  1. aha, you fool. Never seen the tide up that high there
  2. One massive mullet right there - did he fall for a slug? I've caught them on small bream lures, never metals!
  3. save up, buy hornesI had cheapos before, turned out I wasted 80 buckshaving said that, if you're not wearing them all that often you may well be ok... But using them twice a week I went through the cheap pair pretty quick!
  4. gotta agree with the comment RE flickbaits, them things are awesome.

    Braid

take it to the shop you bought it from and get them to spool it up with a line machine.... You'll never get it on as tight as them
  6. do it - for everything that's made of it, flyfishing is pretty damn easy to learn the basics of. Give it 5 minutes and you'll be able to slap down a cast no problems. If you join, the club has a number of fly rods to loan out to members. Plenty of people (me included) would be happy to help out. A 5-weight would do the trick for what you want by the sounds of it in my limited knowledgeWatching a trout take a dry fly off the surface is something I think every fisho should experience - its great fun.
  7. Recently had a trip to California, where I spent just under 4 weeks living it up :woohoo: We did a road trip up the coast to San Fransisco, then check out Yosemite. I thought I'd share my experiences of Bass Pro Shop at rancho kookamunga, about an hour and a half from downtown LA. This place is three stories of fishing, camping, hunting and ourdoor gear. According to the website its 180,000 square feet - it was literally the size of footy park.Has a restaurant connected to it, which is apparently all right. But who'd eat there, I'd be spending my dollars on the gear inside!SAFWAA worldwide!Fr
  8. Marinading lamb is always good... I liked to go plenty of garlic, mint, rosemary and red wine.... Really soaks it up if you leave it overnight at least. Try this with chicken - it comes out as tender as any chook you'll ever eat!
  9. Got into a bit of cooking tonight..... Brought back a bunch of rabbits from a trip to the SE in January, haven't got around to doing much with them!Always found them to be dry when I've cooked them before, so I figured this could be a winner First up, brown rabbit in some butter, before pouring away any butter left at the end. After pouring out butter, add in lemon rind + wedges, a bunch of sage, rosemary, half a dozen garlic cloves and a cinnamon stick. Then pour in around a litre of milk, just enough to almost cover your rabbitAround 40 mins later all was doneWent well with the roast veggie
  10. Impoved clinch is easy, and heaps higher. I use that with light leaders sometimes.... Google it, just one more step to normal knot
  11. My thinking is... And I might be dreamingYou want the breaking strain of your leader/braid knot to be more than your leader to lure clip/swivel knotUsing 10lb leaders and 6lb braid.... I go a 5 turn surgeons, which is close to 100% breaking strain. I then use a simple clinch to swivel, which is around 40%Ends up snapping off at the lure clip every time. Not sure if my theory is correct, but it does work!
  12. I bought a Pelagic reel once...
  13. Bass Pro shop wasn't as cheap as this place!Still waiting on the photos from mate
  14. Found these on ebay, just had 2 packs rock up today, they seem all rightIncluding postage from the UK they set me back 6.50 for 3 tapered leaders.... Wouldn't pay that much for one of them - so I've been tying my own on occassions, but at this price I reckon its a winner!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FLY-FISHING-TAPERED-LEADER-9-Ft-6X-Trout-3PACK-UK-/400044425231?pt=UK_SportingGoods_FishingAcces_RL&hash=item5d2481800fIf I get them out to fish with and they're crap.... Well live and learn.
  15. medium rare for me...hold your index finger + thumb together - feel the fleshy base of your thumb - if steak feels like this = rare2nd finger = medium rare3rd finger = mediumpinkie = well doneBefore going on the grill of a red hot bbq (oil up the grill to stop sticking), salt + pepper, rosemary and garlic on both sidesquick minute, then turn 90 degrees to get a mad criss-cross pattern going onwhen it first starts to 'bleed', it needs to be turned.jeah
  16. had a great summer, very sad to see it done :(Learnt how to pump nippers and had heaps of sessions chasing YFW - getting a dozen or so each trip. Had a few great trips to the rocks (not as many as I'd like) and caught a few squid and garfish.Got my first metro snapper around 6-7 kiloSpent plenty of time casting flies early on and improved a lot at thisAlso some great redfin, biggest not quite at Jagger's level but i cracked 1kg a few times.Kinda dissapointed to be chasing salmon and not much else for the next months!
  17. use waders almost everywhere - if you're careful I don't see any reason to be particularly concernedUse them at browns, waitpinga and similar beaches - wear a big spray jacket over the top - only ever go in about thigh deep at the most - its really just for keeping my feet/shins dry
  18. Heading down to Goolwa's a great day out as well fellas, not hard to gather up your limit from the times I've done it.I imagine its one of those times that having kids really pays off
  19. in 6lb gotta be Nitlon for me Love the stuff, every time I get a knot, I pull it out and smile, having reminded myself why I keep buying it :laugh:Tho I put 30lb power pro on my heavier gear not long ago - only used it once, but seemed like a good buy, especially at
  20. wish I could get to this one fellas, work gets in the way :(Keen as to learn how its done!
