  1. Just received from SARFAC'No' to recreational fishing licences SA Premier Mike Rann rejects the idea of fishing licences for recreational anglers. (ABC News: David Burge)Audio: The Conservation Council's Jamnes Danenberg says recreational anglers should be licensed. Related Story: Licence push for recreational anglers South Australian Premier Mike Rann has ruled out introducing recreational fishing licences. The Conservation Council says licences could help stop recreational anglers depleting species numbers, and the money raised could go towards researching the effects of climate change on fis
  2. A slightly different angle on this one. YOU ARE ALL ALREADY PAYING FOR IT, a catch though, nobody is accountable for it.Buy bait from a tackle shop, you pay GST, in turn the store pays GST, buy it from a fish monger & you don't pay GST nor do they.Register your boat or Yak, pay a levy & GST, the catch, nobody is accountable.Simply put, we are all already penalized to do our favourite leisure time thing, but nobody is accountable for the cash cow & the way it is dispersed because we don't have a formal structure for the funds.A License or permit system will ensure a structure that i
  3. Interesting post & sorry to butt in, but could this be another example of Adelaide's Retailers failing to provide the service you guys deserve, AGAIN.What kind of store is going to take $1k & let the product leave the store without line on it, let alone have the owner wondering what the reel is capable of.Poor service & a cash grab at best.Finatic
  4. To add to the pain MJ, the local wholesaler that has been distributing that product for 20 years has just closed, I looked at getting a pallet of it from WA, at around $5k thats OK, but my storage unit is chockas full ready for Xmas, maybe later in the New Year. Finatic
  5. A little off topic in this thread but it seems it has gone to the cows anyway,Yobbo, it seems you have a problem with me driving a WRX, well to add insult, my missus has an Outback (also Subaru), both are Japanese. We looked at Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi (now theres an anchor), all to no avail. Holdens equivalent uses 21 litres/100k, Fords 20 litres/100k both our cars use less than 10 litres/100k. Neither Ford or Holden stop well, ours stop on a dime & to date have not worn the pads to less than 60% after 70,000kms. Neither Ford or Holden handle well, I can only suggest the next offer of a ri
  6. Here, Here Grumpy, but think, the next time you turn up to your local for a bag of cockles to be told in June that there will be none till November (in this case this year December) what will you think of your local? If he stood to his morals & refused to stock import, who's gonna feed his kids for 5 months? Traditionally I've tried to stockpile upwards of 4 pallets to keep my little store in supply thru the off season, wait till the '09 season, I'd expect half that at best. Bring on the Import. Sad as that is, it will be fact as it was this year. The question all of you should be asking i

  8. Sizey, gotta love that jingle don't ya. You wouldn't believe how much work went into making that & the ads for TV.Anyhow, about mid 100's will get you a metal body reel, much better suited to the beach. Save for a few more weeks & buy quality once, not junk twice.Finatic

  11. Well researched Nitrev, if you haven't already clicked the link, please do so, a quality read guaranteed.Let me say wholeheartedly & factuallyMY DIGGER DOES NOT SELL TO THE LIVE EXPORT MARKETS, he supplies the bait industry only (for under $15 a kilo, he too could be getting $40) & without him & a few other smaller guys, quote, YOU WILL BE PAYING $40 plus a kilo.Next time you buy cockles, ask which harvester supplied them, you may well get a surprise.Could even be from 1 of the Larger questionable harvesters that are currently shaping the way of your kids fishing future. In fact it

  15. Well guys, sorry to be the bearer, it is Official. As at a Fisheries meeting with the Cocklers present yesterday, the '09 season Goolwa Pipi Commercial Quota has been set. The coming season has a cap of 600 tonnes only, this is a little over half of last years quota of 1100 tonnes. With that in mind only 636 tonnes were harvested in '07 - '08 in an unusualy tough season.Atop the fact of a limited catch, the Cocklers are having to fund a Management committee to oversee & manage the fishery, this comes at a considerable expense to each Harvester, thus the radical increase in prices in more r
  16. Hot off the press, for those that may doubt my humble findings, Drawn fished with them last week & was blown away by the results. "Hooked with Tackleworld" this Saturday 5pm Fox tv channel 183, check 'em out. Finatic
  17. Yep, I agree, it's a big word AFFORD, personally I can't afford to feed a pokie, I can't afford to visit the TAB, I can't afford to smoke & I can't afford to work a 5 day 40 hour week, but, out of all that, I have worked out 1 thing over my 25 years of working, the harder I work the luckier I get & I guess that's why I can afford a WRX. 18. Good job there big fella, trust my opinion or not, these things brain the Snapper. Japanese technology in design, damn near impossible to miss a hookup or snag up. No need to fish heavy, 15lb braid 40lb leader, this weight is good to about 25 metres, cast far from the boat & slowly skip it back across the bottom, the results if you are anywhere near fish will blow your mind.Nearly every hookup will be on the head, chin, eye socket or gill plate so heavy leader is not needed, more natural presentation will entice any fish. 21. Had heard thru the season that Sydney markets were paying $16-$19 a kilo, don't know what they sell 'em for though. Not hard to work out why the cocklers were selling them there instead of to bait industry is it. Finatic
  22. Thanks Lazylure, they are sweet rods, for my money a bit bland but I'm on the wrong side o' 40, seems the young bucks love 'em. Be quick guys 4 gone already. Also for those that care, ABT comp briefing will be instore this Friday night, 7pm, anybody wanting to meet the Bream guns, both local & interstate, heres your chance, may be easier than at a 6am start or a busy 2pm weigh in over the weekend.May even be some special deals.Finatic
  23. We too have Goolwa's & plenty of em', also imports reluctantly, didn't want to take imports but got sick & tired of clients crying about the price of the local produce & damn near cutting their wrists at the counter. Imports will be here to stay guys as the next season quota is deemed to be slashed. Last season's quota total was 1100 tonnes, less than 700 tonnes were harvested & who only knows how much of that went for food, you bet this years allocation won't be higher than last. You all should questioning which supplier is supplying the food market, they are wholelly responsi
