G'day I think much of the area you are talking about would fall in to the marine park no take zone for that area. Here's a pic, to the right is another no take zone with the yellow bit indicating shore fishing is allowed. This doesn't apply to the rapid head zone Cheers Rod

G'day As Kelvin said it's all about where you fish. I fish deep water, heavy sinkers, often drifting, various fish turn up including gummies and schoolies, then there's the snags. Loosing quite a few heavy sinkers can really add to the days costs. This all adds up to 50lb braid and 60 - 80 fluro or wire. If you drifting out sinker free baits in shallow water you could go a lot less. Mind you that day about 12 years ago, I caught some over 50cm whiting, the biggest 56cm, then an even bigger one, obviously best ever, right at the side of the boat it did a big head shake and bang went the

G'day I recently set about tying leaders on with this knot after watching the various videos but when it came down to it I thought of an easier way (for me anyway). On my tackle table I have a small vice and wrapped and clamped the braid from the rod in the vice, tightened the line with the reel to put a bend in the rod and then used the method where you wrap the mono around the braid, pulling on it as you go forms the knot and keeps it all really tight. Very quick as well and very easy on the fingers Cheers Rod

G'day Nice looking efforts guys. I'm also fairly new to smoking, only bought a hark gas smoker last year. After smoking a couple of batches of tuna I came across a couple of problems doing the largeish tuna steaks. First getting the fish up to safe eating/storage temperature and second some parts becoming very dry (still ok and good for some uses) Then a flash of inspiration. As I was already vacuum packing the smoked tuna I could use the sous vide method (in hot water at a set temp for a set time) to finish off the tuna. G'day Nice pics and nice fish twinpower. We went out about 5 or 6 times and hit the tuna twice, first time, 3 x 8kg, second time 12, 14, 18 and 20kg x 2. Oops, sorry about the spelling error in your name Bjorn. I occasionally use gmc mulcher that have solely for that purpose, but it I do feel I have to do reasonably large quantities to make the effort worthwhile so something in between could be the go Cheers Rod

G'day I haven't made burley much in recent years but when I do, I save up the left over fish guts or in the past I have liaised with a fish shop and got them to fill an esky with fish frames. Then leave it in the esky to partially thaw, put it through the mulcher and generally in to 2l ice cream containers, but have sometimes used plastic drink containers for small ones to fit in a 90mm pvc burley tube. Then into vacuum sealer bags (but not vacuumed), I use some plastic garden mesh for a burley cage and if I think the burley is going to dissipate to quickly I leave it in the plastic and j

G'dayI bought a gmc garden mulcher for burley chopping, I think it is more suited to this than as a garden mulcher LOLI liaised with local fish shops for offal, have an axe on hand for any large heads, I used flower pots with freezer bags in, blocks come out well due to tapered shape.It all worked ok but in the end I went back to just buying burley blocks.
