Softy reacted to SurfcaztR in 1-3 kilo rod
When on a kayak the rod needs to be long enough so that if the fish takes a run around the yak the line at the rod tip can pass around the yak and not get caught up.Usually 7' for most 7'6" is only a bit longer so it won't matter.A 1-3 or 2-4kg rod either will work as your not casting from shore trying to reach something far away as with a yak you just drift over.Sometimes a 1-3 or 2-4kg rod can feel the same depending on who makes it,always best to get hands on before buying.

I broke the tip off my Savage rod, idiocy on my part, I dont want to talk about it
So shopping for a 1-3 or there abouts. Very tempted by the Samaki zing extreme 7'6 v2 but is new and a lot of coin. The Arrowz are on special again but no SUL model local, and I'm really keen to try a longer rod...which I might regret on the yak.

Permits are definitely required, we were stopped at a police checkpoint alongside the fruit fly quarantine at Oodla Wirra today where an officer ran the permit numbers through the SAPOL computer.

Coffin Bay and the surrounds are worth a stop in.

If you haven’t tried a rubber filleting mat. Just get one. All theses year I’ve been chasing fish around slippery filleting tables... never realising there was a better way
Just having a fish stay still and even offer a bit of resistance against the knife was an eye opener

Softy reacted to Meppstas in My PB wild brown trout for 2020/21 season so far..
I've been meaning to put this on the site for some time, forgot all about it..
Not for the want of trying I finally caught and released a decent size wild brown trout for a change. Even better was the fact it was my personal best of the season so far. Still hoping to break the one kilo mark & better before the season ends on the last Sunday closest to the end of April 2021. The larger three rivers (Meander, Mersey & Leven) I fish do hold a few trout well over the kilo size, it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
cheers
Adrian

Yeah you wouldn’t want to get your snapper caught in one of those clamps😉

Bugger that suck mate. Never done any returns at Tackleworld but the guys are pretty good down there.
I got some 6lb J-Braid x8 grand on my reel this morning, damn it's thin i wont be trying leaders on without my glasses.

How did you get on with Tackleworld? Interestingly I thought they might have checked it over before you took it. Regards, HBt.
As an aside have a new 2-4kg rod on its way. Will be a new challenge as it is 9'6" in length so looking forward to what it might do. The hope is that I will be able to reach certain areas at low water that have previously been out of reach. Time and my casting ability will tell. 😉

I want to follow the coastline around the Yorke Peninsula, never fished there yet and then over to Smoky for a month and possibly a couple of weeks at Fowlers plus a couple of favourite spots west of there. The weather will be determining factor as it always is with fishing trips.

Maybe you're right there Softy, it happened at light speed so it had to be an automated response.
At the moment, South Oz travellers need a permit to enter Qld, but seeing as I'm going to be down your way on a fishin' mission until April, I'll sort the return journey out when the time comes.
