Nice! Were you using waders by any chance? Or are the gutters in really close? No it was in April, so the water wasn't too cold. I've got a Daiwa Seajigger which can cast 70 gram metals a long way, but that day they were within an easy cast distance

I've only been to KI once, but had one of my best ever Salmon sessions at the second beach at Hanson Bay. I was casting lures into the gutters and caught a heap of 3-4kg size fish over a couple of hours. Interestingly there were others fishing near me using bait and didn't catch one.

Daiwa Seajigger and Shimano Stradic C14 4000 size reel. Fish the west coast regularly and love using this set up. Handles 4 kg + Salmon nicely.

I was there in April two years ago and had some unbelievably good Salmon sessions at Hanson Bay, which is not far from Vivonne Bay. There are two beaches at Hanson Bay. The first is a sheltered bay, the second is a more open surf beach. The open surf beach produced 4kg Salmon each time I fished there. Was using 70 and 90 gram metals. Not sure when this beach fishes best, but it was on fire when I was there.

I bought a yearly subscription for the magazine on my iPad, but it is always coming out late. Very frustrating when I want to read it and see it on the shelves. Regret paying for the subscription, would rather just buy it when it hits the shelves.

I bought one of the Black Magic Whiting Whackers more out of curiosity than anything. I've been fishing two rods the last few trips - one with a whiting whacker and the other with a standard paternoster rig with size 6 long shank hooks. I have caught quite a few on the whiting whacker but reckon I have lost more than I normally would have. I still prefer the long shank hook as opposed to circles for whiting.

lazer lures cast a mile and catch more fish. Tried the other ones but can cast the Lazers a good 20-30 metres further which is important sometime

Wondering if anyone can help me here. Been out on boats crabbing before and seen people using a telescope style viewer to see the bottom and see if their crab net has any crabs in it before pulling it up.Not sure what they are called. Recently bought a boat and want to get myself one, but so far i've had no luck in the fishing stores that I have looked in.Cheers.

Thanks for the reply and advice. Definitely happy to go with the Seajigger. Live in Whyalla so normally order my stuff through Mo's, but will be in Adelaide in a couple of weeks so will go into Ray and Annes when i'm down. Can I ask how much you paid for it and Ray and Annes?

Sounds like a good rod. I'm looking for a similar rod. Fished locks well last week with a 7 6" Shimano Raider Snapper. Handled some large Salmon easily but wasn't really long enough to get great casting distance.Was thinking of getting a Sensor Surf, which is $40 cheaper than the Seajigger 305 from MoTackle.What would be the better rod out of the two? Will be purely for casting metals at Salmon and would be matched to a 3000 Saros with 15 lb braid, but shortly a 4500 Eblem Pro with 20lb braid.

I'm looking at purchasing a baitcaster, and more specifically looking at the Daiwa range (either Tierra or Advantage). These reels seemed geared towards the bass fisherman and fresh water fishing. I would like to use the reel for Callop and Cod on the river, but would also like to take it out and use it offshore out of my kayak.Just wondering though whether these reels will get destroyed by the salt. I know Daiwa have a couple of models specifically designed for salt water use, but the Tierra and Advantage look smoother and better value. Neither have corrosion resistant bearings.So does anyone

Even in the unlikely event that a kayaker came across a Great White there is no guarantee that the shark is going to become aggressive. There has been quite a few kayak / shark encounters and no deaths or serious injuries that i'm aware of. I know in South Africa there has been incidents when a Great White has bitten a kayak, but nothing more than this.A Great White encouter could happen anywhere when going offshore in a yak. Fair enough you may be increasing your chances at some of the Snapper reefs, but I really don't think the risk is that great, although maybe i'm just trying to reassure m

I'm just putting a Salmon combo together. Got myself a Daiwa Exeler 4000 reel, which I will load up with 14 lb braid, and getting myself a Snapper Raider or Dropshot in the 5-8 kg class. Reckon his will be a well balanced combo

I just purchased a Shimano Symetre 2500 reel from Motackle. Looks and feels great. Haven't had a chance to test it out though yet

I say go for a kayak. I have done this and have absolutely no regrets and have caught some good fish. Don't think I will be buying a boat anytime soon

Didn't realise you had to wear a PFD in a kayak. For the first month or so I never had a PFD, but have bought one recently and always wear it.
