Kelvin 2,200
Would not recommend this guy. My bro did a 3 day live aboard with him in 2015. Trolled for 3 days for nothing, but one guy in the boat got a hit and landed a 1m barra. The charter operator uses social media well and gets a lot of big barra but fishes very hard for them and his customer service seems to be lacking. http://www.ntnews.com.au/lifestyle/fishing/angry-clients-claim-their-nt-fishing-guide-abused-them-crapped-off-the-front-of-the-boat-and-hit-catfish-on-the-head-with-a-baseball-bat/news-story/b397538fb417d851ee31fb78f1387883 newtontoney and reelfun

Hugo 120
Fresh water side of the barrage on the Mary River is a good one day option. Early start, 2 hour drive, great scenery, barra and saratoga usually on the cards. Lots of operators will take you there and you won't have to share with any randoms as you can book plenty of boats for just 2 people. newtontoney
BarneyB 1,939
Wildman River worth a look too. newtontoney
Wahoo 146
As Hugo said. Corroboree billabong and Shady Camp freshwater side both good day trip options (read leave Darwin around 0400 stop for bacon & egg rolls at Corroboree hotel). Just to whet your appetite this one went 86cm from Shady Camp freshwater in September 2010. Wahoo BarneyB, newtontoney and Hugo
Lanes Hunter 39
Barra can be hit and miss. I have lived in the NT for 7-8 years, Jabiru, Katherine, Darwin @ various times. Fished all the usual spots and some not so usual - got some good fish. Once I went to this billabong down near Bestwick / Barunga - mate worked with the traditional owners, so we could get in - it looked like Barra uber paradise. Well I flicked a lure off these rocks, into where the billabong drained into a fast flowing creek, for like 4 hours. Then my mates girlfriend chucks the most pathetic first cast into the same spot I had been casting into - 10-15m away - and bags like a 1m barra first go. Went out from Timber Creek once, in a roof top tinny, .357 in the tackle box, crocs bloody everywhere - the other 2 guys nailed barra after barra - I got SFA. Good luck! A reef fishing charter will give you a greater % of success. Hand lining Spanish mackerel and big queenies is pretty cool. newtontoney

Barra are a lot like a decent sized mulloway in SA. You can do everything right but still not catch one. I've caught heaps of Barra, but not one legal one yet after 2 years up here. I call barra 'unicorns'. newtontoney
Kelvin 2,200
The Barra are there. My brother lived in Darwin for about a year. He got quite a few legal landbased Barra on lures. It seemed very tide dependant. Hiro is the local guru. He blogs about his trips here http://secretbarramundi.blogspot.com.au/ newtontoney
Lanes Hunter 39
The most reliable barra fishing method I have seen was at Nauiyu Nambiyu (Daly River Community) by a very wise traditional owner, using a secret traditional fishing method. Rod: Brno .22. Bait: Winchester Power Points.
