  1. Back in the early 70's I caught a huge bream under the Torrens Island bridge on a live mullet intended for mulloway, its tail was sticking out of a twenty litre white bucket and at a guess it might have gone 50+ (but I didn't measure it). When I first saw it I thought it was a snapper, but definitely a big black bream on closer inspection. It swam away to fight another day after a few minutes reviving boat side, and I have never seen one as big since. If one was caught over 55, it would have been impressive, not something that you would just toss on the bank, especially now when fish like that

  7. This probably doesnt count as I never actually landed it!, but my most memorable fight was with a huge smoothy off the little jetty at Port Julia. I fought it on a jarvis walker snapper rod (solid glass) and a large tatler reel from the UK with 50lb mono (schnieder) which lasted for 6 hrs. I hooked it at 6pm and the never saw it until about 11pm, I knew it was big as it felt like it was just patrolling its beat for the first few hours, like it wasnt even hooked, so I uped the anty and gave it some stick , which just made it mad and it took off for Adelaide. It ran for twenty minutes , strippin
  8. Looks like Australia has become the victim of brain drain, all our best brains have gone overseas, and this is the mob we are now left with, just barely passed desk nerds that cant get a real job. Its bad enough having a mob of half wits running this country and they are getting advice from OUR scientists. LOL
  9. @ Ugly4Life, I agree, decimating the stocks when the ban comes off is a huge problem, one that the government have created because the commercials cant fish for a month, the same as us (although we still have limits). They want to make up for the loss of a months income in a short time and still be able to get that months income as well. What they dont seem to be able to work out is that they dont earn as much because they flood the market and get $3 a kilo, so then they have to catch more! Quadrupling the effort and the catch only returns about twenty to twenty five percent for that effort ?
  10. Snapper in decline, then its about time they set sustainable yearly quotas for commercials and proffessionals, instead of limiting recreationals further. Recreationals have been dealt with pretty harshly in the overall scheme of things, bag limits, boat limits, and now pssession limits as well as bans etc, and even MPs and NTZs, maybe they should consider these types of limits on the commercial sector before its too late. I dont mind sharing the blame, but I'm sick and tired of being the only one targetted for limits, they take from us (recreationals) and then the commercials just increase the
  11. I dont know if, and cant say for sure either way whether this person broke the rules or not, but I am aware that many recreational anglers have tried to report recreational fishers for doing the wrong things, taken photos etc, only to be told that it wont stand up in court. They were also told they wouldnt use said photos etc as they have to catch them in the act. Now unless this person admitted to the charges as stated, or was caught in the act by PIRSA, how was he charged with said offence, as the case against him is hear say and private photo evidence. I believe that this was trial by media
  12. Just keep doing what your doing and try a few different things, such as knife-jigging or live smallish squid. Sooner or later you will crack what works best on any given day. Good luck with that and look forward to hearing about your efforts.regards snapdragin
  13. Lime & chilly blue morwong, it aint queen of the sea for nothing. My mouth is watering just writing this now.cheers snapdragin
  14. Maybe she should start encouraging hand feeding of those peaceful GWs by those conservationists, hand feeding them GWs, I mean those fluffy sea kittens. Lets see if any jump in with a fluffy sea kitten when they are hungry and excited by fresh fish LOL.I notice that she never acted on that feeling of I'm not going to bite you, more like a mis-understanding.
  15. Dipping in the water earths the rod and discharges the voltage accumulated in the rod, an old fisherman once told me he used to fish regular in very unfriendly weather so used to dangle an earth lead from the boat into the water just in case of a strike. He attached it to the base of his ariel at the highest point of the boat, much like a lightning rod. I'm not so sure that I would like to try it, but hes still here (87yrs old) and still fishing!regards snapdragin
