doobie reacted to Meppstas in Two Winters of snow at Sheffield...
Here's a few photos of the 2015 & 2016 Winter snow we had here in Sheffield in July & August.. so far 2017 has given up any snow here but it has snowed just on 10 kms from Sheffield as well as a light layer on Mt.Roland here in Sheffield.. Not sure if we'll get any this year, but with a moth of Winter still to go anything can happen down here in Tassie..

    cheers

Reports around the Port Lincoln area have suggested the KG's have slowed and will be slow for the week coming due to the bloodworm run.

The area around Coffin Bay has Salmon (Gunyah Bch).
Farm Bch is better with KG's in 2-4mtrs of water and also a number of reports from Seal Corner.
The Ledge for KG's & Salmon Trout also.
Inside the Coffin Bay National Pk bay they have been getting Flathead and whiting.

Also, for those that don't have a dehydrator (or oven lol) and the above is wanting you to try it, you can use an electric fan.

just place the marinated strips of meat on a wire rack and point the fan at it all day or overnight.

Just don't have the fan too close or on extra fast speed as you don't want the meat strips to fly up against the wall !!

I did exactly that Doobie. I got a dehydrator from Harris Scarfes when it was on special, it definitely does the job.

Searched around the net for recipes and mixed up my marinade based on those and what I had in the fridge and cupboards. So far so good!

If I manage a 'holy grail' jerky I'll let you know

I've made some jerky before using the oven and was quite nice.

I have considered buying a dehydrator, Harris Scarfes seems to have an ok one and is quite tempting when they put it on special @ $50.

I don't have any 'special' jerky recipe, in fact I don't have any, I just googled it to find something that sounded nice

But when you find the 'holy grail' of jerky recipes, I'll come around and help you eat it

I recently purchased a dehydrator to play around with. I just like making stuff myself, jerky and dried fruit sounded like something interesting to try out.

My first couple of batches of jerky turned out bloody delicious with the approval of my mate who is a regular jerky eater. I've only made a bbq flavoured marinade, then the same with a bit of chili.

Does anyone have a go to recipe or holy grail jerky recipe that they are willing to share?

Thanks guys, yes she's been at me for years to get one but I kept holding off.. kept spending money on new trout rods, reels & lures..

Comes with a carry bag that fits onto my waders belt & I can even fall in the river too because it's fully waterproof..

Pam actually went into BFC and got it, they also gave her $30 off as well..

That 2004-2005 Trout Season Report next to the PLB has 22 pages to it and it's one that I have finally finished writing up from my hand written diaries..

still four more seasons to write up before I reach to where I started off with a computer...

    cheers
    Adrian

With the trout season opening only a couple of weeks away I had a nice surprise this morning when Pam walked in and gave me a package that she had picked up at BCF..

Having lower severe back problems and suffering with angina Pam went bought me a GME personal locator beacon. I have been thinking of getting one for quite some time mainly because I always fish the rivers on my own. This one also has GPS which will put me a 5 meter radius of being found which is better than a 5 kilometer range.

So I registered it this morning and it's all go from now.. Let's hope I don't have to use it..

    cheers

doobie reacted to bjorn2fish in Alvey Reels Australia closing down!
I just read the news that Alvey Reels Australia is closing down.

This is from the Alvey Reels Australia Facebook page...

To our wonderful customers over many, many years. It is with great sadness I have to announce that Alvey Reels Australia will be closing down.
Our manufacturing facility at Carole Park has served us well since 1978 but sales of our reels are now so low they can not generate the income required to keep the business going.
Our loyal and skilled staff have kept the quality of our products very high and we are proud of this reputation as being the toughest reel on the market.
So I would like to sincerely thank all our staff, many who are very long term employees for their support even now during this very sad time as we wind the business down.
We still have substantial stocks to be distributed to retailers and we will endeavour to support warranties and spare parts for our products as long as we can.
Thank you again for your support as an Alvey user, it is you that has kept us in business for the past 97 years.
    Kindest Regards,
    Bruce Alvey

Well, I'm not a trout fisherman, but looking at the photos (of the many that you have put up) it just shows that how relaxing it can be.

The sitting on the banks waiting for that little tap on the rod tip, sitting amongst the trees and bush, watching the water flow by, are all the way life should be
