  1. I agree with superthahn... I'm not gonna tell you not to use undersizefish but for the good of all of us don't shout it from the roof tops. I suspect we already have enough problems on the horizon, don't give us any more. The laws say that you must release any undersized fish as quickly as possible, not keep it in a live bait tank, handle it again then slip a hook in it and let it swim around stressed out for an hour or so.
  2. My grandfather used to swear by cuttlefish that were dead and floating. Everytime he saw seagulls on the water he'd point the boat in that direction and go have a look. Must say we did seem to catch alot of whiting and snapper.
  3. definatly go for something long enough to clear the bow. especially if your using light gear as you need to be very patient when you get a fish yakside.
  4. Yeah I know the feeling, spooling up alveys can be an expensive excercise. I've never used braid on an alvey as i am always worried about the way the line slaps against the back of my hand when I cast and laying it back on the spool, even sometimes 20lb line starts to burn the fingers laying it back on, and don't want a cat'o'nine tails effect on the back of my hand.
  5. 450m on an alvey? Must be using about 80lb! My 650c's hold 750m of 15lb and 600 of 25. But yes i'll agree it is a pain in the arse. Doesn't seem quite so bad when a mulloway has taken all ya line off though, somehow then it seems easy.
  6. I've had success with plastics at night and although I have no evidence to support this I'd say they would be better on a full moon, but then again isn't all fishing? It would have to be better with more light though.
  7. Any otehr time I would say that was poor ranger but given recent events karma point for you (not that you need it)!
  8. I have a pair of hornes to and while they haven't had a great deal of use they are still completely waterproof after almost 10 years. I don't use them much because most of the time using waders freaks me out. You see guys using them down salt creek and places like that wading out into the swell you just wanna go and slap them. If its too cold to wear boardies and i need to get wet normally just go for the wetsuit. At least I'm confident in swimming in that. Down salt creek you'd be sucked along the beach quicker than I think anyone could swim.
  9. I've never had a problem with any of the locals on the water or landbased. Only got told to move on by the coucil guy in a boat once but on that occasion he was less than pleasant to deal with. In fact he was down right rude. I didn't know I couldn't fish there and there were no signs I noticed (did see one after it was pointed out half hidden in a bush).
  10. could you guys put some photo's up? I mean I doubt they would be stupid enough to take it out locally any way but then again I can't see why people are stupid enough to take a boat?
  11. I thought it was the black bream that were more lure shy. Staying with my uncle in noosa they seemed to very readily take a lure. Maybe I was just there at the right time.
  12. I seem to have a bit of a knack of fluking big flatties. My biggest though was a 72cm one off the port hughes jetty, In a crab net! Thought it was a light coloured doggy when it was coming up!
  13. I have heaps of japanese bosses at work, hence a few spare translators With nothing better to do (except looking hot in tight pants). If you send me the reel and the manual I should be able to get it translated and send the manual back. Just wondering what species I'd be able to catch with my new reel? Does it come with braid or mono? What is the line capacity?
  14. I had a heaps good sunrise out my back window this mornin but My batteries were flat must remember to charge them.
  15. I think you definatly have to cook them quick, don't worry about them been raw as they cook very quick and doesn't matter if they are raw anyway. slicing them thin also makes them not tough.
  16. To cook just put in a really hot pan with some herbs of choice and squeeze some lemon over it. Just make sure you don't cook it too long. As for preparing it... yeah well just don't ask me to do it! bloody fiddly things, I end up wasting too much.
  17. My old man had some of those occy's and they were dynamite on salmon. Used to rig one on the top dropper of a paternoster rig for snapper too. Didn't catch heaps of snapper on them though. Mainly small ones too.
  18. sounds interesting... don't think it'll replace the kayak in my repertoir but i think it'll have some uses. no idea where you would get one though... sorry
  19. I think by this site he means strike hook. Are you talking about spearfishing? I think most people just use an inner tube with a bucket inside it. If your not talking about spearfishing just disregard this answer. If you are I don't think you will be able to see far enough in the murray.
  20. have caught 2kg salmon off the cliffs at pondie. couldn't lift them up though as we were only fishing for tommies!
  21. I got that feeling too... but I'd just like to say I have never had a bream that tastes anywhere near good out of the port river, or just about any estuary around S.A. If you are lucky enough to get one from the surf they are great eating. But that doesn't happen too often.
  22. My guess would be ring 82075400
  23. Its a good thing the hatchet is buried because if I remember correctly peeli went to great efforts a little while ago to release a big cod. Or maybe it was someone else. How many lure fisho's out there kill everything they catch? so surely someone that uses setlines (legally and by the sounds of it responsibly) and goes to great lengths at times to release some big cod can be a friend of ours.
  24. Agreed its not a small boat, and not the biggest prime mover, but I think its still a bit overkill.
