  1. West Lakes down at the Trimmer Parade end should be okay. If you're happy taking her on a jetty there is the one down at Garden Island that has been producing a few STs. It's fairly high off the water though.
  2. Yes and no. You can use ordinary line as a leader if you're just making a rig for say, garfish or whiting or if you're attaching a simple lure for Salmon. Sometimes I even just cut a meter off my main line to use for a rig.Other types of 'specialty' fishing, bream for example, you would probably use a fluorocarbon leader line as it's much harder to see under water and better for bream because they're a bit fussy.Sometimes you might want to use a heaver leader, say 10 - 20lb heavier than your main line if you're chasing toothy's like Snook. There are different lines for different jobs and you'll
  3. Trace line and leader are one and the same.Basically it's the last 50cm or so of your line, the business end. Sometimes, depending on the type of fishing you are doing you might want to use a heavier or lighter trace line than your main line. Here is a great article on leader line and why you should use it: http://www.seabreeze.com.au/Articles/Fishing/Which-leader-line-should-I-use-and-why_5227183.aspx
  4. Typical spin reel seat: The reel fits into the slots on the metal rings and the bottom ring screws up and tightens until the reel is flush and secure. You can't miss it.
  5. They do but they also have a very tight' date=' powerful swimming action. I find ripping them past a school will get a follow or a strike pretty regularly. I also use Stimulate Salt Water spray on them so that probably helps.
  6. What is wrong with some people? That's outrageous! Never had any dealings with Reidy's but I can empathise with them. :(Hope those thieving pricks get what's coming to them.
  7. Couldn't see this posted anywhere yet so: http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/hammerhead-sharks-become-protectedOnly seems to affect Great and Scalloped Hammerheads in NSW so far.
  8. I'm mostly land based but I'll be in it. Got some trips to Port Lincoln and Coffins coming up so I was going to have a crack at 'em anyway.
  9. lol these threads are the best. I like my trusty Daiwa Double Clutch Phantom for hard bodies. Salmon go spaz for this lure and it's also great on Snook.Plastics I don't think there's much that beats the 3" Powerbait minnows, especially in the pearl watermelon colour on a clear day.Lately I have also been having success with the Atomic Ripperz 4" Minnow.
  10. Really enjoyed that mate, well done. Those wrigglers are deadly!
  11. Hold a cigarette lighter under the tip until the glue melts then pull it off . Glue new tip into place(can get them from most tackle stores). If it's for anything bigger than whiting or gar you might need to do something better, but that'll do it for all your bread and butter fishing.
  12. PB for me is 63cm, not sure what it weighed. Biggest I've seen was 70cm by my step-father.Both caught the same day from Snooks Landing in Pt Lincoln many moons ago. Bagged out that day with all fish being 50+.Apparently the Australian Record is 2.3kg according to Fishnet(not sure how accurate their info is). Wikipedia lists them as growing to 72cm and 4.8kg in weight but that's got to be a mistake.
  13. I've always thought the total ban on artificial reefs was not well thought out.Surely if the Government regulated the use of materials that could be used to construct a reef (perhaps tyres or pre-made modules or something) and specified certain large zones where it was fine to create reefs it could only be a good thing?Saves the govvy money since we'll be doing all the hard work and keeps rec/pro anglers happy? Win-win?
  14. Fair nuff lol.It was bought at the Gepps Cross markets I think.
  15. Hey all,Has anyone heard of this brand before? A customer of mine has brought this rod in for me to look and to get my opinion. It's solid glass and heavy and the whole rod is clear. It looks to be well built (nicely bound, fuji guides etc) but as I've never heard of this brand before I was unsure. The customer was unsure of the price range it was in as it was a present. Being solid glass it is very stiff and it feels like it could pull the plug out of the bottom.Anyone have any experience with these? I could not find much info on them on the net or even a picture of one.Cheers,Ugly.
  16. Cheers 4THA. I have had a flick of these and you're right. Lost mine on a snag though.
  17. Cracker! On a lure makes it even better in my book! Well done.
  18. lol they just got the camera Kingsley... it'd be a pity if my Ugly mug broke it so soon.
  19. Thanks state. I think I will change them up tomorrow and have a go.

    Grips?

Honestly never bothered me. I just wipe down the reel and the guides and any parts likely to rust/corrode. As for the smell... well... we ARE fishermen right? Most of my rods have scales all over the grips. They're little reminders that I do actually catch fish sometimes!
  21. Quick side question on the topic of lures; I've been considering changing the trebles on my lure for single circle hooks. Any advice? I was thinking of removing the front treb entirely and just running one circle on the back because I'm sick of how much damage the trebs do to a fish's mouth when I am not going to keep them.Is it as simple as just replacing them?
