  1. How about something like a 15-30lb terez matched to a biomaster sw 6000. Higher speed reel for those speedy tuna.Combo would set you back around 600. Should be reliable enough without breaking the bank.
  2. Had a play with these yesterday.Compared the 7'2 30-50lb terez with the lox iridium king 10-15kg.The Terez felt a lot better in the hand than the pricier Lox, even though it is rated higher.Plus the benefit of the K guides.Shall be making a purchase very soon.
  3. Jinkai Plus is a higher abrasion resistant leader but not as supple as original Jinkai.Apparently clearer as well.
  4. Had a quick browse through some anti fishing sites today.Apparently eating fish is very dangerous as it is full of toxins. Will cause you to get cancer. And is full of fat and cholesterol. These sites also have dedicated children's sections. That run through different scenarios.Eg. 'what to say to your friend if he or she asks you to come fishing'
  5. Here is a great article with some very good points on the 'do fish feel pain?' debate.Hopefully the extremists at PETA read this. After seeing some of their Anti Fishing advertising and propaganda aimed at children the organisation lost all credibility with me.http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/blog-do-fish-have-a-brain-for-pain
  6. Can't beat Ray and Anne's online shop.Cheaper than motackle.Plus they offer free delivery on a lot of items.Support a long standing SA business.
  7. Almost cheaper than throwing around a saltiga stick bait
  8. My advice is to stay away.I bought a 4-8lb model a couple of years ago.As others have said they are not light and whippy at all.I would have been better off using a broomstick.Used it once and never again.Edit: I think mine was Sambo branded
  9. Daiwa sounds the go.Hopefully R & A's have a 3000 left when I head down. Waiting on a couple of Invoices to clients
  10. Looking for a new reel for medium to heavy lure work.Mulloway, Snapper, Salmon, Rat kings etc.Basically I've narrowed my choices down to these two.Positives of the Daiwa: Round Eva knob (I prefer these over the stradics egg), 2 spools.Positives of Shimano: Longevity (or so I've heard) over the Daiwas.I've searched for days about replacement knobs for the Stradic but haven't come up with a definite answer. All I've found out is they may be the same as a jap 11 Biomaster and use a Shimano type B knob.Anybody had experience with both these reels? If not some insight into why you chose one over the
  11. 1. Double Uni2. Snell3. Twisted Dropper loop4. Locked Half Blood5. Lefty's Loop KnotDan C. I've used that snell on Snapper. Haven't lost a hook yet
  12. EDIT: The 3000 Rarenium does not exist in Australia. Will have to see if the Stradic Ci4 3000 spool is interchangeable.
  13. Cheers for the fast reply mate. Will have to investigate further with the Rarenium. Probably have the same drag knob size issue.
  14. Sorry to hijak a thread here but are you running a 3000 spool on your 2500?I was looking into this but couldn't find if the 3000 spool fit the 2500 rarenium. Are you talking about a stradic here statesquider?I think I read somewhere the drag knobs are different sizes?Any info would be great.
  15. Good reel. But I would personally go max 15lb braid on it with that rod.10lb would suit it better. Especially for bread and butter species. On my Rarenium 2500, I fit a 150m of the 15lb daiwa tournament yellow braid which is quite thin in diameter. with just a light covering of mono backing. Plus 200+m of sunline super Pe 10lb on the other spool.I have found it makes it easier if you look at diameters instead of breaking strain when choosing line as they are all very different. It should say diameter mm / metres on the box somewhere.
  16. Bought a couple of these today.A 45 and a 60 (there was only 1 or 2 60g left)Will be trying them down at cape jervis tomorrow.Hopefully they are the goods.
  17. HEYYYY!! PETA! LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE!!!!!!That's how the song goes right?
  18. If you are located in the Hills, Mt Barker Camping World/Compleat angler stock the Catana Rods. Also the Starlo Classix 722 squidgy spin light is around $70
  19. This happened to my old mans rod on Sunday morning. They held it against the metal rail on the boat and they could see it sparking. Crazy!Apparently if you hold the rod under water it sort of 'discharges' it.
  20. Yeah go the Rarenium. As Southie said the Rarenium comes with a Spare spool.None of the reels mentioned come with a spare anymore to my knowledge. Also believe the Rarenium is cheaper.Did I mention the Shimano Rarenium there?
  21. I would stick to 2500 sized reels with that rod. 1000s are for the 1-4kg etc flicksticks. So the only reason you want a 1000 is less line capacity? As the weight isn't different if you go with a 2500 ci4 bodied reel. Line capacity is like car or health insurance you don't need it, till you need it.A 1000 sized ci4 will be far too light for that rod IMO.One of the major benefits of buying a Rarenium over the reels mentioned is you get a spare spool. As the new stradics don't come with one and neither do the new sustains and biomasters I believe.
  22. Thought I would share my experience, first time using circles on Whiting.Bought some size 2 and size 4 Mustad Demon light gauge circle hooks.Tied up my own paternosters with some 15lb fluorocarbon and the size 4s. Making sure the hooks were snelled the right way round. So the leader sort of continues the circle. Fishing 10lb braid. (Could go lighter, unsure if we were going to fish deep or not)Finally found a school of whiting off St. Kilda Yesterday afternoon.I can say, I definitely see the benefits of these hooks. The bite to hook up ratio was great. Just didn't strike and used just a slow sm
  23. I use a Rogue Backpack.Has 4 slide out boxes fair amount of miscellaneous storage above the boxes,Sunglass compartment, has velcro rings on the side for rods (if you are doing some serious trekking). One of the best purchases I have made.
