  1. that second shot is fantastic!
  2. Just a guess by the American accents but I'd say California. They get some big ones over there.
  3. But also as kon pointed out, there is no actual ban on shark fishing, only on the types of gear that can be used between certain hours. So I'd like to know how they can fine anyone else and exactly what gear the poor blokes been fined for!
  4. Angler first to be fined under new laws. What?? No it wasn't! NO one was using berley last year. It all started with that picture from Triple M! Article also doesn't explicitly mention what actual offence he was fined for.
  5. Lots of oil too. Plenty of Tuna oil mixed through. As far as I know it's illegal to use straight blood and chunks of flesh (chum), but fish pieces as UHF said should bring them around.
  6. Couple of quick pics:Not bad for a mobile phone camera!
  7. It's not much, but at least it's not negative for a change: http://www.smh.com.au/environment/conservation/bad-press-puts-sharks-in-danger-20121103-28qqg.html
  8. I notice at the bottom of the article they're happy to leave in: Only slightly insinuating that it must be the above picture, now that they've removed the actual attribution.
  9. I can see your point there Aus if fishing from a beach. I wouldnt want 20-50lb mono or braid being dragged across me as I waded/swam' date=' by 2 metres of unhappy Bronzy ! Thats gonna hurt ! Probably a diferent scenario froma Jetty tho.[/quote']What's the difference between a bronzie or a big snapper or a big mully, if that's all we're worried about? Not talking about this guy in particular, but you're gonna get that same scenario fishing for heaps of different species other than sharks.
  10. Well, when I spend money its ALWAYS at Tackle & Tucker North Haven because they're the best of the best!! lol, but seriously, I've spent money in most of the shops northside as even though I work in a tackle store, I still like to go for a wander and browse and I'm a bit of an impulse buyer. I definitely fall victim to the 'catches the fisherman more than the fish' adage. :pThe only places I refuse to spend my money are Big W or any of those larger chain stores. They are simply killing all us small shops by making it impossible to compete price-wise.
  11. I don't really want to start a 'war' by posting either but I've gotta put my opinion on the table on this topic as well.I understand the community concerns that it can be perceived as dangerous but I'd argue that the 100+ years of shark fishing history off the Adelaide metro coastline entirely negates any concerns of apparent danger. If it is as dangerous as people claim then why have we seen zero shark attacks which are directly attributable to people fishing for sharks?? In 100+ years? I've struggled to even find one incident in any state in Australia. This should put to rest any fears anyone
  12. Looks like wire trace in the pic to me too.
  13. I think I've fished land based for squid more than anything else in my life. Never used fluoro. Always been fine with 20lb mono, a cheap, throwaway Neptune jag and a loop tied straight to the end of the line. Sometimes a float. That being said, there's no reason that fluoro wouldn't increase your chances if the squid were feeling picky that day. As Gazza said, anything which gives you an advantage is probably worth the effort but for straight up jetty squidding, heavy mono is no problem.
  14. I stickied this so it's nice and easy for everyone to find! Great thread. Here's my 2c - I stepped out behind the St Kilda shop earlier and threw some soft plastics around on my Abu Garcia Black Max combo for zero results! Too many boats around today for there to be much around the shop end of the channel.
  15. Locks Well is definitely an iconic Eyre Peninsula Salmon spot. Elliston is not bad for the west coast either and they host a fairly big competition there most years.I suspect that one of the things that bring Salmon back to any given spot is the prevalence of food (bait fish schools) that move through those areas at certain times of year.
  16. If you want to use it for bigger fish I'd suggest just making rigs out of it, instead of using it as a 'leader'. Personally I think it would work well for Mulloway. Those Silver Ghosts are illusive at the best of times (unless your name is Jack) and any advantage you can get is a good one in my books.Edit: The Mully Master has beaten me to it! ^ Listen to him not me, he catches the fish!
  17. The thing about fluorocarbon is that it has the same refractive index as water, which means it's almost totally invisible when immersed. It's great for finicky fish who get spooked easily. Wouldn't worry about it if you're targeting Salmon, Snook, KGW, Snapper etc but for Bream, YFW, Flathead and others it can give you a good advantage.
  18. Done and done mate. Good luck.Very well put together, asking all the pertinent questions.
  19. I bought an Abu Garcia Black Max combo (a step down from the Pro I think) and have been very happy with it. Like you I'd never owned a baitcaster before I bought it.
