  2. There's a big storm a brewin. I was hoping for a bit of rain and Storm to help out my planned Mulloway sess(shhhhh) early hours Saturday morning. But, looking at the RADAR, this is looking like a big bloody boofer of a storm. Could it be possible for 100mls rain in a single December storm????!?Anyway, DO NOT launch ya boats lol even in the port  Batten down the hatches guys and girls, this weathermans predicting a big fat wet summer storm. Take care on the roads and bring on the mulloway Saturday morning.Tight lines all!
  3. Taking nothing away from the Fly Video as it bloody awesome.:woohoo: But the DVD I burnt is A hell of a lot better quality than My video looks on YouTube. I think a lot has to do with downscaling the file for upload. And I was shocked as I only filmed bits with my iPhone.Point is if you want to share footage on the web, I think you'll need more expensive gear, but for your own DVD use, if you use the right software it'll look awesome. And that's on a 50" LCD.
  4. Very nice!Just goes to show that no fish are safe if a flyfisherman gets an idea in his head. I reckon that was something special mate :):)Cheers
  5. Thanks very much for the kind words guys, it's a pleasure to share our morning with you guys.@UHF it wouldn't have been as big as dels. We didn't weigh it as we've got no scales lol. It was a heavy fish with big head and shoulders but interestingly it only went 81cm on the brag matt. Looking at the pics, it seems a lot bigger than that.It wolfed down the live slimey caught on sight (as did the hammer). As I was on burley duty slicing up cubes of pillie and chucking it out every 5 or so minutes, it was great to see plenty of pillie slices in it's guts. The out going tide was running pretty hard
  6. Inspired by Ricks footage from the illusions (cheers Rick) I gave it a crack filming our Saturday morning session. (also put it in the report thread)I think this link now works on everything apart from my iPhone lol;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W67UC2PXKPM&sns=em
  7. Pretty special. You guys must have had a blast
  8. KILLA VIDEO. Looked like a great day and with the boats bunched up it's great to hear that it was all a friendly well mannered affair. Makes you proud to be from S.A. Man we have it good here :)
  9. Good old PLAN B hey? Honestly I have had my most memorable trips when going Plan B to Z lol. You're not a REAL fisherman if ya don't have a PLAN B
  10. I reckon today would be great out there!Earlier the better tomorrow though. The wind will probably start to go crook in the arvo. The weather is a bit wonky at the moment, I'm keeping an eye on it for Saturday, but the synoptic chart is looking a bit weird, troughs and no dominant systems to predict any kind of stability.Like I said though, if you head out early tomorrow, it's looking not bad, and from dawn you could catch the big run out tide. That arvo tide looks a bit piss weak.Good luck christening the boat with a big knobbie :):)Look forward to the pics.
  11. My rule for the boat is if it's over 15knots I ain't going! At 15 knots, you will start to see white caps and it gets a bit too uncomfortable. But as Brent says, direction is a big thing. Land based, it will depend on your spot. Example 20 knot southerly might be alright on outer harbour breakwater. Water is chopped up, you cam fish shipping Chanel while protected by the rocks at your back. Similarly, while the average boater (me) won't go OUT, it can still be okay tucked into the port river/angus inlet/barker inlet, if you can fish on lee side. Also, to me 8 knots and under is quite pleasant n
  12. Haha good fun to pay out on the Vics. But port Philip bay and that simply do not produce even close to the numbers of proper BIG reds. The armed forces if full of eastern staters, and us SA and ViC boys used to stick together a bit. What with being mexicans that love our AFL and all :)So long as they are obeying our fishery laws. Good on em, lots of S Australians hit the bream and mulloway at Nelson and of course go and have a troll a cross the border for the big fat Cod :):)Nah, the only annoying thing about this time of year (apart from crowded boat ramps . ) is all the bloody fair-weather fi
  13. .... As if we need ANOTHER excuse lol.And if we're taking side bets, my moneys on SAMBOMAN (as long as there's some of that summer fog on the lake )Cheers, good cause
  14. ..... Obviously... They are used for catching big ASS fish ...or that really hard to catch ASShole of a fish :pinch:
  15. Love the smile, love the fish and love the story :) Awesome work AliKat. I like the bit where you say "ever the optimist" hahaha. I'm just like that with the mulloway here in the port river haha but you give me hope that one day that screaming run'll come.Well done mate!!!! Bet your son is keen as mustard to get back out and get one too
  16. Tell you the truth I've only really used the bigger ones for salmon. But it makes sense that squid would have a go... interesting. I read an article in a fishing mag last year about people getting Bream in Westlakes on poppers too, you'd have to be good I reckon
  17. Okay, I've had a crack at the YFW using poppers, infact one popper, a little clear bassday crystal popper and it worked famously :):):):)But what advice do youse have on popper technique, colours, sizes, rods, reels, line etc. Especially water depth. I've had success in really shallow water (wading). And caught fish using a popper in water to only about a meter and am hesitant to use this surface method if the water is deeper, (like 1 to 3m). I imagine the YFW would not hit the surface so readily if it's 3m from the sand??? Maybe someone can tell me differently. Also, I use my general light lur
  18. I guess still a bit off topic(might start a new thread) but do poppers also work in the deeper water, or just real skinny water??
  19. As light as possible as said, and if using no trace as Softy says, make sure the sinker is again as light as possible. On a super calm day, even flick a worm or clicker out unweighted. The more natural the better as the YFW can be very touchy/spooky at times.I would think the paternoster rig is much better suited to the KG whiting.
  20. Back end of the clicker?..... Is that it's clacker? Hahaha
  21. If you want to rig them live, just put the hook ONCE through the tail. It'll let it crawl around naturally and won't pierce any vital organs and kill it. The YFW will smash the whole thing! If the clicker is dead, thead the hook through with the hook exposed (just like an SP).Remember, to keep them alive, the most important thing is keeping them cool, the same temp as the area you took them from.I mainly use Worms (lazy) and try the popper now and then. But nearly ALL the bigger YFW I've brought home, have had a belly full of clickers. Some are whole and you could still use em for bait lol. As
  22. There are moulds you can buy for making SP's. Also the plastic to make em.I've been looking on the net and so far can o ly find the stuff for sale from the U.S.Sounds like a good idea though and wouldn't mind giving it ago sometime.
  23. They are the real thing :)The beauty of these is they won't go bad and stink. When your ready to use them, simply soak em in water. If you use tuna oil in your burley, soak em in a bit of the oil... Even better. The YFW love em don't worry about that and so do Bream
