  1. Yes theres much conflicting info,an old adage my dad taught me is this....dont know lots of knots and be OK at tying them, just learn a couple of knots and tie them well. The main two being the locked blood knot and uni knot, and for droppers the figure of 8 loop and the blood / dropper, all knots that once learned well ,you can be that familiar with them and competent ,you can tie them on the beach in a howling gale, using the moonlight whatever. Another interesting knot that is easy and wont let you down is this one,san diego jam, easy and strong. http://www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery
  2. For 249 $ those look good, but the saratoga at a fraction of that price would do everything that rod would do and be tougher into the bargain. Cheers
  3. The Alvey wading bag is the best on the market imo .
  4. I"ll have a look at these Kuerschie, do they in gold colour?I like the idea of the z mans how the material floats,as they stand up off the bottom at rest.
  5. Losing a rod reminds me of something that happened back in the late 70s when I was a kid on Grange jetty. My brother somehow lost his rod and reel over the edge,my Dad was and my brother were devastated,a young guy came over and asked what the prob was,and after telling him he said 'no probs",took off his shirt ,dived in [which just on dark was pretty game] and swam down out of sight. Ten or so minutes later he comes walking back down the jetty dripping wet, with my brothers prized rod and reel, what a good samaratin, wanted no reward nothing just was glad to help. Being an Alvey reel my br
  6. May be going off tangent here, but what excactly does pe mean, what are the measurements and what is the ratio of pe/poundage,kilos,ie what equivalent would for example pe 0.6 be in kilos/pounds?
  7. G"day dylbaa,I have in the past had similar probs with various rods,an easy fix is wrap electrical tape around the reel foot until you get a snug fit ,doesnt take much ,a few wraps at most normally suffices.Works a treat.
  8. G"day Bjorn,I use to chase mullies in the Port on lures hard for about 2 years, fishing the tides , it was a lot of hard work, was no point just rocking up and expecting to catch. You had to spend time on the water sometimes til 2 or 3 in the morning, on a work day if thats when the tide was favourable, also being in touch with the bait schools, schools of frogmouth pilchards to be excact,if you had the bait congregating in a certain spot on a certain stage of the tide that put you in with a way better chance. Sometimes frustratingly the bait would be there and also the fish but they wouldnt
  9. My greatest misgiving about one of those would be sitting 2k offshore and a dirty great 5metre whitte coming up and deciding it wants to use it as a teething ring.
  10. There is a spot on lower YP where my Dad and I use to catch decent sized ones just on dark. One of the sweetest fish on the plate, absolutely beautiful with delicate white meat, like flathead in flavour but the lightness of whiting, magnificent they are. A pile of fillets lightly crumbed and chips with side salad ,there would be none better imo.
  11. They look excellent mate ,nice work. A thing I do with those plastic squid is you get polystyrene balls from craft, cheap shops like spotlight[2$ for about 20] poke a hole in them and insert them into the head of those plastic squid. Thread line through and tie on a hook, they make the best surf poppers ,heaps better than the ones you buy as they are more durable and you can put on a quality hook of your choice. Cheers
  12. Interesting ,they definately do and will hang around Anglers when they are actively fishing. I was up near Swan Reach once and there was a bunch of drunken yobbos camped a few hundred metres from us,there was a group of pelicans out in the river,I heard a gunshot, all the pelicans flew off except 1. The scumbags thought it was funny to fill one full of lead, there was no way i was going to confront them, being dosed up with booze and armed, and was out of mobile reception. There is a bad element out there that make the rest of us look bad.
  13. Unwatchable that guy is....just unwatchable, cant stomach anything about him. I"d rather watch a total gym or stone dine cookware presentation in a comatoze state on one of those commercial ad channels than that Winga or whatever he calls himself.
  14. I reckon it may be a case of them being touchy, in relevance weve all had times when YFW are picky, tommies ,bream you name it have been picky and you really have to fish for them, and by that i mean read how they are feeding at the bait. Cant see why big Kingies would be no different, they may of been a bit off the bite, just mouthing it running a bit then spitting it,Mullies do it as do Snapper when they are in a finicky mood. Maybe downsizing the trace and using a smaller hook would of made a difference? Then giving them some free line. Not personally over experienced in fishing for mega
  15. This massive kingfish was caught by a commercial boat, a quote from one of the crew' "were calling it 60kg plus,we got one 51 kg and this is way bigger".

    Fish ID

Use to catch those silverbellys occasionally off some southern YP beaches. Interestingly also have seen my dad catch several mulloway that were stuffed full of them, when their stomach contents were examined. .
  17. I really enjoyed that Softy, great vid mate.
  18. 1..Coarse beef mince stiffened up with semolina and a sprinkling of curry powder,a tip with this is make it up the day before and leave it in the fridge UNCOVERED overnight, this dries it out and stiffens it up even more. 2..Finely Diced kangaroo meat, you get it from the refrigerated pet food section of supermarkets, get it out its packaging and also sprinkle a good dose of curry powder over it. These fine pieces hold well on a small hook and are excellent. 3...The no 1 bait for mullet is seaweed worms, they go nuts for them,if you can obtain them its well worth the effort. Any of these b
  19. Great reel NT,excellent casting reel,I think the pro rockets are actually slightly tweaked especially for that purpose. cheers
  20. G"day Alex,a good starting point is the northern breakwall, and fish in fairly close to the rocks,my brother got a nice legal there once and i have caught a schoolie there plus seen 2 others caught, but yeah not too far out as the fish hunt along the structure. If you use lightly weighted whitebait other species around there are ST,Bream and some nice Snook at times. cheers
  21. Yes Matty ,Spot ON at Salisbury had or have one. Its the supergraph heavy surf . Feels very nice. Cheers
  22. G"day mate ,Mo tackle have a clearout on a quality line of rods the Supergraph range for 161....excact same as Snyder [wilson and snyder the same blanks] the supergraph series is a graphite composite version, slightly stiffer but at the same time lighter to hold. The supergraph heavy is the one that suits your needs. Cheers link http://www.motackle.com.au/supergraph-surf-3104080.html
  23. G"day Nt...they are excactly the same, just made in different factory.Pacific /exel composites, wison, snyder, kilwell ect all use the same mandrel and make up a blank that is 7 wraps of fibreglass 144 inches long.A 7144 is a 7144,an analogy would be 5 different companies making vegemite using excact same ingredients but each one calling it a different name...but the stuff in the jars is identical.Cheers
  24. They also made a 540L,maybe it could be one?
