  1. Awesome fishing ,thats a horse .Found it interesting the tackle ,Ugly Stick gold and Fin nor reel probably a 300 dollar combo, that looked to handle the situation more than admirably. If you watch the fishing shows, the twankers that host them would have you believe the only tools for the job are 2 and a half grand Stellas,T Curves,Saltiga setups ect,go figure. Jimbos Sampson goes to show a top fisho with the skills and right presentation can utilise what tackle he has at his disposal to tame any beast out there .
  2. G"day Aquatic research1,I have used the line for redfin ,carp and salmon trout ,and have to say this as my honest assesment. Its very good line, doesnt wind knot, casts well ,fishes nice but.....it doesnt really seem to have any advantages over a good quality braid, not for one second does it have any characteristics of mono, although it is one fibre as opposed to braids several fibres fused together,it behaves just like a braid. Its good for sure, but not revolutionary. Cheers
  3. Nice fish Joe,great pic too, would be very rewarding to tie one, then decieve a wiley bream on it,thats a fine piece of fishing.
  4. Gday NT what akios have you got? Very nice reels.
  5. G"day NT,havent used it personally, but have heard it makes them run quick.
  6. Nice one Keurshie, congrats on your first king.Did you keep it for the table?I caught 2 a few years back in similar circumstances and took them home for a feed. Was'nt keen to be honest, very strong dense flesh I found. Was'nt too bad smoked, but in hindsight would of been better off releasing them . Sportfishing 10 out of 10...eating qualities 3 out of 10.Hers a pic of one I got, same deal on a gar under a float. Cheers
  7. No offence to anyone here but had to have a bit of a laughat this thread.
  8. Work my arse off all week, finally get one day to do anything and its frigging mothers day. A day i have absolutely no interest in, but have to do all the niceties....as far as I'm concerned they invented it as an excuse to stop us guys going fishing. What does a man do to vent his frustration...errr..i put a 50 dollar deposit down on a sabre 540 without HER knowing...ahh thats better ,eases the pain a bit.
  9. Thats pretty bad,but the other story on that page is also pretty wrong on a number of levels http://www.ntnews.com.au/lifestyle/darwin-man-risks-testicle-in-jaws-of-saltwater-crocodile/story-fnk0b1ks-1227336750461
  10. Are Stradics made in Malaysia/China?
  11. Nothing worse than buying a new piece of gear ,all excited and it does"nt meet your expectations. Once bought a Saltiga Surf reel thats drag was sticky ,terrible in fact, had to get specially fitted drag washers to make it decent[not good enough for a reel that price] Another time bought home a new Live Fibre rod, loaded it not even half way to show a mate how nice the action was, and it exploded into 2 pieces, lesson learnt. Always pays with reels to actually get the salesperson to take the one you are actually buying out the box for you,and then thourorghly test it out and make sure you are

    Cranka Crab

Not trying to throw the thread off track, but anyone tried the savage gear crabs?
  13. Got my spool, havent used it yet but a quick rundown on first impressions ......1...6kg looks to me about as thin as 2 kilo braid,2...tested it out in a break test with braid of the same strength...snapped at least the same if not higher,3... bit more wirey than your traditional type braids,3...... knots extremely well with the recommended knots that are illustrated on the packaging, and also the albright with the line doubled [whatever its name is] 4....very sharp feeling, would slice through your finger easy ... Time will tell with long term use ,love the feel of this stuff, in fact everyone
  14. Yeah NT definately advise one if using OH and fast taper rods,a rule of thumb is use 3x the breaking strain of your main line,ie 20lb main line = 60lb shock leader. As for braid, we know braid is way thinner than mono for given breaking strain,50lb/60lb is a pretty good allround for any strength when using it for most breaking strains. Cheers.
  15. Thats normally a sign that something very un nice is abaout to happen.
  16. Not as weird as it may sound regarding lighting/static electricity, there is a guy i know that madly fished when an electrical storm was on,didnt pack up and leave, but when 30 metres of line he had out ,completely lifted out the water and gravitated 6 foot off the surface decided to wind in like hell and get the heck outta there...true story.
  17. Cheers plankton, worked 80 hours last week and thought stuff it ,get what I want..... little gold at the end of the rainbow.
  18. Thanks for all the replies ,have made my mind up and going to pay a bit extra and go for a Daiwa Gen Black "Trauma Centre',will be a bit of an all rounder and I really liked the action and feel of it .
  19. One awesome thing I saw was up near Burra Gorge fishing a big pool for trout ,and there were swallows flying around taking insects off the surface. Was quietly doing my thing having a fish in this middle of nowhere spot. Out of nowhere from behind there was a swoooosh as a big black falcon belted past my shoulder and took one of the swallows clean out of the air right in front of me. The sheer speed and power of it was amazing, was a briiliant thing to see . Out of all the birds it could target,ie galahs, honeyeaters ect.... easy prey, this thing cleaned up probably the fastest, elusive bir
  20. I have some on its way, will report back on what its like,it may be no good,it may be great. Here is some info http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/is-gliss-the-line-of-the-future
  21. Apologise if there has been a thread on this, but this new line coming out of Germany has created big interest in europe, its a single strand line that handles like braid incredibly thin with no stretch, looks like mono, apparently they are only just keeping up with demand. Dont confuse it with that ghastly Nanofil stuff, this is another thing altogether.Interesting. Long term it may turn out to be total garbage, type it in on Google and there is heaps on it,looks interesting.
  22. G"day guys, looking to upgrade my old spin rod for the upcoming Winter trout/reddy expeditions.I like 7 ...7/2 light spin ,Raider or AIRD are around my affordable price range, any pros cons preferences, experiences with either,or any other recomendation? Cheers lads
