  1. Maybe a red mullet or a bullseye
  2. Some bloke called Millsie put me onto that one and .. Yes, it's a killer
  3. That's a nice haul of fish you've caught... looking at the size of the fish it seems as though the average size of the bigger snapper has slowly been reducing year by year. The schools that once turned up at this time of year used to be mainly of 32 pound plus fish.. over the past few years I've fished out there when the big school comes through, the size has been diminishing from 30 pound down to 28 pound.... this year the fish appear to be even smaller. I think catching a 30 pound plus snapper these days is becoming even a rarer occurrence and to anyone lucky enough to pull it off... well
  4. Trouble is down at the ramp is that as soon as a car starts coming down the hill the rissoles take off and come back after the car has gone. Another security camera wouldn't go astray as there is already one facing towards the ramp but one is needed facing across to the carpark
  5. Like clockwork, a couple of big schools of 8 kilo snapper moved into out off Glenelg in early December and moved off about a week ago
  6. Looks like someone's science got this fishery wrong also and toyaly stuffed ithttp://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/fishery-closure-means-gulf-st-vincent-prawns-off-christmas-menu/story-e6frea83-1226536444222
  7. What happened to the good ol days when us men just gave a good firm handshake and made up.. Geez! Now we're expected to give each other a girly hug and a quick cuddle  :S
  8. I was told once by a reputable local tackle store owner that it is illegal to use imported seafood fit for human consumption as bait.. by doing so you'd be creating a disease pathway for the introduction of exotic diseases into Australia's marine and aquaculture resources.I do know that imported bait has to be "Zapped" to kill off all pathogens once it arrives into the Country but not the fish feed for the tuna farms hence the pilchard killoff a few years back.. Not sure about seafood fit for humans. So effectively it is okay for us to eat the dodgey imported seafood but not put it into our w
  9. Probably got pinged for berleying... apparently it's illegal off beaches to use swimmers for shark berley
  10. If you retrieve with the vehicle still hitched to the trailer always switch off your motor as the vibration will make your vehicle and trailer sink further into the sand. Always pullout with the vehicle at an angle and not drive straight out. Ale has the best advice about winching the bow hard into the trailer
  11. I vac pack my whiting whole (uncleaned and not scaled).....enough fish in each pack for one meal as soon as I get home from fishing and freeze them straight away. I've never had a problem with soft fish or tainted from the intestines. I thaw out the vac pack and then fillet and skin the fillets. They're just as if you pulled them straight out of the Eski and prepared them for dinner
  12. Brighton Jetty "Blueline" circa 1937 as opposed to current Google Earth Pic.. considering they chopped some of the length off the original Jetty (from memory about 30 metres) I would say the "Blueline" is in better condition now than 70 odd years agoTheir "Science" doesn't cut it with me
  13. Can their "Science" explain why the majority of local KGW and rugger snapper have been caught inside and along the blue line right along the Metro Coastline.. In the last couple of years the fish seem to be migrating in very shallow water as opposed to out along the deeper seagrass meadows... even reports on this site will confirm this with reports of snapper and whiting taken from our local jetties and not to mention the posts from our regular kayak fishers who seem to do pretty well in the shallows... same for Port Noarlunga Reef... we're still taking good fish from that line of structure.
  14. Guaranteed by two years time those spots that are secret now will be over run with every man and his dog once word gets out. I've seen numerous secret spots along the Metro Coast and out in the Gulf become over run and all in the last couple of years :(Once fishos always remained tight lipped.... but it seems to be the opposite in this day and age of electronic media etc
  15. Yes snapper did frequent the Port River system years ago.. here's a snippet of some of my records from thirty years ago (have used Google Earth to make it a bit clearer snapper in the Barker Inlet opposite the St Kilda ChannelSnapper (at Night) - Usually incoming tides from dusk onwards, sharks and rays can also be hooked. Ground bait with fish heads / frames etc before the tide runs at full force. Snapper spook easily so be quiet and do not shine lights on the waterBait - fresh fillets of fish caught in the local area
  16. They're scared of the Pros..... it's the only place they could find refuge
  17. The sea was fine in the Passage but once we got around past Willoughby the winds were howling across the top of Pennington Bay and Cape Hart in excess of 20 knots. Will have to see what reports come back this weekend Bad luck also missing out, but I guess we can't win all of the time.Passing through the rip at Willoughby was quite hairy and I even gave it a wide berth.. I was glad to get clear of there that's for sure
  18. The wind was up again... we at least managed to get around to Cape Hart but it was too rough to search out wider for tuna. I reckon your best option would be to launch from Victor and search west of there for the tuna. We saw one school but a huge pod of dolphins went crazy and sent them deep
  19. What time you going to be launching Fishie' date=' thinking about doing a trip down south but not sure if to launch at VH' date=' CJ or Wirrina as a plan B. Need a tag along? Initially was thinking Victor but was unsure on the conditions.[/quote'']I won't know TB till we get down south and determine what the weather is doing was hoping on leaving Victor but it could be from the Cape if the wind is blowing hard. Either way I'll be out there between The KI and West Island
  20. I'll hopefully have a report back tomorrow night.. I'm planning to launch from Victor and head west to meet up with the passing schools
