  1. Some nice new toys coming out 4sure. Not always better but. To know a true classic you need to own one and use it longterm. Then sell it and realise 5 to 10 years later they haven't got any better. Basically like the z series saltiga. I do own a few okuma makairas in the overhead models and can't fault them. Guys bag the okuma brand and haven't owned one but the new okuma reels do have a very reputable engineering company by the name of tiburon which have been making highend gear for years. If these guys were involved in the design etc it may well be a classic, wouldn't surprise me. Time will
  2. Was a good old spot back in the day. Some good mullies were landed off them wharves too. My best there was a 40lber. The old accolade wooden wharf was also a great spot too. I feel old, hahaha.
  3. Some nice bream there fellas. I used to fish alot for bream and grew up fishing spots like the old beswicks boatyard slipways, cement company wharfs, sugarwharfs and jervois and other spots. Only pulled tiddlers out of the lake unfortunately, hahaha. Back then measurements weren't so important to us but we did land some honkers over 2kg as a guess. Biggest I ever saw was too big to turn around in a 40 litre tub and was caught by my mate. Not sure of the length but a true monster for sure. Cheers
  4. Nice fish out of the lake fellas!!!!
  5. Like the samaki rods too. Ended up getting a k2 4lb - 8lb. Good balance of power and finesse. Will be teamed up with a shimano 1000 aspire. Also got a older c12 model that is teamed up with a 2500 certate. Also chasing a 2500 reel for a infeet bay jigger atm, can't believe how many smaller reels there are to choose from out there atm. Will take my time and see what I prefer. Cheers
  6. Hi guys, anyone bought any new ultra light toys lately? Looking at reels up to 2500 size and smaller atm. Don't mind spending if worth it. Cheers
  7. Lots of options out there buddy. I would probably get a rod built from Steve Morris at topshot tackle. He has built all my customs. Can't get a better rod in my opinion and Steve knows alot. Depending on budget too. Cheers
  8. Yeah plankton. Agreed. I used to run a 200b calcutta with the sensor and ended up matching it with the slightly bigger 400 calcutta which made more sense. The version u have were nice too, seen a few guys using them at the murray mouth. Nice and light too. Cheers
  9. I run a 400 calcutta matched to a 10ft sensor surf older version which covers metals and lightly weighted pillie baits. Also run a daiwa 8ft egi rod with a smaller 2500 silver luvius for a light option. Also used to run Abu 6500 baitcaster on a custom 6110 snyder like southie. This was a great combo back in the day also. Could really flick an unweighted pillie a long way including covering metal lures too. Lots of choices these days depending on budget. Cheers
  10. Still got my old set of hornes. With the heavy duty boot. Have been awesome and never leaked. Hopefully I can still fit in them, hahaha. Haven't worn them in a while. hahaha
  11. Thanks bud. Still a great fish plankton, every mully fisher knows no matter the size they are all still well earnt. Nice one buddy. Kind of having withdrawals as I haven't been west in several years. Cheers
  12. Hi pauly. Definitely a nice species to tick off the list mate. Love to catch another one mate just saying, hahaha. Cheers bud.
  13. Hi fellas, thought I would kick start an old thread and see what you guys have been catching. This is my biggest mully, didn't get the weight but was 141cms tip to tip. Caught on the west coast a few years ago, been a mulloway drought for me since then unfortunately. A lack of fishing doesn't help, hahaha, cheers
  14. Interesting subject this one. The list could be endless. Sometimes you need to really thrash a product and only realize once it's gone that it's a true classic especially when the newer replacement doesn't measure up. Couple of items come straight to mind like the dual blend composite 540 sabres, saltiga z series pre mag oil reels, stella gold sw series. Shame they changed both these models to be honest. Nearly forgot. Also use a little shimano bantam 10x that I bought when I was a kid. Still wish they made these also. Cheers
  15. I always thought the point of the hook protruding on the soft succulent side would increase hookup rate especially if a wary fish was picking at the raw non skin side of the fillet. Probably doesn't make no difference but felt more confident this particular way.
  16. Another mid priced option would be the older model version catalina bay jigger. A great rod too. I used to own one of these until a mate begged me to sell it to him. Cheers and goodluck.
  17. Lots of choices out there with different budget ranges. Kg killa are a great rod for around $90.00. Saltiga bay jigger to the other $$$$$ extreme. The bay jigger style of rods are great to put in a rod holder too with their longer butt.If chasing a more deeper bottom bashing whiting rod just up size slightly with a size bigger. I run a saltiga 62s for this kind of thing. Very versatile rod too. Cheers
  18. Shimano 1000 Aspire is a gun choice if u can get hold of one. Wasn't much between the stella of the same year besides a bearing or 2. If u can find one. Mine has been great, several years old now.
  19. Pt Giles is overrun with seals too these days unfortunately. Makes it hard for fishing 4sure!!!!!
  20. The old proven method was to tighten your spool tension so it slowly feeds out under the sinkers weight and hits the deck and not fuzz the reel. This is good advice for the beginner and also smooth constant weight on the rod tip as you proceed with the casting action. Just requires practice and conditions can also play a part like heavy baits and head winds etc. Once you get more proficient you will find yourself backing off the spool tensioner which will aid with more distance. Hope this helps. Cheers
  21. Thanks ASD14, look like a nice bit of kit 4sure. Cheers
  22. Hahaha, even harder to conceal highend gear purchases, another good tip for concealment is the old laybuy, gives you some time to chip away at it, hahaha. Don't blame me though if you get caught running the gauntlet. hahaha
  23. Once the fishing tackle addiction takes over it's a hard habit to stop. The inner tacklerat seems to emerge. Lookout bank balance!!!!!! Hahaha
