  1. For a bit of fun one time, i took my Hyundai lantra down there, we got right upto where it was getting really soft near the mouth and i decided to turn back. It's pretty easy driving down there. Seems they are getting a few schoolies down there atm, inside the mouth, get them on cockle aswell!
  2. The gulf is a pretty big place, i don't know how chucking a couple of lumps of concrete down would increase numbers? maybe if you through a few 100 down?? but really it just looks like you are congregating fish together so you don't have to travel as far to find them, like the person above me said.

High tides around 6 30! goodluck, let us know how you go!
  4. If you head to second valley, pick up some squid jags, plenty of squid down that way. If he wants to catch a fish pretty easy, head to the onkaparinga river, you may struggle to catch anything legal size but you will defiantly catch some fish and give him an experience
  5. Got 70 odd Mullet and half a dozen salmon trout down at sugars beach on sunday, Everyone was catching them, plenty around!
  6. One of my students caught a 35ish cm bream in the car park next to commercial bridge ( the onka ) I was very impressed. Cockle did the damage!
  7. They are still at porties, the old timers come through and pull a few Tsk Tsk. There are some over at Sullies, i have been meaning to get out and try and get some!
  8. Tryed a few different things, such as a shovel, found these easiest way is either use ur feet, or get on ur hands and knees above were the water comes up and dig on low tide!
  9. Cockling down at goowla today, got a decent amount after we spent a few hours trying to find a decent patch. Took a lil drive down to the mouth, bloke pulled in about a 20lb mullie, looked good!
  10. Few squid of porties, not the biggest but enough for a feed! they were getting a couple of salmon of the end of the jetty...and when i say end one bloke was casting over the reef
  11. Yeah that school of salmon has been hanging around for a lil while, might have to go chuck some lures tomorrow arvo if i find myself with some free time!
  12. Tryed perrys bend this afternoon, not even a bite. As i heard there were mullet in the area i tryed some mince but that didnt stay on the hook, i did have some steak but didnt get any bites, crabs were the only thing chewing on my pillies Uneventful afternoon!
  13. Nice catch there mate, was that baits or lures? And i was thinking about youtubing but wasn't sure if there would be anything for the onk, cheers for that!
  14. Yeah that's gonna be the trick, gonna have to do alot of trial and error to find a decent hole with some decent fish in it, Ta.
  15. Cheers, i think the plan is to come down to the onka stomp, if not to participate at least have a look. i have tryed a couple of spots along river road for mullies but to no success, guess ill have to keep looking for the right spot xD
  16. Evening folks couple of quick questions.I walked over the food bridge at southport this afternoon and chucked around a decent sized SP, trying to find a flat head with no luck, any pointers? i am thinking maybe it was to big but are there any even any there? is that a place they would be? Also i heard about people catching mullies at the mouth of the onk, how would one go about that? Is that throwing into the actual channel in front of the stairs or wading out into the surf and casting out there? And advice would be greatly appreciated,Cheers people!
  17. Thanks fellas, much appreciated. I had a bit of a stab in the dark it was something to do with the urine and stuff like that. Next time defiantly gut them as soon as we catch it, and luckily we had a pretty big esky so they fitted in there perfect I'll just have to go catch some more to practice xD
  18. We caught 3 on the weekend, left them in the ice box for a night, bled them before we put them in there. Got home and cleaned them up, put the fillets in the fridge then ate them last night. The problem, spots of flesh went this weird greeny colour, we cut it of and ate the rest and still alive today. My question, we thought it might be an ammonia build up? as we didn't gut the fish straight away. Thoughts? Much appreciated, Reeve.
  19. Haha i was very glad i went and bought a pair of waders before this trip!
  20. Never seen or heard of jinkai, does it go transparent in the water like fluoro carbon? Why is it better for big fish? Cheers
  21. Wasted so many baits feeding the crabs down at salt creek this weekend. All the gummies we pulled out had bellies full of sand crabs....so putting 2 and 2 together, cast out sand crabs on the hook, fish eat them and they won't get eaten by other crabs, i think?? win win? Just have to figure out how to catch a sandy in the surf :S

    Onka Tides

from my understanding the onk, by rule of thumb, is 2 hours behind the beach tide. I suppose that would be subjective to the distance up the river you are, but when im at work there, we work on 2 hours!
  23. What size would you use for yfw and flathead, i was thinking 15, is that fine? or could i go smaller comfortably? And what size would you use in places were u can get mullies and sharks, as i don't want a shark chewing through it, 60lb-80lb?? As i understand mullies won't take a wire trace!Cheers fellas
  24.
