  1. Gen Blacks are good rods. Should be a perfect medium duty plastics set up for you matched with the 3000.

15-20lb leaders will be fine with the guides, you will just have to try either FG knots or not winding the knot past the first guide.

  2.

I personally use a double unit but gave also dabbled with the FG.

I'd also suggest your leader is simply too long. I've been fishing artificials almost exclusively (and very successfully) for the last 10 years and my personal opinion on leader length is 5-6 foot, some people will tell you otherwise, but I've never had a problem on the light gear.

  3. I've caught a lot of bigger bream on the 75s and they cross over nicely as a lure for schoolies. If your looking to fill out a box though it would be a good idea to get a couple in each size.

Natural colours for clean water, gold/silver or solid colours for dirty water.

  4. My boat plastics set up is a Certate 2510r-pe currently on a Samaki Zing 7ft 8-15lb, currently spooled up with 15lb super PE>

Beautiful set up for coorong [and anywhere else] mullies with plenty of grunt. I also have a heavier rod i have done some work with when there's a bit more structure and i need to turf em out quickly.

No idea when it comes to live baiting, but i dont think you'd have any issues using the same gear.

There is a bloke selling a certate 2500 in the classifieds at the moment.

  5. yeah not a big fan of that guy, 'Winga' i think it is.... he's interesting on facebook as well. people have brought things like that up gently & easily with him and get a barrage of abuse from the bloke.

lets face it though, MOST, not all, of the fishing shows on ch44 are that low budget and quality that they are barely worth watching.

  6. Size 1 tournament jigs are made with 'fine wire' hooks... so realistically they are designed for bream and trout fishing. This is your problem straight up. Size 1 is probably also a bit small for queenfish and golden trevally anyway.I'd upgrade to 2/0 for a start, and try out the TT headlocks jigs, they are pretty tough. Have had no issues with snapper and mulloway in a range of sizes of jigheads from the range. Another option in the TT range would be the "extremem HEad hunter" jigheads which are made with tougher hooks. eg 2/0XH as the size code.the headhunter jigs are better value for money also IMO.

  7. Legal size bream is about 9 years old on average versus legal salmon trout being about 14-16 months according to what ive seen on the net.Just something to consider when ramming a couple of hooks through its back. Not one of the over the top cranks non this but seems a bit harsh when a fish has made it that far.

  8. Cheers Archerfish, ill try ringing a couple of places from that site. Was curious as to whether anyone had actually seen them out there. I have got an "ultra" branded one, which i like but am specifically looking for a bright pink one.... with the ultra brand and these watersnake i like the fact that there is nothing hanging off the back of them? I looked at the marlin ones at B C F and there is quite a large bit hanging behind your neck on them.BarneyB have you seen them there recently? I was out at R&A a couple of months ago and there range of PFDs sucked. Might have to give them a call and ask today.

  9. Have been using the first without the snap lock. I guess just a barrel swivel tying my braid to leader. then just a rapala knot for my lures. I have only started using lures as have been a bait fisho only for 40yrs. So im curious. Does this mean that people are using snap locks to attach lures to leaders?

Hi Damo' date='Try tying your main line direct to your leader using a double uni knot rather than using a swivel. A swivel may not be a huge issue, but it puts a little bit of weight in that section of the line and will slightly effect the action [depending on which species you are targeting this may not be the end of the world, ie salmon wont care, however bream may be spooked'].You can still tie directly to your lure using this method if you want, however a small lure clip [try for a decent quality brand; ie decoy or owner] just makes it easier to swap between lures and also means you may not have to retie leaders as often because its not going to be getting shorter as the day progresses. If you do use a lure slip i reccomend taking the split rings off of your lures tow point.
  10. decoy round snaps on the small stuff [bream, trout, redfin, whiting, squid]decoy egg snaps on the heavier stuffreason: they have a good breaking strain to size thing going on, they weigh next to nothing in the small sizes, they dont effect the action of the lures in my experience [unlike some others i have used], they're easy to clip and unclip to change over lures, they're relatively cheap compared to some on the market.all for hard body lure fishing, SPs get tied on directly to leader

  11. Cheap lures generally don't swim well or have issues with terminals. I wouldnt reccomend it. Some of the 'cheaper' lures that still fish extremely well include the strike pro range and berkley 3b range. If your wanting to fish lures but keep it as cheap as possible then maybe soft plastics would be more the go. But even then... the cheap and nasty ones don't swim nearly as well as the brand names; ie squidgy, berkley, etc.Over time fishing lures you tend to lose less and less. Skills evolve and even just reading a situation and using the right type of lure helps.Only interested in buying them from the shops? Other forums; ie breammaster see a huge turnover in quality gear by some blokes. New or as new $20+ lures often go for the 5-10 mark.
