  1. Apologies to Crocodile Dundee... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoduck
  2. G’day S&HersI had the good fortune to be over the other side of “the ditch” in NZ earlier this month. While I was there, I picked up a copy of the November 2011 edition of “New Zealand Fishing News” and two items in particular caught my eye:One was the editorial by Grant Dixon, headed “Bad news in pairs”. It covered the effects on fishing of the grounding of the Rena on Astrolabe Reef, but primarily the

  4. Did anyone spot this in last weekend's Sunday Mail?http://www.slagoon.com/cgi-bin/sviewer.pl?selectdate=10/16/11
  5. Spotted some information about this yesterday. 6. Spotted this tonight while browsing through the latest "Escape with ET" free eMagazine tonight:http://kliksinkers.com/It seems that the only stockists so far are in Queensland & NSW. Any SA tackle stores looking at stocking them on a trial basis?Cheersaf

  9. I've got a baitcasting outfit I occasionally use for chucking HBs around in fresh water. It's a Daiwa Procaster X Interline 602 MLRB-1 matched to a Shimano Cardiff 100. I've had it for nigh on 10 years. It's a sweet enough little outfit - the only downside being that to thread the line through the guts of the rod, you've got to use a thin metallic cable with a loop in one end (supplied with the rod). If you have a bust off in the middle of a hot bite, it's not the easiest thing to re-thread your line quickly - and additionally, you can be a bit stuffed if you mislay the cable. Otherwise, a nic
  10. fodfaIf you're still interested, this advertisement appeared in The Advertiser today (Saturday 8/10/11):http://boats.classifieds.adelaidenow.com.au/detail/bait-goolwa-cockles-new/2759740630-adelaide-sa/What I DO find interesting though, is that they are advertised as "new seasons". I thought the Pipi (Goolwa Cockle) season started on 1st November - or do the pro's have different rules to we mere recreational fishos?Cheersaf
  11. Murphysegg is on the money...KISS (keep it simple, stupid) principle applies, although I prefer to grill, rather than bake.Slash the fish a few times on both sides, add a little olive or rice bran oil and massage in salt and seasoning/herbs/spices of your choice and whack it under a hot griller for about 6 minutes or so on both sides (depending on size).Important: Make sure you bleed the little critters first when you catch them & make sure the gut cavity is completely cleaned out when you're preparing them. They are a lot tastier than many people give them credit for.CheersafPS Yes...they
  12. Chief SDunno whether you've spotted this mob advertising in (strangely enough!) "The Advertiser" of late:http://www.stainlesssteelaustralia.com.au/There maybe some ideas there for you as well...Cheersaf

  14. G'day AllPicked up a new recipe book last week...The recipe for "Fried Squid with Lime & Ginger Mayo" states in part:"Place the rings and tentacles in a bowl, then pour over the soda water and leave for 20 minutes to tenderise."I've quickly Googled the topic and there seems to be some basis to the procedure.Just wondering if any of you out there have tried it and,if so, how successful was it?Cheersaf
  15. fodfaHaven't seen the ad in the 'Tiser for the 20kg of Goolwa Cockles (pipis) for a little while now...maybe the dude is sold out until the season re-opens in November. Cheersaf

  18. sirwaxxalotYou may find this helpful:http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au/baittech.htmKeeping the reel at a 90 degree angle from horizontal while casting is also beneficial.I can only echo previous sentiments on this post - practice, practice, practice :cheer:Cheersaf

  20. G'day AllAnyone had a chance yet to "road test" the new Berkley NanoFil fishing line?I notice it got a mention on page 9 of the latest Wildcoast and also on page 61 of the latest SA Angler and it all sounds wonderful according to the accompanying blurb - however, I was wondering how it performs in real life.Cheersaf

  23. On second thoughts, you're probably right chuckemback. Looks like the vertical bars which are prominent in juvenile Tommies (or Australian Herring, take your pick!) tend to fade as they get older. Thanks & cheersaf
