  1. Hi chuckembackStill trying to work out what sort of fish is in your picture IMG_6253.jpg in one of your previous posts (caught at Gunyah Beach). You seem to think it isn't a mullet, but as near as I can tell, it seems to be a Sea (or Bully) Mullet [Mugil cephalus].http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/375937/Sea-Mullet.pdfIf it is, them I'm surprised it went for a lure - although very little is impossible in the world of fishing! Cheersaf

  7. This mob are advertising in this month's "On The Road" magazine:https://www.freshield.com.au/shop/index.php?cPath=6They're at the "less cheap" end of the spectrum, but I guess you generally get what you pay for. They tend to do the rounds of the caravan & camping shows, etc. I think you'll find that they will probably be at this year's Adelaide Boating & Fishing Show if you want to see one of their systems in action. Also, Sunbeam have a range (available at most larger department and electrical stores) that are a little less expensive:http://www.sunbeam.com.au/Pages/Browse/Search.aspx?ci

  9. Although this is a US article, it is good summary of methods of despatching and handling fish in general (not just carp):http://www.lsu.edu/seagrantfish/pdfs/factsheets/handling_offshorecatch.pdfCheersaf
  10. I got one of these via phone order:http://www.strikebacktackle.com.au/store/listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=36Cheersaf
  11. The old mantra...."YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"
  12. Thought I'd throw this out as a topic for discussion, as I personally know a few people who happily catch fish, but (a) can't be bothered to eat them, or ( find the idea of actually eating a fish repugnant. This probably opens up a much wider topic of what actually motivates people to fish - but I'm just curious to get a feel for a rough percentage of anglers out there who aren't fish eaters.I'll nail my colours to the mast here - I LOVE fish and seafood in general.Cheersaf
  13. The most hilarious part of this article in the 'Tiser today was the accompanying photo of the dude (sorry John Jackson at Goolwa Beach, if you prefer to not be referred to as a "dude"!) standing there with net in hand when there's currently a BAN on taking pipis at Goolwa Beach.Another fine journalistic moment proudly brought to you by those wonderful people at "The Advertiser". Cheersaf
  14. This doesn't give the answer you require, but does have a few contacts which may(?) be able to point you in the right direction:http://www.flindersports.com.au/pdf/WallarooPortRules.pdfGiven that we're talking bureaucracies here, I don't hold out much hope of you getting a quick or easy definitive reply, but good luck anyway... Cheersaf

  16. Got it! (I think )I'm reasonably sure it's a Crested Oyster Goby (Cryptocentroides gobiodes)- see link below:http://australianmuseum.net.au/Crested-Oyster-Goby-Cryptocentroides-gobioides-Ogilby-1886(Be sure to view the pictures full size.)If this is what it is, then it's certainly a little way out of its usual range! (Still, there's a bloody Sun Fish down at the Port, so nothing surprises me...all sorts of weird s*it happening lately  .)Cheersaf
  17. Something my dear departed old man taught me many years ago...Thinly slice some white onions and alternately layer the shark (either fillets or cutlets) on a plate or tray with the sliced onion and cover (Gladwrap is a good option). Pop it all into the refrigerator for a couple of hours, then remove. Discard the onion and use the shark in your preferred recipe. Don't know why or how it works, but the flesh comes out as "sweet as".Cheersaf

  23. Update from Cockle Land...Rang PIRSA Head Office on 08 8347 6107 late in the afternoon enquiring about said device - lo and behold, 1 Cockle Measuring Device arrived in my Post Box next morning (good work, PIRSA!).Also decided to get a "Cockle Holding Device" (waterproof and able to dispose of sand easily).Tried "Admerch" at 9 Grove Avenue, Marleston and came up with this little low-tech baby at $18.70 (inc. GST):Of course, I had to try it all, so I went down to Goolwa today and drove along the beach towards the mouth. Water looked far too dirty for me (given what's coming down the Murray at t
