  1. I for one refuse to make a permanent decision on the jetty until I see all the information on the table. That includes impact studies, fish stocks, proposed development, associated costings etc. I was under the impression that it was a demolish or restore scenario. would Mobil demolishing the jetty cause more harm to current aquatic life? I think a lot of people are looking at this from a purely fishing perspective. At some stage this area WILL be rezoned and redeveloped, whether that's in 2 years or 20 years. A community perspective needs to be taken - imagine glenelg or henley without jettie
  2. Do a search you'll find plenty of info availablehttp://www.strikehook.com/forum/35-bait-tackle/250569-waxwing-lures#250576
  3. Mainly on my surf setups. Caught the 18kg gummy in my pic on it plus plenty of rays and even a seven gill. Had BIG runs on them and they seem to love it. Also use it for live baiting on metro mullies that I don't catch. They have seen some action and haven't skipped a beat. Coated in water and sand (as surf gear does) quick rinse after the trip and all good. They may feel and look like they are dated but as said before bulletproof and reliable.
  4. I have the Live liner 760 good reels using the HT100 drag. super smooth and absolutely bulletproof. solid construction and my two have been thrashed. Both loaded with 30lb braid but i'd go for 20lb on the 560. You won't be disappointed with it, simple and well built
  5. What a beast! What gear did he catch it on?
  6. +1 on the dropper loop, I also use it on all my surf setups. Swivels are good though when there's decent surf
  7. A tried an tested rig which has produced many fish from the surf. If your chasing surf mullies, I might shorten the leader to the hook to lift the live off of the surf floor. I would probably also use two hooks due to the force when casting could pull a single hook. Do forget you can also use fresh dead bait and cut out the back section to get the fillets flapping in the surf. Imitates a live bai quite well
  8. Was thinking something a little different would look cool. Excuse the crap editing but I only have Paint to work with.Would prefer the background silhouette on this forum if it was available
  9. I just use excel spreadsheet with preset boxes, a database would be ideal but unable to find a decent free programme. With a database you could run queries to see what type of conditions provide the most fish.
  10. You've got my money - at least $200 over the year
  11. even at $60 I'd get a tournament top too! Grey hoodie with large fish symbol looks nice.
  12. Just sit in low range 3rd gear (manual) and putt through. I'd let my tires down lower for heavy sand, say to 15psi. It'll motor through, I've been chassis deep and still motor through. Don't stop anywhere that looks soft. If you get stuck, reverse before you dig in. You can get out of 90% of bogs that way. You'll learn what your vehicle is capable of and become more confident. I even pulled people out that were chassis deep in the soft stuff, had my fair share of sketchy moments but always carried the shovel and recovery gear just in case
  13. I'll be keen to get one of each - except the hat cos I don't think it'll fit over my hair. Just an idea, what about a s&h pack, x amount of dollars and in that pack you get stickers, hoodie, shirt and hats. By the sounds of it people are keen for any s&h merch (me included). In regards to handing over money, it sounds like a good excuse to meet at one of the many fine hospitality establishments throughout this city!
  14. Fair call, I've got 255 Goodyear wranglers and they've been salt creek and back 3 times now. Definately put some wider tires and rims on the wish list
  15. Road tires go well on sand as they don't dig in as much. Seen many people bogged using mud chuckers in the sand
  16. Thanks for all the ideas, I was probably more confused than when I started :cheer: With my funds low I decided to keep the sienna and picked up a okuma trio 6ft. Any thoughts on these rods? Feels OK so time to go get some fish! on it
  17. Well broke my light rod fitted with a sienna 1000 so after a new setup. Looking for something that will be good for flicking both hard bodies and soft plastics as far as possible. My price limit is $200 for both rod and reel. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated
  18. Wouldn't look at live baiting a crab, damn thing will tangle your line id say. Was thinking a half or quarter crab. This way the other crabs would leave the bait alone and hopefully hook onto a Mully. Myself I've been sticking with mullet but im willing to try something new. If hooked correctly it should survive the cast and surf, surely?
  19. Noticed in my last few outings to surf beaches that sand crabs tend to hang round a bit. Also noticed that most gummies I caught either had them in their mouths or stomachs. Obviously This would be a good bait for gummies and most likely snapps. Will salmon and mullies take the bait as well? What's the best way to rig them up as I've never used crabs for bait, only for eating.
  20. This has probably been a topic before but thought i'd ask where people source their bait and other goodies from. For me , lately I have been going to the fish factory on grand junction rd before I head out of town. They have whole mullet (primo surf mully bait) for about $9.00 a kilo, pilchards for about $7 a kilo and often they have bags of fish heads or whole tommies and shitties for $4.The best thing is they have 20kg bags of shaved ice for $6 which is absolutely perfect for a trip away as the ice will stay as a block for over 5 days with a good esky.Did also read something about 25kg of sal
  21. cheers guys. love the night photography atm. hopefully get some star trails and do some light painting on the next trip
  22. Hmm, not keen on ditching $60 odd bucks of mullet and pilchards. I'm Hoping I put them in other bags before putting them in the scented ones, but I don't like my luck. Will just give them a crack, who knows the fish might like the fish might like the smell of frangipannis :silly:
