  1. late model 500bc.. i think i have a 650 beach caster model similar.. a gift a couple years ago.so your basically setting up for salmon?? ball sinker and running rigs dont cast as well as a patternoster rig will. but you shouldnt have any dramas cast those weights and rigs on 20-25lb. im still wary of braid at all on an alvey... specially if you get a birds nest!!!
  2. hmm so about a 120" rod.. is it actually set up as an alvey rod? as the reel seat and the eyes WILL be different than that of a spin set rod. are you casting just for distance? ( competition distance casting) or are you actually looking at fishing distance? Line slap is only the angle/twist of your arm..500BC, clutchless?? antireverse? leaders i use are most often the mono coming off my spool! if im using a basic salmon set up im using 20-25lb mono with a 20-25leader.. if there is rough terrain.. i use a heavier leader.. like if im targetting groper from the rocks.. or even fishing with ne
  3. hrmmm ok... a 500b? most of us use a 650C or 651C.what rod are you using?? is it an alvey rod or a spin rod? I prefer 8144s wilson/snyder. but i also have 4120s which cast a mile with a lure.. and 7153s. all of my alvey rods are old school snyder/wilson/butterworths fibre glass single pc. 20lb main mono is fine.. i use 25-35 on my 5x 650/651s. leader is fine as well. Why are you using Braid on a Alvey??? your gonna get some sore fingers guiding that stuff on specially when a large fish is ripping it off you at a high speed.. 28 grams.. 1oz.. most of us fish with 3-5oz sinkers.. so a 1
  4. my point of view, the integrity of the blank is compromised by the plastic?? hand grip.. if the rod was to go straight through and this additional "grip" was a separate attachment to the rod the blanks strength/flex wouldn't be as compromised and there for a bit better...i still wouldn't buy one..
  5. Ranger,i umm... leave again wednesday ;)will have to be a couple months... as next month i get home the misses has booked us into Wirruna resort for a couple nights.. hence my down south charters thread.. :)but it has been far too long between drinks/fishing/chatter..
  6. a great site for learning knots.. http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php
  7. as usual Kon.. you see the potential dangers of these articles.. nice work. and well pointed out! similar issues here with our sharking regulations.. and also currently if you fish the onk with bream gear during the ban. even with out bream in your bucket you can be done for "targetting" them during the ban. similar could be said for snapper??
  8. first or not.. its good to see convictions..

    GoPro Hero 3

with 7 spare batteries.... dismal takes decent hi def video and footage but chewed the batteries fast. mine was pretty well hammered when it finally died... ran over by a tour bus.. chewed on by sea lions smashed int surf boards. smashed in to shark cages.. droped and kicked by back packers constantly. think one of my crew failed to double lock it after changing the batteries.. hence it zapped itself with water..

not a bad pressey! the crew at Calypso will look after you. Andrew/simon on the shark boat with probably Brooke, they have water proof cameras available on the day. and take all the footage from multiple cameras used and place it on a dvd with videos etc. unsure of the cost for regular patrons.. but through our touring company its a freebie at the end of the trip. Swimming with the tuna is also great fun.. make sure you check out the inside netting.. with all the other fish.. not just the outter netting with the tuna! PS even if you dont ever get seasick... its worth taking a pill.. iv
  13. Chasing a Charter down south.. the Misses has got us a couple nights at Wirrina Resort next month.. so im taking a surf board.. the golf clubs.. some fishing gear.. and got a green light to hook up a charter for a day..any suggestions specific to this area??
  14. 10L water bladders from woolies are good.. if you got the freezer room.. solid ice bricks that can be used for drinking if they melt after a few days... depends on how long your trip is. if its just one day trips a bag of ice and a couple of 2l coke bottles frozen should see you through no worries. if its extended days of camping.. SOLID ice is the only choice. and a good quality ICEBOX will see you through. Techni-ice SHEETS are also a usable option if you can have the amount of storage required for them.. ive bought 100 sheets off ebay for a good price.. sometimes i use them if its onl
  15. ive got 8144s and 6120s and 7153s.. and i love them! but as mentioned they are oldschool style rods.. most of mine are alvey based rods. old school muscle!
  16. even if you freeze up a couple of ice cream containers or 2L coke bottles to stick in you esky.. it will help it last a bit longer!
  17. i have a Kookaburra branded green ice box of 92L it lasts for days.. when using block ice i regulary get a week! bagged ice is never good ice.. i also have a cosmos 60 L ice box. lasts a hell of a lot longer than a standard esky!
  18. getting that exact jelly fish in Bairds bay/scaeale at the moment.. never seen it before.. but its harmless to the skin from my experiences. not a good reading though!
  19. also just recieved the new batch of bags from this ebayerhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/160903227226?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649topnotch full textured bags. so now got 8 more rolls of GOOD bags and i still have 6 rolls of bags suitable for bait and other such non desirables. the other rolls are only textured on the edge and i found that they didnt vac and seal EVERY time correctly. so have relegated them to seconds usage.
  20. got the maxkon.. had it for nearly 2 years. happy so far. DEFINITELY comes down to the bags.. make sure the bags are dimpled/textured. flat plastic ones wont vac seal real well in the maxkon. ok for bait. but no good for fresh stuff
  21. ive lost 2 mates to pointers.. and another mate bite marks from a bronzie.. so im pretty close to this issue.. but i still dont support culling them!
  22. yeah i swim with the dolphins/sea lions in SA.. also swim with tuna in SA.. and the pointers ;)but i try not to surf and swim with them... though surfing Le Grande national parkive paddled into bronzies more times than i care to share.. and also another guide snorkelling lucky bay came across a 3-4m white... amazing how you can run up vertical rocks in flippers...
  23. looks like WA is in for a good tourist season.. since i surf/swim in WA waters quite frequently for work.. Twilight bay, Cape Le grande National park, and even get a chance to surf marg river/yallingup area and swim at Meelup beach and Castle rock. this all has quite some interest to me..
