  1. Hi guys,Haven't been online for ages but thought I would share a personal triumph of mine and believe it or not caught this bad boy from my own tub which makes it so much more meaningful. Caught down the south east about a month ago after a long fishing drought due to building a house and losing my job amongst other things. Bled weight was 108kg caught on a billmark skirt in Lumo. Outfit was okuma makaira 80w on custom status deluxe game rod. Also released one of similar size aswell which we didnt get any pics of as we were only 2 up and put the fishes health 1st for the release. Also special
  2. I have been buying the food grade bulk boxed pillies for years. Works out to be far cheaper than blocks. Also the bulk boxes of Californian squid too, same again, far more economical. Also the chicken pellets as previously mentioned.
  3. Hi Nikhum, Got my eye on the new 3500 for sure bud, got a mint 3500 game with matching rod but also have a 62s that I need a reel for so may grab one .Cheers
  4. Thanks mate, as you know Steve does great work.I think storm boy is correct on the guides.I did fit a silicon tip when it got a refurbish.
  5. Hi guys, looks like you guys got it covered tackle wise. Water is warming nicely at. Makaira is supposed to tuff as nails apparently too.cheers
  6. As far as the braids I am using mate,I have 30lb saltiga surf braid on the smaller calcutta and on my 700 calcutta I have been using 80lb power pro for heavy slugs and heavy bait fishing with 8ft shock leaders for a bit of stretch in the cast. Both have been serviceable, cheers
  7. Hi guys.a bit off topic but wasn't sure how to message pictures.newtontony wanted to see sum pics of a old snyderglas I had refurbished. One of the pics has a old penn sports 5120 with a shrink grip that I use as a spare rod.you will notice how the 4120 snyder is thicker in the butt section.must of been extended and shortened slightly because slightly thicker in the tip than the 5120.purchased from sports off the shelf in the mid 80s, haha.hope this helps you bud . Cheers mate
  8. Hi bud. I currently run a light overhead sensor surf and run a 200b Calcutta. Run a thin 30lb braid.also have a 400b too which I haven't used yet. The 200b has been flogged. Good fun on big west coast salmon.cheers
  9. love my old 13ft heavy spins plankton,I had a heavy saltiga surf ballistic,it was way to heavy in the tip for me so I sold it. Not saying it wasn't any good but just way to heavy for my style of fishing in the tip. Like the tips to load up a tad when chasing mullies myself. cheers
  10. Definitely go the shorter rod option mate. Far better for fighting fish.
  11. I like my Daiwa reels but at the end of the day the newer models will all require new magseal oil at some stage especially after heavy use.Have also heard it is a major job just taking a new one apart. Apparently the side plates screws are a special type and require a special holding jig as the screws are really tight and not designed for guys like us to service them.I haven't tried as I have a new model 5000 but a certified reel repair guy has told me about this.Just another way to get more money off us unfortunately by the sounds.
  12. so they should be for the price, big bucks for the new Expedition models but sounds like they are a quality item that's for sure!
  13. Hi bud, I got an old original 5120 snyder in overhead. Purchased originally over 20 years ago when the shop was full of custom builds. My blank has been sanded and not your typical broomstick tip either. Reason I bought this stick was due to being tippy enough to fish for big salmon or mullies. Very close to a sabre 540 kind of stick in my opinion.I remember going through the all the customs when purchased and all the others were nothing like this particular one. Tippy but tuff as nails. I never really knew what it was until recently it got refurbished by status rods, wouldn't part with it
  14. have to agree with you nanman, still got my 6500 extreme and will never part with it.Also recently sold my new gen 4000 saltiga which had done no work whatsoever although couldn't fault it.Will never part with my 3500 saltiga game either, built like mac trucks the older models, cheers
  15. nice work guys!! Good fun for sure, done a few trips with Ryan myself, top bloke and skipper.great footage too. cheers
  16. Cheers guys, we spent 5 days there and no where enough time but just tried to take it all in as best we could. Spanish macks, queenies, spangled emperor, red emperor, longtail tuna, shark mackeral, cobia,gt's,big golden trevally aswell. Even teased up a little black marlin on the last day too but was spooked by some killer whales , hahaha. Good thing about Exmouth is everything eats lures. We also spooked a school of bonefish on the flats too which was pretty cool.here's a pic of one of my big golden trevally, caught this on a plastic, cheers
  17. Hi guys, an old thread thread but I did manage some Gt's last year in Exmouth, not as big as nanman's but was stoked with my first attempt. Lost the biggest one on the last day unfortunately. Love the diversity of that place, can catch just about anything over there, have to get back, haha, cheers
  18. fun topic guys, a real crack up,haha, most of my good mates are dirty wogs, haha. as for starting out on the jetties thats where i started my heavy tackle fishing and its a real eye opener for some when a young fisherman can cast a overhead game outfit further than the guy next to him using a spin reel, haha, cheers
  19. another tip bud is if travelling with long rods is have butts facing forwards the front in case you hit something or as previously said tie down tip possibly if you cannot face the butts forward
  20. Hi totes, all the rods you have mentioned are fairly solid mate. Best bet would be try them all with the reel on and see what feels most comfortable and balanced. Also got my hiramasa for sale at the moment in the for sale section of this site if your budget allows, rated to 210 grams but will jig 250grams easily. Probably a cut above the rods you have previously mentioned too in my opinion, goodluck bud, cheers
  21. I may be interested in having a look at it Cal if u can tee it up,haha, cheers
  22. hi waspy, you can get by with the ganged hooks for the pillies mate but if you are going to use bigger baits like squid heads, slab baits etc you may get better service from gamakatsu, big red types of hooks that are stronger generally and chemically sharpened.I personally use these in the sizes up to 5/0,6/0, 7/0 or thereabouts.you can usually catch multiple fish on these hooks too, they seem to take the wear and tear quite well.some may say the 7/0 are too big but i have found them ok,handy for throwing out bigger baits, hope this helps you bud, cheers
  23. Hi bud,Several years ago I broke the tip off a much loved saltiga 68s and thought the rod was ruined. All we done was make sure the spacings were even and put a end guide on and would you believe the rod is better than it was before the damage. These rods are quite soft and if anything it made the rod better than before from the tipping, haha. Goodluck with it,it may become your new favourite, cheers
  24. great fish knackers and well done on your 1st king bud! Seen some absolute monsters come out of fowlers over the years, great place to wet a line for sure, cheers
