  1. Where have you fished before? What type of fishing do you do and what is your skill level? What do you want to catch? Are you interested in lots of little fish and plenty of action, or putting in lots of time for a chance of a legal fish but less smaller ones? What rod and reel do you have? No point buying an expensive rod and reel as it won't catch you any more fish if you don't know what you are doing. How far are you willign to travel? Are you willing to fish at night or in rough weather?

  3. Welcome. Nice videos. I see you fish lowmount overheads. What rods do you use?Do you slidebait? The south african rods are very nice. I have a few Purglas rods and a pair of poseidon 5s.
  4. http://www.akff.net/Most guys fish Marino to West beach.Easy launch at seacliff, south brighton, somerton, south glenelg, westbeach boat rampAlso Onk and westlakes are very easy to get started as there is no surf and less wind.
  5. freelined bread or corn works fine. Strong rod holder and fish in gear or bolt rig and baitrunner.
  6. In the shoulder, just under the skin, no deeper than 1cm. If you hit the spine you will kill the bait. If you go too deep with too big a hook you will kill the fish. If you pin the fish too shallow the hook can tear out or bait comes off during the cast.
  7. I thought you couldn't spearfish metro
  8. Off the metro jetties you need to be species specific. Usually only 2 or 3 different fish will be biting off the jetties at any time and fishing generically for 'anything that comes along' usually results in a poor catch. At the moment Tommies are redaily available using gents, but you will usually have no control over the size of the fish caught. Try deeper or off the end under a float at night can help and also give you a chance for gar.YFW are around and can be caught in the shallows using bloodworm. Size 6 hooks are perfect. Unfortunately Tiny tommies and ST are all part of YFW fishing. Som
  9. Where do you fish? What rod and reel and line and trace? What rig and hooks? What bait and how do you bait it?Usually if you are catching small ones, it is just a matter of time till you get a bit one.Anything a small bream eats, a big bream will eat as well.
  10. Sportsfishing scene have the XTB, not sure about the XTC
  11. Live worms (from brighton tackle and bait or bitewell glenelg), other wise fresh frozen (not metho preserved) bloodworms
  12. Good rig. Also works for gar over a sandy bottom during the day, such as henley, grange and semi jetties. I use a dropper loop to connect the hooks instead of swivels and use a burley spring instead of a sinker and also cut the cork in 2 and glue it either side of an unweighted burley spring.
  13. Now is a good time for mullet and small ST. Use a small rod, put out some burley and fish close to shore with cockle and size 6 or 8 hooks. Over winter there are plenty of salmon to be caught and these make good cut bait.I usually stock up on squid over summer for bait. I have also done well on cuttle fish strips as it is a bit tougher than squid.

  16. Metro, yes makes a huge difference. I would rate bait as the most important factor in catching metro YFW. Fishing off the jetty side by side with someone using live worms and you will really struggle if you are not using the same. I have seen many whiting swim upto my bait and if it is not quite right on not fresh they will just turn away.Metro, I have caught a few whiting on frozen bloodworm. My best bag on freeze dried worms is only 15 fish. All by bagouts have been on live bungum, tube worms, bloodworms, or yabbies. On Yorkes I have done fine with frozen bloodworm.
  17. Can you see any whiting? Are you using live bloodworms?I wouldn't bother with cockles for metro fish. The fish in country areas with less fishing pressure are less fussy, but I only use livebait metro.
  18. Yep Catshark speciesHave caught a few here in SA, victoria and also southern NSW. They can be a pest at times, almost as bad as Port Jacksonshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_swellshark
  19. What did you do with it?Any more info on the fight and capture?Did you forward the details and photo to the museum?
  20. Wow 5kg is a massive salmonWhat did it meausre?Must have been a long fight
  21. My parents are visiting at the moment and were keen for some seafood. I don't like fishing during holidays and the last few days reminded me why.Sunday hit up Goolwa. Carpark was full to overflowing with cars lined up on both sides of the road a good 50m away. Got 400 cockles between 3 people but took around 2 hours.Went to Sugars and was met by over 30 boats, 50 4 wheel drives on the other side and at least 50 people fishing from shore. It was difficult fishing in such crowds and I had 3 boats within casting distance. Every 10min, another boat would go past. Managed 1 bream and 17 mullet.Yest
