  1. Fresh gummy steaks take a fair bit of beating
  2. Sounds good tone. Hey how many combo's are you running at present? Don't forget to wash it down with an icy peronni

Can I do a self nomination for the team? ....there'd have to be a few contenders....kelvin is a no brainer, but ranger is fairly crafty with the old 650 mm squidgie. Southie's always a bit of a dark horse too
  4. I was driving past the North Adelaide par 3 golf course the other day and reminisced back a good 15 years to when the hotel was known as 'Gheckos'- it was the place to be on a Friday and Saturday night. One frosty evening I smuggled a pen that i had modified into a makeshift handline into the happening nightspot. After several nips of courage I procured some bait (salt and vinegar chips squeezed into a paste) and cast my line from the bustling balcony into the inky black torrents some 10 metres below. No one was more surprised than me when a tentative nibble led to a flapping and floundering 4

I'd be as keen as mustard to sport a strikehook guernsey
  7. I reckon I'm going to buy a yak ranger!, you put forth a convincing case! I'm most at home on the rocks because I cut my teeth on them.... But it's hard to beat a deck chair on a surf beach, a coopers in one hand and a rod holder either side, watching your glow sticks and anticipating the scream of the reel. Such are day dreams made of.
  8. If you're fishing the surf I'd target salmon trout with some freshly dug goolwa cockles. Then before sunset throw out a fillet on a heavier outfit for gummy sharks
  9. Slow flowing or Murray backwaters with dead carp for bait is the recipe. Closer to home, almost all dams creeks and rivers hold them. I've been doing quite well on deep shady pools of the bremner. Peace
  10. It could be a good start to hit the jetty, it's a bit easier rock fishing to begin with. Low light (dawn and dusk) times are best, and an hour either side is much more productive on most jetties than the middle of the day. (generally speaking). There are some great salmon runs at pt norlunga but these occur mostly during rough winter weather. Take a couple squid jags, some gents and pellet burley- a burley float leading about a metre and a half to a size 12 hook will put you in the running for tommies and gar. Good luck
  11. Yeah good comments guys. I reckon it's just like the jetty sharking issue, where eventually public pressure forces some sort of action to be taken to in the interest of 'public safety'- this usually quietens the issue down for a while, even if the action taken is inappropriate, or a token quick fix. Great whites have been protected for about 20 years now, it makes sense that there are more around. They definetely visit Adelaide metro waters this time of year.
  12. Toad fish. Hope you didn't eat it!
  13. Now I'm a bit confused- I heard Kirton point jetty was accessible only through the caravan park, and home to some of the biggest badass eagle rays around? Brennan's is awesome for snapper and garfish, and if you're around the main wharf when a pillow boat is unloading, there can be a salmon invasion.
  14. Good luck with which ever option you go for- let us know how it goes
  15. I prefer the 'feel' of mono- and use it for everything except deep reef bottom bashing. Might try braid on a finely tuned spin outfit to give it another crack
  16. Good advice cal. Tides and wind may make life a little difficult for the young fella, beach fishing can be a bit tough for a beginner if conditions are anything but glassy. A nearby jetty may be a good option, as you can drop your line pretty much straight down into deep water, and there's a fair chance he'll get a few bites and hopefully catch something and be hooked for life. Seeing someone catch their first fish is priceless- I think the closest jetty to sellicks could be a fair drive to second valley or back to pt norlunga tho. If you do go the jetty option, your best bet would be to fish
  17. Hey jack, there's some nice grassed areas with playgrounds before you cross the bridge as you probably know, where the meaty carp are thick, and pretty eager to accept your offering of corn or a rogue garden slug. Over on the island you can park at sugars beach and wander left to 'scabs channel' where there's usually a good supply of just legal salmon trout and mullet. Recent reports suggest some pretty chunky ocean run bream being taken, although I'm not sure where from. It's great wading around in ankle deep water from sugars beach, casting into likely looking channels and holes. Some old sa
  18. Hey mate- its very rocky and snaggy there- try a heavy styrofome torpedo float above a single hook- keep things simple. A rod of around 9 foot with a medium action will cover most species encountered there like sweep, drummer, cod, jackets, zebras, squid and gar. Ok, maybe a jag for the squid.
  19. I'm sure you would brenton
  20. I heard a story about a couple of brave souls diving around the deep channels of the port- apparently their treasure included an empty safe, and several sacks of plate sized angle grinded gtr xu1 Torana- minus engine, wheels ect...
  21. Hi team....the snake thread got me thinking....hopefully no one has been unlucky enough to be 'bitten in action' .... I've had a couple of close shaves, one involving a black snake whilst setting a yabby net- my mate literally saved the day with a chop from his walking stick as it poised to strike. My mate got on the wrong end of a red back bite whilst scrounging for tackle in a neglected lure box- he described it as 'searing agony' amongst many expletives. Hopefully no one has had a serious injury, and this is certainly not intended to be an ego competition- just interest in our less than ple
  22. Ive been thinking of bidding on one of those chunky old Mitchell 449 surf reels- they've got a certain mystique
