  1. Just a bit of pictorial clarification:
  2. There is some really good information here regarding Catch and Release and handling procedures. Even if you're planning on keeping your fish it doesn't hurt to make a habit of good handling practices.http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/saltwater/catch-and-release
  3. The only thing that I can find that's even close is a Pompano Dolphin fish:
  4. Don't think it matters much, since the rig/leader is what the fish will be seeing. I've found that the Moss Green Power Pro is almost impossible for me to see and so I don't like it much any more.I tend to use white Stren Microfuse because it's very visible but the new Orange Power Pro 'Bite Motion' is looking good too.
  5. Remember that you also need to fish the conditions. It's no good trying to fish a 1/32oz jighead when it's windy no matter what outfit or technique, you're just going to get blown around. Don't be afraid to up the weight to suit the wind/tides etc.
  6. He's just cruisin' as usual, thinking he's top dog and then BAM... GT Attack.
  7. I mostly agree here, but the biggest problem that I can see is the short, sharp extraction of fish right before and after the closure. It's sustainable to take (lets say) 3000 tonnes from the fishery over a year, but when you take 3000 tonnes of fish out of the fishery in the course of a single month...? That cannot be good for the entire ecosystem. A yearly quota won't stop that from happening unfortunately.I pretty much agree with everything you say about Recs though.
  8. Squidgies and Berkley Powerbaits (not the Gulp!) I find have a huge life out of the packet. I had a few sitting next to me which had been out of the packet for probably a year (use them occasionally on ST's out the front of the shop) and they're fine. This one is an Atomic which I've been using on and off for a year or so and hasn't been back in the packet since I took it out:
  9. Power Pro or Stren Microfuse. The 2lb Microfuse (white) I have on my Jewel has been going strong for nearly 3 years now. Great stuff, can't recommend it highly enough. The Power Pro I really like, but I've found the Moss Green colour to be impossible to see and so I don't really like it for lure casting any more.
  10. Definitely not what I see on a weekday with good weather at North Haven. You'd be better off looking at a picture of the car park rather than the ramp. Quite often have the car park half full before lunch time if the forecast is good.

  12. Someone asked for a stickied thread containing all the boat ramp cam links. Your wish is our command! 13. Quick sesh down at Outer Harbor after knocking off work. Switched to bait for a change as I have been having zero luck on plastics lately. First cast produced a little tommy who was unfortunately gut hooked, so he's now gonna be Snapper bait. A few more casts, some small sts and then whack! A nice little run and up comes this guy:Popped him back and after a few more small sts and a couple of undersize KGW I called it a day as lightening started up in the distance.
  14. Personally a big fan of the 65mm Squidgy Wriggler:http://www.squidgies.com.au/squidgywriggler.aspx
  15. We had probably ten fresh Snapper frames on the North Haven ramp a week into the ban. Some a**hole obviously doing the wrong thing has caught them, come in early and dumped the frames. Really sad and quite pathetic that people can't wait one month to have a fish.
  16. Well' date=' for example: A man is arrested for going to peoples houses and presenting himself as a 'plumber'. He has no licence and no qualifications. The headline should not read, "Plumber fined for not having qualifications." or anything similar because the man has no association with real plumbers. It should read, "Con artist scamming people by pretending to be plumber" or something like that. Neither should the story contain a warning such as, "The federal plumbers association chief warns all plumbers to make sure their qualifications are up to date." because this guy is [u']not[/u] a plu
  17. Sorry Jaffa, I am a little concerned about what your agenda is here? Forgive me if I am judging you a little harshly but it seems you're less concerned about the article itself and more concerned about what TB has to say about the article (which as you've pointed out, everyone has a right to their own opinion). A poacher. Yes, you're right. We do have freedom of press in this country. However if the press reports something that blatantly goes against hard facts or is deliberately misleading then I see no problem in questioning them.Whether or not that's the case with this story comes down t
  18. The line doesn't have to be 'tight' as in pulling straight from the tip of your rod to the water in a straight line. As long as it's not bowing right out in the wind a little bit of slack is not a problem. Here's a really' date=' really dodgy drawing that kind of illustrates what I am talking about... a bit hard to convey it through text.
  19. After work sessions most days this week at the outer harbour boat ramp, snowdens and 'spot x' all with squidgy wriggler soft plastics. Here's a photo of my catch: Plans to switch to bait and target yfw along the Largs beach front on my next few RDO's.
  20. Rod: I find it doesn't matter as much about the rating of the rod (I fish with a 4 - 8kg Jewel mostly) but 8ft is a great length for land based fishing. I would not go less than 7ft if you can help it. What matters most is the tip. When fishing for whiting and other estuary species a sensitive tip is the best so you can see all the little nibbles. You'll catch a lot more fish with a sensitive tip than something that's reasonably stiff right through.Reel: Doesn't matter. Cheap and nasty will work fine for most bread and butter species. You can pick up something like a Shimano FX 2500 or 3000 fo
  21. joining safwaa is a great idea but if you're after a feed they are catch and release only as far as I am aware. Perhaps not for Redfin though, being that they're a pest.K2L, one of your best bets is going to be heading to a few private properties, knocking on the owners door and asking very nicely if they would mind if you had a fish in their streams, dams etc. This is how you'll access the some of the best areas (as most of them are privately owned).A friend and I used to drop letters into peoples mail boxes when we wanted to hunt on their property explaining who we were, what we wanted to do
  22. More 'personal experience' here but I frequently shop online for random stuff that you either can't get in Australia or is stupidly over priced here.Been with PayPal since their inception and never an issue. If I can't pay for something online using PayPal then I don't buy it.
  23. My favorite Ugly Stik, currently paired with a Pfleuger Trinity is my go to combo for light fishing on any smaller species around AdelaideThe Ugly is older than I am and doesn't have the rating or any details on it any more but it's 6ft and approx 1-4kg and has a very slow taper, bending right through the blank. One of the originals that you can almost tie in a knot! Great little rod that has seen many many fish in it's lifetime. The Trinity is roughly 1500, 2000 in size and spooled with 2lb Power Pro. Bought it on a whim in Kiama NSW when I was on holidays and it's never let me down since. Th
