  1. I would be looking at 2000-2500 sizes for better casting distance, especially casting small light hardbodies
  2. Once you get to beachport go down to the beachfront and turn right at roundabout the follow that road for 400-500m and follow the tourist drive signs, salmon hole is really only worth fishing if it's high tide with big swell or dawn or dusk. The Jetty is always more productive than the salmon hole.
  3. PE lines are rated in LB'S as well and even though PE is a line diametre measurement they are far more accurate ratings that normal or fused lines which are Test breaking strains that break well above their stated breaking strain.EG, PE .6 10lb breaks at 9-11 lb but mostly at the stated 10lb of pressureTest line 10lb breaks closer to 22lb-24lbHope that helps
  4. Check that your roller bearing hasn't seized try a PE.8 or .6 ,,8 strand tournament braid, that should fix the problem!
  5. As long as theres no cracks running down the blank it will be fine, level the broken tip and remove any rough edges, heat your tip guide with a lighter and the old tip should pull out , then just glue it back onto the blank
  6. You can get wind knots off the spool as-well
  7. Cheers Moggy, I can see that being a problem, wouldn't want to get a wind knot jammed halfway up the blank either
  8. Direct from the bozos shop mate
  9. Very true Kelvin, once you use high end gear it's very hard to go back to using even mid range graphite, GLX loomis addiction here Interline rods are interesting technology that havent really caught on, anyone tried them?
  10. I have used their Plastics and chatterbaits, pretty good quality
  11. Very awkward I would imagine but not sure why anyone would hold a rod as described (6-7inches foward or behind)?, I hold my hand above the reel with index finger touching the blank infront of the front grip, we may have to agree to disagree on this one mate To me balancing a rod/reel on your finger makes about as much sense as people testing/evaluating reels by turning the handle to see how many revolutions the spool does before stopping, in reality it tells you nothing about the quality or performance.cheers
  12. How does it help Ausea? you can still use a rod to twitch a lure if a rod is butt heavy without getting a sore wrist! when we are talking about combos that have a total weight of under 300g does it really matter?cheers
  13. The whole balancing a rod on your finger tip to see if it's balanced is a load of rubbish imo, how many people here fish with one finger on the grip? It's all down to personal choice and the balance is how it feels in your hand while casting and retrieving. Most split grip rods are low to mid range gear, once you get into the high end finess gear they tend to go back to full cork. All my light outfits would flip over backwards if I tried balancing it on my finger from the front grip, not a fan of split grips personally, have a few but rarely get used.
  14. bingo , better feel for light lure fishing, You see the odd bream finess fisherman with no front grip or shortened to get better feedback,, can't see the benifit for heavy rods though!
  15. They are in decent numbers off that jetty at times during cold currents, can be a pain while chasing squid on plastics, hear the locals lovem but i wouldn't have a clue how to prep them, i normally just send them back before getting jabbed They release well if you shut their mouthes, their jaws can lock upen while pulling a hook out and tend to float if released.
  16. Snook, coota and a big salmon, the salmon was caught on the jig after stealing a squid off it
  17. Possibly a small velvet crab?
  18. Thanks Kelvin for the ID mate, awsome eating damn it :S Was caught on beachport jetty, this time of year we get cold currents come into the bay from the shelf and get a few different deeper water species in 3-4m of water,, last year it was arrow squid
  19. Was a WTF is that moment Allroy, fit my whole fist in it's gob to get the grub out, I let it go so just waiting for the replies saying their the best eating fish on the planet ,, plently of squid for dinner anyways
  20. Was chasing some squid off a local jetty this morning and pulled this thing in on a 5'grub, was 66cm and around 3lb and swallowed the grub a fair way down! I haven't googled it, thought a salt fisho on here would know what it is? @nd pic shows a little red worm that is part of it's lower jaw to attract prey i'm guessing.
  21. Daiwa 2012 Luvias 2004h are a good reel for fishing plastics, the high speed helps a lot with that style of fishing. In the medium price range, PLAT Japan will have one at your door quicker than 99% of aussie internet traders Exist 2508H would be another even better option cheers
  22. Just a doubble blood knot, the trick is, after you have tied it on do the first half dozen wraps around the spool by hand firmly before using the reel handle to wind on the rest cheers
  23. Iv'e been using braid straight through for 15 years on different reeels for different species and can't say that braid has ever slipped/spun on the spool once! have never used tape or backing, just spool the braid firmly and theres no problems cheers
  24. Using mono backing is wastage, fill the spool with braid which is not much for a 2000 size reel and after 2 years of use you can then turn the spool around and have new/unused line again
  25. Stretch that budget to $60 and get some sunline castaway .6pe , you won't be disappointed like you will be with finns
