  1. Friends "used" to pick them up around the Wallaroo jetty.
  2. Locals call it "Shit Creek"
  3. For your own wellbeing, at least gut and gill them prior to freezing!Ya don't have to scale them, and I know a few snapper fishos who prefer to leave the scales on......they say it improves the flavour, I dunno how true that is though, and it's certainly more difficult to scale after freezing.Clean squid prior to freezing.Crabs I wouldn't freeze at all!
  4. I first raised the "do fish feel pain" debate I recon about 7 years ago now. Back then anglers were unaware, thought the concept quite ridiculous to even question, and I was surprised at how many anglers actually believe fish CAN feel pain, despite research to the contrary. In fairness, even amongst the experts debate STILL reigns and camps are split, yet there is constantly growing support that fish CANNOT feel pain.........as the article states, it's something we may never actually know. What we do know is that they respond to external stimuli, but they lack nociceptors and other crucial str
  5. Tacklebags got this one in a few days ago: http://www.strikehook.com/forum/20-south-australian-marine-parks-denr/218528-australia-targeted
  6. Nearly all of my threadlines are Daiwa (luvias, airity, saltiga, etc), nearly all of my overheads are Shimano (calcutta, tld, etc).I do have shimano threadlines (baitrunner, amongst others), I do have Daiwa overheads (zillion). They both work!
  7. Ahhh, now I see! Apologies for my stupid error!
  8. Cockles ..... love the Plural ... Now you could stick a thimble under the chute and still not fill it for 20 centsNo, it/they was/were certainly "cockle" machine(s)......as opposed to "cockles machines"....weren't "ices" machines either! ;)I studied bloody hard to get my grammaticalistics to a goodly level!
  9. Whatever happened to the old cockle machines......which only the ol' farts among us will remember!24/7 you could rock up, stick ya bucket under the chute, drop 20c into the slot and out would come the cockles......of course conveniently located right along side was an ice machine, for those among us who actually caught fish!
  10. I agree the skipper should have taken immediate control of this situation.....everything which happens onboard is HIS resonsibility! One thing which has come of this though, are the constant comments that "fishing is meant to be fun". We are "recreational" fishers........over my time as a staff member here I've had confrontations with many members over thoughts, words and views expressed (and no doubt made a few enemies in the process)........sometimes we ALL take it a little too seriously!
  11. Wonder if it was removed under threat of legal action.....or if it didn't show the "entire" and full story behind the clip?
  12. I'm no expert on the area, but I'd suggest 0.8 might be a bit low to get through.Set your sights on waiting till it's about 1.0-1.3m and you should be fine, coz the last thing you wanna do is get out and start wading through that mud up to your knees. There's some big Bream in the river itself. Keep it quiet as you fish. Leave nothing of value on display in your car, and make sure it's secured properly!
  13. My best worst bycatch would have to be bl**dy cormorant!Trying to get a pilchard down to kingfish without the cormorants seeing it and diving for it!The inevitable happened, I eventually scored one which dove down for the pillie, then I had the job of trying to get it into the boat to remove the hook without being bitten in the process. He got the pilchard, he got released, Ranger got the bite......bl**dy sharp beaks on the things too!Score: cormorant 1 : Ranger 0
  14. What are you targetting, and it would really help to know if you are you trolling, ballooning, downrigging, or sending a weighted bait down?
  15. I think a lot of people put too much thought into their burley, and worry too much about the ingredients.Burley is only something to put a smell into the water, and get the fish feeding. For burley, use whatever you have on hand, ie: cat food, corn flakes, fish frames, crab shells, prawn heads, old pilchards, sardines, left over bait, bread, etc, etc....raid the wifes pantry and you'll certainly come up with some handy ingredients.Mix it up with some fish oil and you are in business. The important thing with burley is to have the burley where you want it, and the "densities" of the ingredients.F
  16. Out of bounds areas are explained to all competitors as part of the briefing prior to Bream tournaments. I recall an official representative from Marine & Harbours being the one to first to explain in depth how/why the law works' date=' as part of his presentation to us. There is no problem with it, regardless of how you see it or how it might seem to you. It's the way the law works, and even in the scenario you described, the landowner DOES also own the water, as the water is now sitting in the area which was formerly covered in land, which he has previously dug away and flooded at his ow
  17. If a marina has been dug out from land and subsequently flooded, it is private property. ie: snowdens marina and royal yacht squadron. In this case the owner has every right to tell him to move along. If it is a structure built out from land onto the water it is public access. ie: north haven
  18. If it's been sitting for a long time, my guess would be that rust and dirt is the big issue. For this I'd be hitting it with the wire brush to remove as much as possible, giving it a good wash down afterwards, then replace the hotplate and heat the thing up.Give it a good smearing with oil and wipe it all down again with newspaper.Repeat the oiling and wiping a few times until there is no more rust appearing on the newspaper. After this keep it covered with a light layer of oil to prevent rust, and then use the thing more often! Each time you use it, it should only need to be heated and then wip

    Grips?

A bit of soap or detergent certainly isn't going to hurt your grips.....and at least the smell lets everyone know that you actually catch fish!
  20. They most certainly will, and marinas are great places to find them, simply due to all the structure encountered there.A marina is all rock walls, pylons, pontoons, hulls, sheltered waters, etc......what self respecting bream could resist. In the marina stay quiet, keep your shadow off the water, move only your casting arm, drop your lure as close as possible to the structure you are fishing, and use the lightest jighead you possibly can (even unweighted).
  21. A bream is a bream, and you landed your target species using the techniques and equipment you wanted to learn!Everyone has to start somewhere, the first few are the hardest, and many give it away before ever landing one. Now that you've got a start, you'll find that they start coming much easier, and I'm sure it wont be long before you start posting pics of those bumper blue lip horses! Keep up the good work, and keep us posted! PS: Daiwa is the ducks guts when it comes to bream gear...let's just keep that between ourselves though!
