clay91 3
Gday,Whats a good brand of braid mono & leader? Not really sure what one to buy when Im looking around!cheers
afishyfish 4
You'll probably get a squillion answers to this one Clay You might need to give a bit more info on what use you're planning for what line type mate
MarsOne 137
I personally love nitlon braid and vanish flurocarbon for my light bream stuff and also heavier for salmon and the like.
Softy 2,991
I use this cheap "sambo" brand ebay braid, great stuff and never let me down yet.. and only had a couple of wind knots in about 1.5yrs of using it..And agree with Scotty, i love Vanish fluro also. urhookedfish 12
for my light rod for trout I prefer fireline but for snapper fishing I fish either Nitlon or Fireline braid.for leaders I go for Jinkai 40lb or 60lb.I am yet to by some vanish but when I did try some given to me by people I was fishing with, I must say it seemed to be pretty good stuff. jagger 24
Sunline PE Braid all the way for me. The 10lb is that thin it's almost worth using instead of 6lb. Tried a few now and keep going back to it. Would like to try the orange sunline (rockfish or something) as I have heard this is very abbrasive resistant also.300mtrs for around the $70 mark makes it very comparable, if not better value for money to the ones you pay $30 - $50 per 125yards. 2 Spools easy depending on it's use. Tough as nails and virtually no wind knots. If you are inlucky and get one, they pull through effortlessly.Vanish or Nitlon leader all the way !!Another tip.... learn your knots !!! disturbed1 0
Fireline, Rovex and Suffix braid for me (well its what ive got on a few of my reels anyway)and ive never had a problem with any of them, as for leader... Vanish:)
rangfish 1
If you are after good line have a look at the Sunline range. Its expensive but its good.
Kelvin 2,200
Fireline for general purpose light tackle work. For bream gear I use Sunline castaway. Expensive but handles really well.
clay91 3
oh right, well im thinking about getting a bream rod, and just buying an all rounder rod, as i have my snapper rod atm and yes, dont know any braid knots! haha
Station49 33
It is quite dependant on exactly what your doing and which gear you are using, but i tend to use sunline products for all my lure casting applications. For bream lure casting on a reasonable quality light setup i would use 10lb sunlines super PE.
clay91 3
cheers for the info mate, thinking about buying weavers set up hes got for sale.
Station49 33
Cool, the 10lb Sunline Super PE [0.6] would go a treat on that combo. Comes in at about $30 for the 150m spool depending on where you shop.
Shark_Fisho 1
My faouriteswuld be Suffix Performace, Td sensor, Tuffline and saltiga surf. I was usin 50 pound tuffline and a ray wrapped m around a pylon and it still didnt break. Broke after me pullin the crap out of it lol
Shark_Fisho 1
Black magic tough flurocarbon, surecatch hi tensile, jinkai and the old 10X are all relaible leaders
clay91 3
that flurocarbon leader, whats so good about it? isnt it invisible to fish or something?
Shark_Fisho 1
yea thats it ment to be invisible to fish and bit more abrassive reistance aswel compared to standard mono leader
rooboy123 9
Yeah, fluro is meant to be a lot less visiable underwater. Something to do with light refraction/reflection?? Im no boffin!!!Also is pretty good on abrasion resistance
Shark_Fisho 1
Its ment to absorb light not deflect it something like that
rooboy123 9
Ha ha. Beat me by 3mins shark fisho!!I agree with the leader suggestions in your previous post. They are pretty much what i use for the heavy stuff. Also like a bit of platypus(go Aussie)
Station49 33
Considering we are talking about bream fishing, i think the sugegstions of Jinkai, Surecatch High Tensile, etc are probably a bit innapropriate.Flourocarbon has a light refractive index very close to that of water, making it virtually invisible whilst under water. FC also generally has a higher abrasion resistance as a leader material and has minimal stretch. My favourite would be Sunline V-Hard FC. Nitlon also do a relatively good FC for breaming, etc which is slightly cheaper than the V-Hard.
clay91 3
right i see. now i have lots of options haha. cheers guys
Station49 33
Clay - just remember to try to keep your leader as light as possible dependant on the structure you are fishing. For a simple knot to begin with [and my favourite anyway] try a double uni for your main line to leader connection, and use a loop not for your lure connection. Hope this helps.
