  1. great looking fish. I love the idea of the beer can measurments lol maybe a coke or water bottle one as well may be handy :drink:
  2. I was wondering how people got into fishing in the first place and what was their earliest memory or first catch. To be fair i'll start off. My first catch was at Blanchtown 48-49 years ago where as a youngster of about 5ish i caught my first fish which was a nice callop. My Dad told me it easily weighed a coupla pounds and the joke was i was using a handline and instead of pulling the line in i kept walking to the water with it only to have my old man keep pulling me back lol. After that he built me my first rod (i have them still) and put a 3 1/2 inch alvey on it for me. We went off to live
  3. fantastic pix. Bring back so many good thoughts of my now not so little son trying for his first fish - which turned out to be a very nice KGW off of Walleroo jetty which was followed later that day by a couple of squid-the 1st of which scared the shit out of himbut after a bit he went back to fishing to score another. I still get paid out because i promised him we'd take it home for tea and after cleaning it we put it in the freezer of the cabin we were staying at and after getting home the next day he gave me daggers when i had to admit that i'd forgotton all about it and it was still in the
  4. I seen them mentioned about the place but dont know a lot about them - if no luck maybe a google search could help
  5. I have a fibreglass trout rod-converted from a blank. Pefect for mt to use when flicking or just wading with a bait on
  6. Always take my trusty baked beans on the jetty for a filling lunch-gotta luv em cold-i do lol. At night we used to tuck into an Editburgh Burger-man u all gotta try one of those from the takeaway-best thing since sliced bread. Nowadays we head into Minlanton to the local footy club for a full on steak with the trimmings-best tucker and cheapest price on the peninsula. Brekky usually consists of weet bix, 2 minute noodles, heaps of strong coffee
  7. They may have been totally devoted fisher folk preparing a secret berley mix
  8. anywhere but in the Port in the dead of winter with 3 long-necks of Coopers stout lol i agree but i could drink the stout but the horrible days of my mis spent youth fishing the rocks by the steel wharf all night, swatting mozzies and guzzling grappa still haunt my sleep
  9. Just fish where theres rocks, overhangs, piers, jetties anywhere theres covering structures etc. Bream fishing is all about patience but the run is well worth the wait-well to me it is anyway
  10. So now that the school hollies are over i was wondering if anyone had some fun stuff or just general fishy news on how their kids fared and what stories you may like to share with us - I used to find that the holidays mixed with my son and water was a true comedy in the making :S
  11. In theory a licensing scheme that supports recreational fishing would be fine-in reality "yeah right". It would be great to see the money used for sustainability, well repaired jetties, good boat ramps, freshwater fishing care, etc but it wouldnt happen. Like the road tax it wouldnt be sent to what it was designed for but shuffled off into what govts deem "more important/appropriate issues"Dont worry 4loveoffishing you didnt appear to be ranting just giving an opinion-which is still acceptable in this country-and free
  12. Could be a cat shark, and the ray we used to just call skates - dont know if thats an accurate name or just what weve dubbed them
  13. I love me Alveys-i mentioned them in the what reel u got section ages ago. I have all from the 3 1/2" sidey to my big 650C5 Star Drag Smooth Clutch Reel. Ive been fishing with them for over 40 years and still use my original that Dad gave me. I swear by them for my bream fishing and going for the bigger types-snapper, mullys from the beach and rocks and when fishing the mighty murray
  14. Beautiful work-nuthin like skill at work
  15. thats one crook lookin flattie Imagine all the twists and turns he'll have when he grows older-wonder if they get arthritis
  16. Its ok to eat the WL fish - just not to swallow them after chewing Actually i dont eat WL of Port River species-you can easily tell the difference-PR species glow. The chances of the fish being affected by chemicals, toxic sea weeds etc isnt worth the risk-i just catch, photo and release
  17. youll have to keep us updated on how they fare when u use em-they look excellent
  18. go for quality-Hornes
  19. bloody hell what a tale of disaster and well told Ale. I lot of interesting topics raised and noted buit for me-i'll stay land based as i could walk long before i cou;ld swim-oh yeah i cant swim

  21. Im after a double quest:a thumper bream and a go for my first flathead
  22. I waxed nd polished the car and cut the lawn - does that count
  23. Ranger pretty well said it all. Dont get sucked into wearing wellies as youll end up with a chafe rash to beat all rashes.
