semi!
  14. Salmon and fiddler rays were great in milk,(rated equal to whiting) turns out to a mild taste, give it a try!
  15. I used to get them on mono too with a shitty old reel, but now once ya use braid you will see an increase in the catch rates. Happy hunting!
  16. With bream, they can be very shy at times, and at times will only hit the lure very gently and you need the braid too feel it as with mono and fluro is too stretchy. When you get a hit strike the instant you feel it otherwise its a lost fish. At times the bream can be so agressive that they will just grab it like what a salmon would do. 90% of my bream caught on lures have only hit it very lightly. Braid has a crap abrasion resistance compared to mono, and fluro is the best abrasion resistance, but some brands have a lot of memory so it cant be fished with as succesfully as mono and braid, hen
  17. You are making me hungry! pity we dont have any squid left
  18. For bream, you can get away with a 2 kilo leader anywhere except for the nastiest structure. In stucture I would stick to 10lb and use the same stuff for leader or have the leader at 12lb, this is for bait fishing. If ya wanna use lures you will need to buy a seperate outfit, a 2-4 kilo graphite rod around 7 foot in legnth and a 1500-2500 reel spooled with 4-6lb braid, and at this stage you will need to learn how to tie leaders to the mainline as swivels spook the bream when using the lure. Have a fluorocarbon trace in 6lb to 10lb as a good starting point, also make the leader the legnth of th
  19. Next time I go to Adrossan I will score some squid and give it a go, previously if I wanted them tender I would cook them for a long time on low heat, but I reckon your idea sounds better.
  20. iwill try that thats a pretty useful tip! Karma to ya!
  21. Snorkelling around the local metro beaches in over 2m of water might get them, otherwise ya might need to get a boat and razorfish tongs to get them. Look for seagrass/mud bottom in over 2m of water at low tide should get them in metro waters. When I lived in cowell they would be sticking out of the sandbanks at low tide, but its different here as there is a lot more pressure and the only ones left are out deeper.
  22. Yeah it casts great even when I was using light weoghts.
  23. http://www.motackle.com.au/index.cfm?pr=product&product_id=1578 The best info I could obtain from the net, and its also where I got the blank.
  24. Can vouch for the Snyder MT6110, might be a bit hard to get hold of now but these rods were designed with salmon in mind and perect for casting lures and bait. I used mine with both a spinning reel and an ABU 6500.
