  1. Lazy bait sesh tomorrow up the Warren and with water levels high will be up in the timber. But with clear water deep diving lures will work well. Hoping to get another Cod and next time I get one it will be going on the brag mat coz it sucks having to take photos of them in the water when fishing solo. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  2. I remember a time up the Warren Reservoir very early morning when there were tiny icicles hanging off the braid. Also remember a time up on the houseboat my folks used to own when the shrimp pot ropes stuck to the rails on the side. And the first Cod I ever caught was at Blanchetown many years ago at 2am in the morning and freezing cold and all my mates were asleep in their tents and swags. Some of my best fishing memories are during cold weather but I must admit I am definitely a summer person. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  3. But this one time a school of silver perch swam through at Nappers Bridge. Caught ten all the same size as this. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  4. Might have been a big Port Jackson shark. Caught a few off the stones at Outer Harbour and they do the same as you describe. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  5. Plenty of these at Morgan. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  6. Got a shack at Barmera so the river around Cobdogla, Kingston and Overland Corner are my favourite spots to get out in the boat. Take the swag to other places downstream and in the last 12 months have camped at Waikerie, Morgan, Walker Flat and Mannum. Morgan has been the most productive recently and Cadell is also good landbased coz it is a narrow stretch of river but having said that I caught my PB 52cm callop at Walker Flat and then dropped my phone in the water and lost the photo. Nappers Bridge on Lake Bonney is my favourite carp fishing spot in all SA. Every fish swimming into or out
  7. My fishing depends on my free time from work lately. Both days on the weekend then one or two days during the week if I finish early. Mostly freshwater and if it isn't a lazy sit down bait sesh I will be throwing lures about. Usually the Warren Reservoir or Murray on weekends and then fishing local metro muddy puddles during the week. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  8. And I find you don't need to find the salmon school with vibrating blades coz the school tunes in to the noise and they all move toward it. And I find swapping the trebles to high end single hooks reduces the cabbage caught up and makes a better hook up. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  9. I dig my own bloodworms and dip them live in metho which makes them seize up and toughen up then freeze them. Can see the method working on nippers and beach worms also. Bream don't seem fussed about metho if you fish a whole bloodworm preserved in metho but they get picky if you cut the worms up coz they don't look natural. Also heard stories about the folks who sprayed their lures in WD-40 and caught good fish off the jetties. If you can source some nippers with your bait pump I would say put them live in metho before you freeze them so they don't soften up. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using
  10. Just checked and my Symetre is a 1500. Bought it years ago and looks a bit worn on the outside but all internal components still work smooth as silk. Another good low priced Shimano reel is the Sedona. Got a few Sedonas from 1000s to 4000s on my heavier rods for freshwater natives and I think they are the ducks nuts. And you can't beat the 10 year warranty on all Shimano reels from the Siennas up. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  11. Interested in testing out that hook rigging technique using shrimp and yabbies on freshwater natives. Pin through the mouth and pop the hook out on top of the carapace at the back of the head. It will kill the crustacean but should make a good bait presentation. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  12. Those reels really punch above their weight. This was a Symetre 2500 matched up with a Raider 1-4kg rod. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  13. Strikepro Cyber Vibes or Tackle Tactics Swichblades. They are both good and they cast a mile. And they vibrate like crazy. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  14. Ever used blades in the suds Doobie? Used them with success at the bottom of Yorkes at Suicide Point. Also used smaller versions at St Kilda and Outer Harbour breakwall. Agree with swapping the trebles with singles...less stress. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  15. Big crawlers or big scrubworms. And if you keep getting small pickers you need to move location. Little fish avoid big fish coz they get eaten.[emoji6] Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk

  17. Otherwise use light flouro 8lb or less so if the stinger gets snagged it will busy off easy and you will keep your lure. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  18. Gave up using HBs in West Lakes with treble hooks and changed over to single hooks and occasionally a stinger hook tied on. You won't catch as many fish but you will catch better fish. If the lure doesn't pin them the stinger often does. Attach the stinger with 3cm of red wool coz it looks like a blood trail behind the lure. Makes salmon go nuts. 19. Amazing things we get to see and enjoy while fishing. And catching a good fish is just the icing on the cake. Watching them swim away free is even better. My photo is the Warren Reservoir at the end of shift. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  20. Yeah I still believe that both saltwater southern black bream and freshwater silver perch are both equal in the power to weight ratio when it comes to the fight. And silver perch is one of the most gorgeous looking fish you can catch in the Murray or other places you might find them. Anybody else got a deep cut from the gill rakers when caught unawares? Handle with care.[emoji6][emoji6][emoji6] Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  21. Hey that thing is a horse. My biggest is nothing like that. But I do agree they fight like saltwater bream. Never caught a silver on lure yet. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  22. 400 fish in a season is a very reasonable catch. 1000 is but a wish for trout hunters here in SA. Keep up living the dream down there mate. Coz you are sure keeping me motivated to keep trying myself. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  23. Some amazing and sensational country you are fishing mate and some great fish you are catching. Hope you are keeping warm this winter down there is Tassie coz it sure is frosty here in SA.
  24. Great footage mate. Wish we had the rivers like you have in Tassie to explore here in SA. We have a few if you know where to find them but having said that I still like targeting redfin so they are the waters I fish most. Sometimes it is just great being out in beautiful countryside and fishing. Love your work mate. Sent from my SM-J120ZN using Tapatalk
  25. Just remember to reel in fast when the wave is breaking so the line doesn't foul up the hook at the back. Wish I had my Granddads rod now but I still have an Alvey reel matched up with a Wilson 10ft one piece rod that lives in my dining room. But these days I use Spanyid Raiders or big blades coz they cast accurately right next the salmon schools and don't spook the fish. Old metal lures are the ducks nuts coz they cast a mile and never say die but they also have some bad habits and don't copy the action of a wounded baitfish. Big blades are also good but the trebles are prone to gathering
