  1. A bit of muesli bar worked for me on a bream once I ran out of bait down the Onk. Also a mate landed an undersized sweep on a starburst lolly.
  2. Well deserved winners in my book. Great to see such good quality reports and fish at a time when the forum sort of hibernates through the winter.
  3. Awesome work there guys, a live aboard charter is a distant future dream for me!
  4. Adelaide Strikers Flatcap Ale, need to get one of the new SH caps Bjorn......
  5. Lovely afternoon out there Alex. Keen for the next time down there chasing bigger mullies Good footage too, my bream didn't really need to be there ahahahaha. I think your intro needs an immediate change to include your second mully
  6. No way Moggy, I even dropped my own mulloway to net his fish hahahaha
  7. It was an awesome afternoon man. Absolute thrill to almost get a double hookup (sadly I dropped it) but also for you to land that great mully on your budget gear In the right place at the right time. Means that now you cracked the code, it gets easier and a few more mullies will come your way.
  8. Camouflage coloured Moggy so I can sneak up on fish. I need all the help I can get, trying to keep quiet is the main problem hahaha Unfortunately for poops, my kayak is a one seater. I mean I know he's a bit on the small side but he might fit inside one of the storage hatches
  9. And here is the finished product at home, ready to go out tomorrow.
  10. Hi all, Over the weekend I purchased a small sounder unit for my kayak and installed it with the help of fellow member Jimbojames. I have had my kayak for two years but decided to add a bit of gear so I bought a Lowrance Elite 4X sounder. The plan was to install it and then try to produce an informative report of how to install your own sounder to your yak if anyone is interested. So my kayak is a Scorpio Terrapin with specs 270cm length, 79cm width and weight of 20kg. It is very stable and helps me to get out on the waters of the Onk and Coorong, etc. Firstly, always plan before you
  11. 4th in the first post and 2nd in the second post are my favourites But they all look really good mate, hopefully some others will actually get a fish in them too. Also managed to sneak in an appearance in the last photo of the first post
  12. For your heavier surf combo, you could have a Penn spinfisher combo from RA. Very solid reel and good length rod.http://www.rayannes.com.au/daiwa-shimano-reels-australia/rod-reel-combos/surf-combos-spin-overhead/penn-spinfisher-950-0r-850ssm-spinfisher-ssm-12ft-surf-rod-119-free-line/For the lighter combo, I personally use the Shimano Sonic Pro V2 902 with a 4000 size reel. The rod is perfect for throwing metal lures at salmon in the surf and graphite so very responsive. The reel can be any sort of decent quality and filled with 15lb line and you are set.http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/prod
  13. I went snorkelling there Wednesday and saw schools of sweep and salmon trout underwater. Also a school of mullet came through the shallows.Saw a few squid early in the day cruising around halfway down the jetty but no-one was fishing at the time.Would expect there to be salmon trout, mullet, tommy ruff, etc now. Rain may make the water clarity diminish and squid might be hard to catch.
  14. I thought I'd revive this thread with something I can across during my hunt online for a bream rod.http://www.motackle.com.au/destroyer-lyacon-competition.html
  15. Seems like the Daiwa Generation Blacks are a very reputable rod with lots of members having one or more. Looks like I'll be shopping around through the sponsors to find one to hold before I buy. I think the Itchy Twitchy is the one for me with 1.5-3kg just about perfect for me to target bream, trout, yellowfin, etc on lures.
  16. Cheers guys,Think I'm starting to narrow it down to a few possible rods. Samaki C-12 702SXL, Daiwa Gen Black Itchy twitchy 6101LFS, etc. But will continue to hunt around for other models. Still open to other opinions
  17. Thanks for the input Ale and 4THA,I have seen those Gomuku rods for micro-jigging, not my scene but they look pretty rad. Did have a quick squizz at those Daiwa Gen blacks Ale, not bad rods for the price. Itchy Twitchy looks within my required specs, 1.5-3kg. 4THA, why one piece rods? Is there much of a difference between one and two piece rods in terms of performance?
  18. Alright fellow S&Hers,I am in the market for a new bream rod as I unfortunately broke the tip off my Mexican Raider the other night. It was a 1-4kg, two piece rod that I used for everything from tommies and gar, up to school mulloway and ruggers on plastics. Primarily it was used for throwing lures and used in my kayak as well as landbased. My budget is around $200 and I have a sourced a few rods but not sure on which one to choose.- Ecooda Crank Shaft EC-S702UL- Samaki Allure SA-662SXL- Samaki C-12 702SXL- Daiwa Air Edge 692LS- Shimano Jungle Stix JS662LSPAll these rods are between $100-2
  19. Rays Outdoors and BCF have a Shimano combo of a Solstace reel with a Catana rod for $99 which is a great budget setup. My first combo that I bought was similar to this with the Catana rod and it has lasted me four years so far. Also BCF have a Shimano Sienna and Sonic pro combo for $69 which is a very good budget combo. The Siennas are great little reels with 4 ball bearings and are smooth to use.Other than that have a look at some Ugly stick combos that are in catalogues.
  20. Z-man grubs 2.5 inch Motor Oil for bream, Estuary Perch, tommies, Salmon trout, flathead, gar etc. Squidgy flickbaits 80mm Pillie for snook, salmon, mulloway, snapper, etc.Gulp! Jerkshads 5inch in Lime Tiger or BBQ Chicken for mulloway, snapper, salmon etc. These are the lures that have given me the most success.
  21. Yeah mate, natural colours and styles are a positive but don't discount a few 'out there' lures. For soft plastics I prefer squidgy lobbies, wrigglers, Zman grubs; as I've had success on them previously. There are plenty of other plastics that work. For hardbodies I use the high end lures such as Bassday, DUO, Luckycraft, Ecogear, etc.
  22. A kayak can get you into all the little nooks and crannies of those tidal creeks, a good thing. For bream I use 4lb fluorocarbon leader either tied straight to a size 2-2/0 hook depending on bait size, or a lure such as a plastic, vibe or hardbody. I favour baits like prawns and fresh bloodworms but don't discount gents either. In regards to lures, mixing up retrieves is a good idea. Can be slow rolled, slow and twitched, fast burn, etc. lots of variety until you find success. The bigger bream are not big because they're silly; they're very wise so it pays to make sure everything looks natural
  23. I went out to Tennyson this afternoon after chasing bream in West Lakes. Tried my first attempt at poppering for yfw. I used the Zerek Popparazzi first and then the bassday sugapen second. Had no hits in 90 minutes but didn't really have a clear idea of what technique to use. Mixed up the speeds a fair bit but didn't see any schools when I waded.
  24. I've caught one gar on a hardbody and had some follow surface lures before. But SP's might be hard to replicate a lifelike bait, it would be weightless so it floats or slowly sinks. Those berkley maggots might just do the trick on a small jighead.
  25. I am in the same boat as 4THA. I have tried numerous times and had no success, even using worms as bait. Might have to head out tomorrow and search. But, I think you are on the right track there Alex. I have seen people landing YFW on surface walkers such as those Berkley ones, the Bassday Sugapen , Atomic K9 pup or Walker, Bushy's Stiffy popper and Zerek Popparazzi.
