  1. Hooked on fish for sure, wish I could find old episodes of it. As far as I know Steve can't get access to the old footage as it was owned by ACE TV at the time.My old man was mates with Steve and we went on a couple of trips with him, I think I was in one of the episodes at browns beach - only a kid at the time. One of the bosses at work used to be a camera man for him as well in the early days.He had some great footage, port augusta kingfish and thresher hookups, giant kings smashing trevally at rapid bay, mullies in the port, massive trevs from the 7 mile at victor, far west coast action etc.
  2. Bloody nice sized tuna, you'd be happy with that from the shelf never mind in 3 ft or water ! Well done!
  3. There has been atlanic salmon caught at fowlers bay as well as giant herring.Fish has fins !http://www.marinews.com/travel/travel-articles/exploring-the-deep-reefs/478/
  4. I've recaptured a tagged jewie in the port, anyone who thinks tagging doesn't work has rocks in their head!
  5. The lead up to a dodge is an excellent time to fish, allows you to fish for longer in areas where the water rips through. Some fish are more active with less flow (ie: Mullies and Large snapper).Excellent snapper fishing on the dodge on deep drops, I have a few spots up my sleave and like to give them a crack during the slow tides - can normally pay off.
  6. Plenty around in the usual spots and the pros are having a good time. Season seems on par.Out wide around ardrossan I've noticed a lot more ruggers (legal sized) but that could just be co-incedence.
  7. Bread flies work well, basically just some cotton tied onto a hook, once in the water it slowly sinks like a chunk of bread.I've also had luck on small red tag type flies. In the torrens during summer you can sight cast into any carp stuck in shallow pools. The henley beach road bridge used to be great when the river flowed through there after rains, the carp would sit in the current sucking up food which made great fun for sight casting to.If you want to cheat you can berley up with bread, once you see the carp sucking the bread off the water just cast towards those lips!
  8. When the schools were around earlier in the year big fish came off the barges a lot, along with similar spots like clarries etc.We didn't bother fishing early mornings and got our biggest fish in the middle of the day - just under 14kg. Most around 11kg though.Just on where to launch, I fish the port a bit and sometimes if the weather is good I will launch at west beach and drive up. Takes about 25 min on a nice day and saves the hassle of towing through traffic Also allows you to collect some bait on the way if you feel like it.
  9. The harder they are the better it is when you get one.Snapper can be fun at times but after a few big fish it gets old quick.Mullies - can shit you to tears but when you get a decent one you forget it all.Kings, well after 150+ hours with a livey in the water and no fish landed I'm not sure but I think it will be good
  10. Saltist 30T standard speed would be the go.You can fit easy 300m of 50lb braid + wind on for kings, you don't want a lot of line out on a big king anyway. Trust me I've learned the hard way :angry:For snaps you don't need a heavy duty setup, I've used the above for shits and giggles on big snaps and it was a bit too easy but useable.
  11. Biggest snap caught on my boat, caught by my mate after he dropped about 4 fish. I was so jealous my head fell off for the pic. 13.75kg. caught south this summer.Biggest I've caught myself, 13.5kg. caught north last winter. Didn't shave that day so had a few scales on the scone.
  12. Taken from the port last year, I was pretty happy and look a bit like gary busey. :silly: Bridle rigged salmon trout did the job, great hookup in the corner of the mouth. This one was released, the trip previous I got another one around 10kg.
  13. Fishie, ever heard of a wreck named "Binda" ?
  14. I always get better results with berley but sometimes its probably not needed.I fish a couple of pro grounds off ardrossan and theres no need for berley as the fish are schooled up against big structure.

    Clarries?

Best I've pulled from there is 9kg, very hit and miss spot.Had a crack the other night, very slow not even any ruggers. About 6 boats right on top of the wreck all catching nothing.
  16. Bag with a brick or just fish the slack tides.
  17. I'd got the charter special or if you want to spend a little extra for a slightly more refined reel the tekota.I use the small 500 model this for snapper and its smooth as and more than capable for bigger reds.If you run braid or some of the low diametre lines you get plenty on the spool. For kings I would save up a bit and get a dedicated outfit, I use tld 20 and penn sports and its a nice rig for the money I paid.
  18. I picked up a rovex big boss 7500 and spooled this up with 50lb rovex viros braid (300m fits easy + backing + big wind on)I matched this up to a berkley dropshot 12-24kg jig rod and its not a bad cheap combo. For snapper you could go a lighter rod.I use it as a second rod for throwing poppers or dead baits for kings. No kings on it yet but have pulled up some monster smoothies at PA on it under near locked drag - plenty of power. The only down side about the rovex was the knob on the handle bent while fighting a big ray. Quick email to them and they sent out an improved replacement handle for f

I havent fished the river for larger mulloway too seriously since I live the other side of town. The past few weeks I have been trying quite a lot and on my third or so serious attempt I got a hookup only to to have the fish do laps of the structure on me. Was a reasonable one too, good head shakes and took a good couple of runs. I paniced a bit and it won the battle. The fish are there as ST said above - bait in the water helps a lot.

Outlet pipes bower rd, outgoing tide they open up into the port(I think)Fish livies or large lures, cd18 etc with a very slow retrieve.Full moon can be productive so I'm told. Not my experience but was told to me by someone, I've seen the pictures to prove it good fish 20-30lb.Like anything you need to put in serious hours.
  21. Spots aren't hard to find in that area, the whole area is full of reef.Out the front of the cliffs at seaford is reefy, same with moana beach and christies around 10-15m of water is fine.Don't be too particular about finding a certain "lump" etc just look for some rough broken bottom with bit of life showing on the sounder. Berley up at the top of the tide, and keep it going during the runout tide to make a nice trail.Fish unweighted or if the tide is ripping just enough to keep your bait down, running sinker rig. Pillies, sauries or my favourite whole gar for bait. You won't get many huge fish
  22. I agree with Fred.We have tried a few different ideas and found the old bucket with a lid to be the best at keeping squid kicking.I have a plumbed live bait tank that I use to put my squid in initially and for travelling between spots. Once I'm setup I transfer the spares into a bucket and hang it over the side.Another tip is to drill the holes around the top 1/3 of the bucket so if you have to pull the bucket out of the water quickly (ie: you get a run) your squid won't run out of water and die.
  23. Ages ago we caught one snapper fishing, as you do.It latched onto the vynil seat on the boat and we could not remove it easily without killing it.Since we had killed one we thought it would be fair to at least try and eat it. It was very hard to skin.We wrapped the body in foil with some lemon etc and threw it on some hot coals. The result didn't have too bad of a flavour, almost like crab but the texture was pretty horrible - very crumbly and needless to say not worth taking another.
  24. Would love a texy but couldn't stretch at the time.It is a very different feeling rod than the penn, much lighter with a fast action.Got the 6kg model use it with a tekota 500.
  25. Lumb S35 08.059 E138 26.439 Sound around in a 50 radius and you will come across the noarlunga tyre reef (tyre modules on the bottom) and the seawolf wreck.Very big structure on the bottom - covered in leatheries but may hold snapper from time to time.Anchor well back from wreck as its rock solid and in 20m of water an easy way to lose an anchor.
