  1. Around a year ago I got my 3m boat on trailer delivered from brisbane to bordertown for $800 by Johns marine Transport who are based in Adelaide and supply Quintrex/stacer among others to the adelaide and melbourne markets, they are insured freighters who where great to deal with and the best price I found by a long way (some other quotes where 3k and over:blink: )I highly recommend them, they kept me well informed of what was happening every step of the way and the truck driver on delivery even took the time to help me secure the boat on the trailer once hooked up to my car.cheers:)
  2. One of my favourites was when I was out kayak fishing In a little dirty creek that ran through the property I lived at in NSW, I was motoring along under leccy power in 5ft of water in the middle of the creek flat bottom no structure anywhere when suddenly my little garmin 80 sounder started screaming at me with fish alarms going off indicating a very large fish sitting on the bottom in a little depression at around 6ft(I didn't even realise the alarm was on as I had never used that feature before). I proceded to troll through and cast lures at the spot for the next 4 hours after my sounder k
  3. Yeah no worries Nanman, I hear what your saying mate;) cheers
  4. Fair points there Nanman, I'm the same way (buy locally most of the time), but why feel guilty when you would be paying your local store to fix the reel if something went wrong with it? their still making some $ out of the service they provide.cheers
  5. Worst thing about the aus tackle industry supply chain is that you can buy ( Aus made products) off ebay or international sellers and have them delivered to your door from half way around the world much quicker than ordering through Aus retailers:blink: It's not the retailers themselves fault but the distribution networks behind the scene in aus that are a joke and are costing the poor retailers here big $$$.cheers
  6. Sounds like you should be running or are running straight mono mate:) braid is an expensive backing:laugh:
  7. I try not to think about the costs and just enjoy the fishing:)
  8. Thats right Kat the mono or flurocarbon has a lot of stretch so it does help as a shock absorber, but the main reasons would be for abraision resistance because mono etc is a lot tougher than braid when it comes to reef and toothy fish and it's also a lot less visible to the fish than braid.I use anything between 60cm and a rod length depending on the species i'm targeting:) cheers
  9. Do you mean Penn PRO POWER?It was called Penn Power pro when I bought it, unsure if it's changed ?, may have changed it's name when shimano released their power pro?cheers:)
  10. Funky chook, I clearly wrote PENN power pro;) never tried the shimano stuff:) I use Suffix,Sylaflex,Finns, and can't fault the cheap Fireline crystal for strength.cheers
  11. Thanks for the heads up Snake:) Penn power pro is another for the crap list;) cheers
  12. I got the name wrong:whistle: its a Rapala Magnum super light travel rod not tournament:)
  13. I brought a Rapala Tournament travel rod 7ft 4 piece 2-4kg cork grip graphite shaft for around $70 in Canada, comes in a hard case which i guess would be around 65-70cm long, they might be available over here? great rod thats caught me plenty of different species;) highly recommended:) cheers

    squid jags

Don't bother with the tommy teaser too much mucking around and a mumbler/cod dancer works 10 times better IMO and attracts from further distances,, black jags for me but colour means nothing after teasing them in with a mumbler/cod dancer.cheers:)
  15. I use a tuppaware type container with latch lid 30cm x 25cm and have lined every surface inside with 2cm thick foam and a piece of foam as a wall between the reels, I found the soft bags etc a waste of time because they offer FA protection.cheers
  16. That was AFTER a member told her it should have been put back to breed;) Nice catch Kat, nothing wrong with keeping fish for food especially a species as prolific as a sea bream.C&R fisherman tend to get a bit high and mighty at times and tend to preach their ideals, so just ignore that rubbish.cheers
  17. Wish I had the time, patience and most of all know-how to build something like that,, well done funky chook;) nice work:)
  18. I tried the stuffed tubes recently as well and wasn't all that impressed (think they where overcooked) and the stuffing my brother used wasn't all that nice:sick: ! ywurrie's sounds a lot nicer,,thanks mate,,will also give it a try soon.cheers:)
  19. yeah tried that a few times Ramo after it was posted here last year, it's a great way to tenderise it but sometimes it's nice to have it a bit chewy as well, I definately use this method to soften squid when it's going on a seafood pizza in my wood fired oven,,mmmmm. cheers
  20. some interesting ideas there guys, the jerky is certainly one iv'e never heard of before. I used corn flour for a long time before trying rice flour, it seems to have less flour flavour if that makes sense:unsure: have to agree with you 4thalove the tenticles are the best bit provided the squid are under 2kg when the hit the 3-4kg mark they taste horrible for some reason?Keep the ideas coming;) cheers
  21. Thanks for that savagelip, iv'e been meaning to give the breadcrumb a try, should cut down the old oil splatter a bit doing it that way as well,, will give the pickled squid a try as well;) Thanks as well Ranger, I found the rice flour to be the best as well it doesent taint the squid flavour as much as the heavier flours, will be trying that marinade bbq recipe as well sounds gooood:) Last time I deep fried in a light beer batter I had some problems with popping and splatter from some moisture on the squid even after thouroughly drying it with paper towl before hand, so if anyone has a way of
  22. Hi Guys, i'm keen to hear some different methods of cooking squid as i'm getting bored with the way I cook them.I have been trying a few different things from just using a variety of diff flour coatings with just salt pepper and chilli cooked in butter and high smoke point oil, even tried deep fried with beer batter which was ok but not great!so how do you guys cook it? cheers
  23. my method is similar to Archerfish, I simply make up a salt bath and place the fillets in it for a few minutes before transfering the wet fillets into freezer bags, it stops the fillets from drying out and they come out tasting fresher than just simply freezing them normally, I thought it would have the opposite effect when a mate told me about it (salt sucking moisture from fillets) but it works a treat.cheers
  24. This topic is really a non event Guys, there WON"T be an RFL introduced under the current government so whats the point of debating the issue? it's been done to death so let it rest until the next election;)
  25. The powers that be should change the "save the murray' levy to a 'fish the murray' levy, theres very little decent freshwater fishing oportunities in the rest of the state so people shouldn't be expected to pay for nothing, I think the murray has been saved in the short term (not by the levy mind you). The moneys paid only by murray river fisherman could/should be put back 100% into stocking cod and improving facilities along the river.cheers
