yes definatly older crabs taste adverage usauly show signs of spots and dirtyness on the shells i no ya on the ball and also no ur an old basterd as ive seen pics of u and u make me feel like a spring chicken mate lmao u sure u steamed them enough as u have too do for 20-30mins cant over steam them as u can over boil them looking at ya pic again the shells arent snow white ay maybe it is due too there condition?? just a few maybes

i use too get that every now and then when i boiled them mate not sure if its because they have been over boiled or the lack of body meat since ive been steaming them have never had a bad 1 even when they are empty they still taste choice... as the guts and feelers being boiled with little body meat is what make the crab taste crap when they arent full how full were they mate?? as i noticed the 1s i got the other day werent as full as previous 1s..beauty with steaming u cant over steam them either

make up mash potato cut up some onion add too mash let it cool down..add 2 eggs too crabs and mix...50/50 crab and mash mix together ...roll into balls and flattern them on bread crumbs shallow fry delish mate can put anything u like too them for own taste but my grandkids cant get enough of that simple repipe

as said mesh size doesnt matter mate a big tip tho if a crab thinks hes free he will let go and try get out so when getting them out grab bottom and top and empty like ur holding a bucket and most times they go straight into the bucket same as undersize 1s dangle upside down over the side and they will let go

great post col yes have ya check list mate i still have a routine i go through after 30 years of boating garden island or outer harbor are both in protected waters mate..sounds like ur sensible and aint gonna go 10kms off shore in a inshore boat plenty on offer in the port or barkers inlet st kilda ect garfish tommys salmon trought crabs mullys ect the list goes on always re-check the weather report before u leave home and keep in mind the weatherman gets it wrong too stay safe and have fun i love being on the water its so relaxing and great theropy..Tightlines..

with the amount of crabs around atm mate u will still get them with no tide movement if they start too slow down move 100 meters and try again 3 is plenty if ur not putting them on buoys..then fish for gar or use squid heads and its a natural berly for thge KGW

fishing is a way of life not a hobby all true fisherman eat there catch or C&R simple we do not kill for the sake of it

best bait u can use mate but getting the smell off ya hands takes a few weeks lol plenty off crabs around atm we dumped all our garfish frames yesterday as know one had any room in there freezers also a gun bait

thing is Col they may eat 5 kilo a day but they prob kill 20 kilo a day as they kill fish for sport hence only eat the tail end of most fish same ol story the government wont do shit till its too late defiantly need a Cull on these cute little critters now

haha love it ate it in fish patty alot as a kid (European background) and must say my bubba had it nailed apparently its at its best when the blood is fluorescent red but must admit i just cant bring my self too even try it these days smells REAL bad
