    Wimmera Pics

Top pics! first photo reminds me of toolondo a few years back! Apparantly toolondo is getting back to its old glory days now its full off water again with trout now reaching 3 pounds in the old scale. I think i'll be heading overnext year oct/nov time, already salivating.
  4. Date of the new moon is the the most important factor concerning these slimy fish food morsals so i wouldbe checking when the new moon is out next year in the months of june, july, & august. Of course the blood worms will still run a few nights after the new moon & gradually taper off, stop for a while till the next new moon. if you see the full spectacle of this the outer harbour area of the port river when the run hits its peakthere balls of these breeding bloodworms up to 2 metres in diameter a few years back a couple of mates & myself went out late one night dabbing & after
  5. "The mind boggles doesn't itWhy the hell are the Gov allowing this thing into Australian waters, It really makes a mockery of all the reasoning behind marine parksI am speechless" purnong wrote.exactly what i was thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. most if not all tourno anglers when in a comp would be concentrating on the point winning species, by catch for the most part is released as empty eskys in the boat would be frowned upon & take up valuable roomthe live wells would be resevered for the point winners as you would not want them running out of oxygenated water!
  7. I'm a current member. havent had much time to get down there lately, hopefully this will change soon.
  8. having serviced many many reels over to many years i have found the best method is a spray bottle ( one of the sort with the trigger handle on it) full of fresh water, spray the reel with this then use a wet clean cloth & wipe over the reel, let dry out of the sun. Then comes the labourios task of oiling the reel spray can oil are ok for an emergency but reel oil from a droplet style bottle is a much better way to lubricate.level winds on baitcasters tend to be the most negleted these need a drop of oil notice on drop of oil on the spiral bar & cover before & after each trip.I als
  9. when i fished the tunkallia reefs down south a few years back during the summer months they were bait stealers a bit of nuisence really. might be a spot they gather at that time of year?
  10. Just tried to order some more fisheries regulation booklets from PIRSA for Gotone & was informed because public consultation starts next month (march)to change bag limits etc etc we will only be able to get a handful of booklets.so be prepared for more changes in the up coming months & you can bet we (recreational anglers)will be the hardest hit again!
  11. most fish will take a fly, i have up to this point caught 23 species on the fly includng gar, tommies, mullet, snook, rock cod, 100's of bream, school mulloway, heaps of salmon so on & so on. i recommend you start out with a brand name starters kit something like a jarvis walker blackridge 6weight combo retail around $130 mark see if you like it or not.another alternative is to get tuition. I do teach fly casting & have in the past done a bit of guiding so if you wish to go down that path let me know.to answer your weight question this is the how much the line weighs in grains (not gra
  12. could you be more specific as to species you likely to target as fly fishing is as wide & varied as any other fishing method.as an example my faviote species i like to catch on the fly is the humble old bream & when i target these in the onka i genaraly use a 6 weight fly rod matching reel with at least a 100metre of backing behind a 6 wff (weight forward floating) flyline with a 9' flouro tapered leader with one of my custom made flys tied on the end.when i get the chance to chase salmon or snook from my boat out on the briny depending on conditions i will fish with an 8 or 9 weight w
  13. many many moons ago when i used 650 alveys the largest stripper guide i would fit on my own custom built 12" alvey rods was the 50mm ceramics did the job for me.
  14. which penn sports rod? if its the 10 foot o/h rod cast of 60+ should be obtainable if it one of the boat rods the distance would be about right!
  15. we also have nil stock, our rep told me they would have new stock early to mid feb
  16. respool with 5lb POWER PRO.much better braid, dont worry about swivels tie your leader 6-8 lb with a 5 turn surgeons knot should all work alot better.
  17. I work in one of those "local shops" & object to the reference of customers not being helped!!!!!!I'm a fly fisherman & advise can be sort from me in my working hours.YES we have cheaper combo's because most people like to start out that way as sometimes budgets are limited these combos will catch you fish, persistance & practice will make you a better fly fisher as with all aspects fishing & from there you can up grade if you need.Anyhow stay tuned I have been thinking about holding some "FREE" flyfishing tuition in the near future for strikehookers.Just need to get a venue. o
  18. I've caught a couple of yfw on fly in the onka as a by catch when fishing for bream on fly. if anybody requires small flies to target smaller species like st's, yfw, mullet etc i have made a few up & sell them at GOTONE stmary's these flies have now accounted for 12 species in this state i call them deeper dans basically my variation of the crazy charlie pattern on size 8 mustard s/s 34007 hook & hand sharpened.just a side note we also have some blackridge fly combo's now in stock & for the beginner fly fisher are ideal.cheers. Joe.
  19. I have been using power pro now for two years 5 & 8 lb for my breaming escapades however i find now with casting the bream lures the first couple of casts the line will stick to its self on the spool of the reel but thats all i find fault with it.
  20. I use the range of strike pro vibes a lot in deep water applications so far have caught snapper, school mulloway, kg whiting, salmon trout & stacks of quality bream on them. In freshwater have caught trout & redfin as well.i take the split ring of the top & tie a quality snap owner or decoy to the fluro leader this gives me the choice to change lure quickly if a treble gets damaged or to try another colour or size if required.Another reason i use a snap rather than a knot is it eliminates the chance of a sharp edge in the hole cutting thru the leader when you have a good fish on.
  21. according to my sources 1st of july on the new moon
  22. they are bloody idiots (council)those mangroves have proberbly been there for 20 years or more they are very slow growing if anything they would enhance the the river. if you want to do anything about a shrub or tree on council land that is interfering with your property they will not let you touch it, i wonder if they sought any advise before chopping those mangroves down.I wont be informing them of any future sightings of mangroves or the like, this has really pissed me off you try & do the right thing to get protection for this sort of thing & some knobhead with nothing better to do
  23. i reported these mangroves to about 3 govt depts as well as the local council about 10years ago & no one was really interested, one of the fisheries people i spoke to said the seeds proberably drifted into the onka & some of them found the right conditions to grow & as it was not a significant growth of mangroves they had no interest in them.
  24. i think they would be more around 120 to 130mm length i would only be throwing them on 15lb braid & leader.
