Blake 9
I've always known them as strongfish. Never eaten them as they seem to smell pretty bad and I can't imagine they'd taste a whole lot better! I've caught a few fishing the bottom of Yorkes- on 6 pound whiting gear they were a lot of fun. To rub it in he sent a picture of the big fish he had caught and let me me know what a great time he was having. I replied that he would have an even greater time if he lifted his game and caught a decent fish, even a tommy would be better. Now I was out there another time with him and we caught half a doz fish that he reckoned were strongys but they had a higher body more like a bream shape and stunk to high heaven. This latest fish he reckons is a strongy as well. Now I grew up in lincoln and we would see strongys ( I think they were also called butterfish)swimming around the pylons of the wharf and out at seal corner. They had a longer body shape more like a mulloway but if I remember correctly I think they were lighter coloured than the one pictured. I never caught one on a line or seen anyone else catch one either but divers would spear them.

And Big Al, the ones down at Seal Corner get HUGE! ive got a shack at Kellidie bay. and have dived the corner and the ledge areas often. you will also see them with a nice blue colour. Blue Morwongs as opposed to the Duskys. ive seen them at over 4' long down there.

BigAl 0
Del, a shack at kellidie well done. Stayed in one there a few times. It belonged to a mates girlfiend but most weekends we would camp at Seal Corner and fish the weekend away. This was back in the 70's before I moved to Adelaide in '78.You are right about the size of the strongys there they were huge. Some big snapper and trevally there as well at different times of the year.
