Tinker got a reaction from Squid Inc. in Metho and nippers
I dig my own bloodworms and dip them live in metho which makes them seize up and toughen up then freeze them.

Can see the method working on nippers and beach worms also.

Bream don't seem fussed about metho if you fish a whole bloodworm preserved in metho but they get picky if you cut the worms up coz they don't look natural.

Also heard stories about the folks who sprayed their lures in WD-40 and caught good fish off the jetties.

If you can source some nippers with your bait pump I would say put them live in metho before you freeze them so they don't soften up.

Just checked and my Symetre is a 1500.

Bought it years ago and looks a bit worn on the outside but all internal components still work smooth as silk.

Another good low priced Shimano reel is the Sedona.

Got a few Sedonas from 1000s to 4000s on my heavier rods for freshwater natives and I think they are the ducks nuts.

And you can't beat the 10 year warranty on all Shimano reels from the Siennas up.

If the metho works they might be more natural looking. I would have thought the metho taste would put off the fish, but they don't seem to mind it on worms.

Nope, can't say I have - worth a go if you catch some nippers (wonder if throwing them in a bag of rock salt would dry them out - just a random thought that entered my brain for a moment lol)

Interested in testing out that hook rigging technique using shrimp and yabbies on freshwater natives.

Pin through the mouth and pop the hook out on top of the carapace at the back of the head.

It will kill the crustacean but should make a good bait presentation.

Thanks Doobie,  I could quickly compensate for any pollution by picking up a couple of bits of rubbish on the waters edge, so I am not really to worried about that side of it. The other thing that I have been thinking about (I do over think things :)) is I have read that fish take nippers and prawns from the tail end as it help them swallow them. The way most people put a nipper on a hook, the hooks backwards when it goes into their mouth and the lines in the way. I am thinking of trying putting the hook through the meaty part of the tail from the bottom up, just once, then running the shank of the hook up between the legs on the out side and securing it around the body with elastic. This puts the eye of the hook at the head end and the hook facing the right way if its taken from the tail. As well as hopefully keeping the nipper alive longer. I have not had a chance to give it a try and I know it will take more time,  but maybe less time than rebaiting, or not knowing if you still have bait on the hook.

I've thought about using bait elastic on nippers but never bothered.
Mainly because I'm only casting say around 7 metres from the shore and have enough nippers to re-bait quickly.
Nippers are a great bait for whiting.
From a boat like you'll be doing, I understand the frustration of dropping the bait down the side and before it's maybe hit bottom the nipper has be attacked and of course you strike and more than likely the nipper has come off (being soft flesh) or eaten and you need to retrieve straight away.
The other thing with elastic is there is that little bit more plastic in the ocean, unless you get biodegradable.
With my nippers to help hold on a bit longer is to put a couple half hitches around the tail end - it does help a bit, but of course once the nipper has been attacked a few times by the YFW, the nipper can look a bit mangled.
However, I think bait elastic would certainly help in reducing the amount of re-baiting.

Those reels really punch above their weight.

This was a Symetre 2500 matched up with a Raider 1-4kg rod.

Strikepro Cyber Vibes or Tackle Tactics Swichblades.

They are both good and they cast a mile.

    And they vibrate like crazy.

Ever used blades in the suds Doobie?

Used them with success at the bottom of Yorkes at Suicide Point.

Also used smaller versions at St Kilda and Outer Harbour breakwall.

Agree with swapping the trebles with singles...less stress.

Fair enough doobie, if you're not comfortable with fishing from the rocks then don't do it, like I always say, "No fish is worth drowning for ".. I was used to it as I was a regular rock fisher back in my younger days right up until we moved to Tassie. Stick with what you know best mate..👍

    Thanks FECB
I didn't see any Tom Cruise bounding towards in the 'high point' position (luckily lol) - although a girl a use to know always thought I looked like Tom   I helped her cross a street and handed her white stick back
The gear I use - being nothing fancy - is a 11' Daiwa Seabass - Shimano Sienna FB4000 reel with mono backing topped with 15lb (cheap) braid, then swivel, then about 1 - 1/2 m of 20lb mono leader, the swivel and lure.
I only use 40g lures (rarely a 50g and only if wind is in my face) with a single hook (I always take off the trebles as they either grab weed if it is around and/or can be a little difficult to get a treble out of the fish).
There are many combinations others may use - many use much lighter gear, but generally cast a shorter distance - I like to be able to cast further out to get a better chance of a hit when retrieving. I can on average cast around 80m on a calm day but with wind at my back a 100m cast is achievable. (but maybe 50-60m if fresh wind is in my face lol)

Nice video, very windy conditions there too doobie.. Nothing better than hooking a few salmon in the surf, shame you lost more than you landed. The fish you did land was still a nice keeper anyway. When it used to blow from the North that's when I used to fish from the rocks between Waits & Parsons, used to fish well in those conditions as the fish were always in close to the rocks. The strong Northerlies always kept the swell down.. It wasn't all that easy getting to and from the rocks though, but the rewards were worth the effort.. Still I was a lot younger back then too..😃 Doubt I'd do it now days..
    cheers

Head to SFS,Rays or Port adelaide tackle and grab some Diawa RPM Cranks while you can. Once those stores run out of current stock that is it apparently.

Been thinking it’s might be time to spend more time chasing natives on the Murray and ressies. Have not fished the fresh except some creeks since I was a kid
after picking the brains of a couple on members on here I decided I needed a new setup to chase natives
here it is with a few bits of candy
