  1. Recfish SA and SAFWAA have just got agreement in principle to open this dam for recreational fishing provisionally on the pending 3 month consultation with local residents. The position is very positive at the moment tho' the issue of stocking with Natives is still being resolved.Redfin, Carp, Tench, Callop are some of the known residents, however this dam suffers regular winter blackwater events which decimates stocks?
  2. Would the clouds still have a silver lining if they banned fishing for redfin perch between the hours of 5am and 9pm? Must confess your comment raised a little giggle from this dyed in the wool reddy addict but it would be very difficult to compare shark fishing with redfin fishing at any level and as far as I know (and please don't quote me?) there has never been a single human redfin attack fatality anywhere in the World :clap:As an aside, it is a scientific fact that redfin actually sleep at night so a ban would be totally un-neccesary between the hours of 9pm and 5am  :whis
  3. Behind every cloud is a Silver lining Let's all list some positives?1/,,,, Restrictions do not apply between 9pm and 5am which is when sharkers normally operate?2/....Hook sizes have been increased by length and width.3/.... Wire can now be used with size limitations and ganged hooks with nylon between them.4/.... SHARK FISHING ON THE METRO COASTLINE HAS NOT BEEN TOTALLY BANNED
  4. What's your theory Alex? I know you are fairly local there
  5. Had a summer holiday in a friends shack there a few years ago and I snorkelled the ribbon weed line for an hour or so directly out from the Jetty and was amazed to not even see a gar, squid, tommy, whiting, etc in the crystal clear water

  7. Gotta love bottley squid as well as pillies. They are smelly, relatively tough to cast out and the crabs don't nibble them off in 30 seconds
  8. Point taken Jo tho' I'm not far off the mark as me and mate Matty waded up that way from Sugars and slammed them just as hard with Blades and small bar spoons just before dusk when they switched off!Just as many birds about as well?
  9. Tinny last weekend got us into double header ST's to @28cms on ANYTHING! A redfin Blade did the best just jigged up and down. Venison saw double headers and bungums caught as well Just outside of the Mundoo channel saw the pro casting his net and absolutely hundreds of Cormorants, pelicans and terns going nuts
  10. I remember that case really well, the guy had his face plastered all over the paper with some two tonne monster Great White hanging from a gimble on a dock from memory. The story was that as the pics were taken and a large crowd of interested spectators were gathered around, a bit of baby seal fell out of the Sharks jaws   :ohmy:I think the guy was severely punished but don't remember the penalty
  11. It is entirely legal to use these meat items, but for HOOK bait only Lots of interesting chat on S&H about the misconceptions surrounding this fact as PIRSA do not allow meat and chicken or other animal based meats for burleying or in crab nets.I have always used meats for all my fishing in boats or in the surf, chicken breast is outstanding in tiny cubes for mullet, garfish, flathead, whiting, bigger pieces for bream. Yesterday, (10.8.13)I fished the Coorong in my mates tinny and caught double header ST's on waste bits of fatty venison taken from a hunted Deer, although ANY red or white
  12. I and all other thinking people fully understand your concerns Rotare, however, what yakattack did not make clear to the Forum readers is that he is a Member of the newly reformed Metro Recreational Fishing Committee (Metro RFC) and that he and his team have an enormous amount of horsepower behind them to drive issues like the retention of Port Stanvac Jetty IF and ONLY IF, there is sufficient support from rec fishers to gain leverage with the Politicians, who eventually will make the final decision? To gain over a 1000 facebook likes and to iron out a lot of concerns via the two main Fishing F
  13. They're selling complete starter fly fishing kits, line, rod and reel for @90 bucks at Beach Road tackle shop, was in there today (13/7/2013).And yes, you can fish a team of wet flies attached to a bubble float half filled with water to give it a long cast. This method was so effective in the UK that some waters have banned it  If you still have an interest in getting into this fascinating branch of fishing strikehook has a whole Board on fly fishing full of great pics and advice?Cheers, tonyb
  14. No, no-one has to pay to go on a metro jetty in SA. But I'm sure the cost to maintain the jettys are worn by those that live within that council. So are the residents of the Onkaparinga council happy to see their rates increase to cover the ongoing maintenance of the jetty? Perhaps rate payers would prefer to see some other Onkaparinga council projects slated to make room for this jetty project and it's ongoing maintenance?I guess it all comes down to what "we" can afford, and whether it's considered necessary or just a "nice" thing to have......Thanks for your carefully worded and well tho
  15. Burnouts are every bit as much vandalism as other anti-Community acts in my opinion. The Police impound cars and expiate people who do this just the same as they do for the vandals who break into cars, no distinction IMO and zero tolerance at all levels :angry:I owned a Boat and launched at Sully's for more than 11 years without a single incident tho this may have been my beat up old sigma and rusty trailer for my 1976 bellboy Barracuda.I shudder to think of a 40 grand Boating outfit with a speccy new car getting damaged  Council gets my vote for being pro-active and I have seen many ca
  16. Can't count the number of night sessions I've had down there for tommies for bait and the hoons have been doing burnouts  I was particularly pleased to see one of them with a full car load getting captured by a SAPOL Patrol recently :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  17. Cheers Booma, could be a good starting point
  18. Hi guys,I'm desperately keen to catch up with an Elly, preferably Adelaide Metro if possible or any points South as far as Goolwa?Any hints on the four "T's"; Tackle, Times, Tides and Tactics would be awesome and I'm not asking for your secret locations, a general area would be fine as I've got time to burn to catch my first ever Elly due to being retired ;)Luv to get a PM from anyone able to help? Cheers, tonyb.
  19. I note with extreme interest the amount of anglers, who for reasons totally unknown to them and also to me, have assumed an almost mythical status for this Mobil Jetty as a massive fish hang out and an iconic feeding spot for native fish including Snapper! This seems to be almost entirely founded on the basis that no-one has had access to whatever fish are in there, so, there must be masses of them as in the "grass is always greener on the other side" Think of the States Reservoirs which have been a mouth wateringly enticing carrot of masses of hungry big fish of all species just waiting to ju
  20. I've had a fair bit of input with this issue as I have been lobbied by my local polly Amanda Rishworth and have had verbal input on her blog site and must confess that I have plumped very heavily on the yes side, more especially because there is a very strong argument that the millions of dollars that Mobil will need to demolish this huge Jetty could be put into a fund to make this jetty a tourist, rec fishing, scuba diving, dog walking, environmental education tool etc. rather than the dismaying option of it being demolished and lost forever to all South Australians!!Talk of a cafe/kiosk, she
  21. Donovan's Landing for outsize Mullet on big chunks of chicken on size one hooks.Plenty of Schoolies on the same bait for a bit of fun
