  1. when i'm on my own I just use a 'green bag' shopping bag pinched in one hand with a big enough opening to put my other hand in and crawl around on my hands and knees digging and stuffing them in the bag. bucket up from the wash to tip them in when the bag gets heavy/full.working in teams works well too, i dig and throw the cockles and sand in front of me while my cockling buddy sorts through them as they get washed back towards me. you might miss a few but its pretty efficient. one person digs, the other picks them up
  2. my guess would be Gary Flackcould always ask...http://www.sarfac.com/public/?p=9
  3. Yeah I was reading this earlier today. If you read things like this page http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/recboatingfacilities it makes it sound like the levy money is put in some special fund that can't be touched other than for facilities....What do you think has happened with the money? (in bold below) :)Relevant legislation relating to the Facilities Levy Fund:Harbors and Navigation Regulations 2009 Harbors and Navigation Act 1993
  4. previously it was permanently on-leash by-law, you can read all about it in this council minutes if you so wish, essentially everyone in the community exercises their dogs off leash and thought the 'on-leash' by-law was unreasonable and outdated as they have 'effective control' of their dogs, so supported the off-leash policy to be brought in. (not the other way around )https://www.alexandrina.sa.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/Council_Minutes_18th_January_2010.pdflong story short... YES you can have your dog on the beach and within the mentioned times (10am-6pm) you are required to have your d

  6. Guy on the left is definitely the guy on the adelaidenow pic (look at his shorts, plus yellow line on overhead). The adelaidenow pic is on a different angle, looks to be taken on a phone (bit blurry) and my guess from standing height. Like by a passer-by...Picture was put on facebook yesterday. No exif data to confirm date taken etc.No mention of location on the facebook page. This pic was the profile pic of someone who is a member here, he's not responding on facebook, but I've directed him here if he wants to share any info etc.
  7. little bit small but... (I erased the faces, pixelated anyway).I was obviously focused on the shark and not the shirtless guys... coz there's three of them in the picture lol and its not as dark as I remember. But there it is, from facebook (nothing you upload is ever truely gone). So no, the lighting was not fudged.
  8. "Adelaide Land Based Sharkers" or I think it was "SA land based fishing" had a very similar looking shark posted up on their facebook page just days ago (but with a bunch of guys sporting dredlocks posing with the shark, pretty sure at least one is a member here) but it has since been taken down. The picture was a lot darker ;)My guess is same shark, could be wrong (probably am, don't recall a shirtless tattooed guy in the pic).ALBS care to comment further?
  9. The only shark fishing related shark attacks would be the fishers getting bitten by their capture
  10. I'm pretty sure I saw this on facebook a couple of days ago but can't find it now...Love it how adelaidenow link to the mako pictures for the 'Gallery' on that story. shark showing lots of teeth, good for the scaremongering.
  11. I was having a poke around on the BOM site and came across this gem.Boating Weather Series - Wind Waves Weather - South AustraliaIt appears to be a free book that was published back in 1998 that goes into detail about understanding local weather patterns etc. interesting read.we all rely so much on online weather forecasts now, I bet hardly anyone knows how to read a synoptic chart
  12. buy most stuff from the local guys. rods, reels, tackle, bait.pickup the odd deal on here from you guys :)but I'm not beyond going to bcf if the price is right or its convenient, mostly buy boat bits from there.
  13. ah they soon come back, they might look a little different, but still the same old fish.I picked this trick up from an old friend of mine, he's an undertaker, but thats another story :)I swear by it, give it a crack.
  14. I have a secret ingredient in my mullet mix, half a can of Red Bull
  15. Would be interesting to see graphs of just the number of trips in each condition as well as fish caught to see some correlations between number of trips and fish caught . Like the high pressure I bet there are more trips In these conditions as generally a high brings little wind therefore more outings.
  16. Jack, TrueCrypt encrypt a whole drive if you want, easy peasy.Des, create a Google Drive or DropBox account, upload spreadsheet there and share the link.I don't think I go fishing enough for a log to be of any use but I've always been interested in the idea.
  17. nah its definitely a gummy shark, I didn't see any teeth.
  18. you can spear anywhere south of the onkaparinga mouth, except 2nd valley and I think rapid bay? its outlined in the above link anyway.I've gone spearing around the rocky area just south of the mouth at noarlunga, and further down at moana but all I've managed to spear was a squid and some yellowfin whiting :DDid see a mulloway down at moana which was pretty cool.as for being safe... well, you are in the water, with dead fish... it comes with risk.
  19. 2:05 of this video shows how to clean leatheries, pretty easy stuff.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4qLiJ3XMWQ
  20. you wave the fish scrap bag around in the wave wash, when the water receeds you will see the worms heads sticking out because they cause a V shape in the receeding water. you then walk up to the V, place your cockle/squid bait near it, wait for the worm to latch on, then TRY to grab it ...I've only ever caught one of these tricky bastards.watch the technique at the start of the above video, then watch from about 1:10 onward. he washes the bag around in the receeding water, walks up to the V, uses his bait (the worm actually bites it and latches on), then the magic bit... actually grabs the lit
  21. heard it was someone named Mark?, he got blown clean out of the boat apparently. door to the cabin blown right off the hinges, all windows gone etc. boat was on fire and wheeled out of the shed to be extinguished.
  22. Lights in the water? Jetties have been doing this for decades
  23. just don't go too far down the beach...
  24. I've had success pumping nippers inside the o'sullies boat ramp around the inside beach where the three steel pillars are, don't know if they are still there. There are other spots on southern beaches but it will take a little looking ;)Search Youtube for "sand shrimp" or "ghost shrimp". try to put back the ones in berry (carrying eggs).Never had much luck pumping worms (end up with half worms) and never seen any on southern beaches anyway... doesn't mean they are not around. There are different types of worms of course and different methods for catching them, I don't think a pump fits into th
