  1. Will they be letting people sit the boat license there? I heard a few years back they did such a thing...
  2. You already have an ABU 7000 dont ya? Get it serviced and some carbon tex drag washers put in it (under $50 at sfs), spool it with 40lb ebay braid and run a nice wind on mono leader and it will get you few toothies. Once the budget is increased and you've got a few sharks under ya belt, decide where to go.
  3. hahaha, I throw all my gear on the lawn, and give it all a good spray of fresh water while I do the same to my tub. Just have to make sure that I put the scotchbrite pad down first. If I remember, I tighten the drags first then loosen them afterwards.Put it all back on my rack and leave it till next time.Dont own any high end stuff, just sensible middle/low of the range shimmano/abu stuff.Im yet to have a failure due to maintenance. Id rather be using it than looking at it all clean on a shelf. I leave it all assembled , sometimes traces and leaders still hooked, reels rarely leave the seats
  4. Im a very amatuer plastix flicker and Ive only ever brought one pack of gulps, and caught ST's on them. But I to found a few mongies in the pack. The one gulp caught me 4 fish, and was still mint, so left it on the jig head on the rod until I got home. Once home, the gulp was stiff as!!!I put it back in the packet, to see if the juice will soften it but I have my doubts.I havnt opened the packet to see.In regards to the scent, I prefer the Squidgies in terms of storage and application, found my packet of gulp to be pretty lean in regards to the amount of juice aswell.I do think the actual Gulp

  6. If u go the 7000, before you leave the store get them to wack some Carbon tech washers in there. Reliable 7-8kg drag then, around $30 upgrade at SFS
  7. Shouldn't have spoken so soon, got some more ebay braid, was surprised when it arrived it was in PowerPro packaging. Spooled it and it seems to have a bit of memory :(I have a smaller reel with genuine 10lb PowerPro, has no memory Ive bought plenty of cheap ebay braid, this stuff is the heaviest I've bought, 40lb.Oh well, take the risk , pay the price. See how it fishes.....
  8. Hey mate, if you've found the "other" forum, good luck. You will get alot of ego's and "put in the time newb", and "we arnt spoon feeding you" type help. This forum is much more close knit, has easier going admin and you will quickly see there is lots of helpfull guys on here actually willing to help and not just making boys clubs. In regards to tips, I too made a recent comeback from an extended Hiatus from angling.Since I left, the major development was the introduction of Braid line, plastix and the use of 3000-4000 sized spinning reels on graphite rods to land big fish, These aspect will be
  9. Hey Bloke, where there any fishing titles left or did u clean them out?
  10. My combo:Id be shopping around for one of these (last years model would be cheaper);http://cgi.ebay.com/11-Shimano-Thunnus-CI4-Saltwater-Spinning-Reel-TU-4000-/360342681993?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e618f989and shopping around locally putting it on one of these:http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/products/Shimano-Jewel-762-Snapper-Spin-Fishing-Rod.html if your are going to mainly baitfish orhttp://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/products/Shimano-Raider-Mexican-Fire-Fishing-rods-by-Ian-Miller-%252d-732-Snapper-Light.html if your a going to throw lures and plastixSpool it with some 20lb
  11. My mate took a sambo elite rod to greenly and smashed many a samson and king with it.the rod is still goin fine. I and many friends use eBay braid without issues, and finally, I have a small mojiko spinning reel that has been belted as the "guest" rod for 2 years and still goin good. I have also used some cheap popers that look terrible, catch plenty of st's
  12. If you want to see this china fishing gear in real life, go down to lonsdale to "black marlin" tackle. Just off the freeway, next to Christies wreckers. They have the sambo elite and the black marlin stuff in stock along with china braid. If taking the risk on this gear, maybe go and see them first and see what warranty theyl give ya. Just remember that a valid warranty wouldn't replace the loss of a 30kg King due to a broken reel.My kingy gear: is a TLD 25 on a sambo elite 24kg stand up stroker with penn 40lb mono. Shopped around and got the whole set up for well under $250. I weighed it all
  13. Decided to try Jervios bridge / Newport. Kept getting taps on my softy from tiny bream but thats about it. Didnt try bait, but was still good to try out the new rod. Im really begining to enjoy taking the little one with me aswell, she is a crack up, and very well behaved considering. Great spot for the kids around New Port aswell, specially with the wire balustrades on all the platforms.Thanx for the pointer Jack
  14. Thanx for all the ideas guys. Just have to make a decision now,,,
  15. Cool, thanx Jack, looks like I have a few options aslong as the weather plays nice

    New rod

I did the rounds this arvo, looking to replace my broken rack raider 6'8" 3-5kg. Played with the equivalent revolution t curve, daiwa tierra, the rapala's brenton is talking about, even the berkley attacks and dropshots.Could've easly saved some $$ and got another attack ( already have a 5-8kg) but I kept coming back to the Shimano Jewel 721 1-4kg. SFS will get my hard earned 2morro. They look sooo sexy and with the slightly longer butt and a bit extra in length(compared to the raider its replacing)It will be a great all rounder for light bait fishing and occasional lure/plastix flicking. The h
  19. Dwanye looks like he would be a hit with all the ladies at the Emu pub on friday and thursday night I reckon
  20. haha, nice squid mate!!! I got mine at SFS this arvo, look forward to reading it, diffintly a "big fish issue"
  21. Yeh,used to fish every weekend as a kid,but licence , cars and girls took a front seat from 18 on. But for the last 18 months I've rediscovered the buzz. I'm especially loving being at the helm of my own boat. In regards to pbs, the snapper is achievable,so is my king pb,but I'm comfortable that my mullie pb will stay put. Regardless, every fish hooked gives a great buzz, its a great pastime and good fun sharing it with all likeminded folk
  22. I had a good summers fishing. After being out of the game for close on 10 years, I purchased my first boat about 18mnths ago, and last summer was spent getting used to her, working out the suitable conditions and what species can be chased in such a small craft. So after a very quite winter with a donut on king fish in PA and a dissimal catch of local ST's I was keen for a nice assult in the inshore snapper population. With lots of research and a few pointers from fellow Hookers, I got onto a few reds, and also dropped a few. Plenty of edible by-catch, but still caught too many banjo's and ray
  23. Look forward to reading it, especially Jacks write up on the port river jews and bream
  24. Nice going Brent, first reds in the tinny I assume? :)I ate my pb yesty with close mates including my main net man, tasted sweet with a few frothies to wash it down.Gotta see if I can get out asap for a late season attempt before I get my mechanical hat back on for winter projects
