  1. Will be using mainly for trout, bream, small school jew and redfin.Might get the occasional flick at a small to medium reds if I put some 10lb braid on it but highly unlikely as a stella only comes with the one spool dont they?
  2. I have been in the market for a new rod.Originally I wanted something similar to a STEEZ ie plenty of bling with split eva grips and in the 1-3kg or 2-4kg range.Daiwa does make a few nice sticks and I was tempted but I really wanted something in Shimano.I must admit, there wasnt alot of total quality sticks from Shimano out there IMO.I got looking on Plat in Japan and was like whoaaah. Now theres a good looking stick. Yes I know its got cork grips, but I am a fan. Its a rod designed by Jackal and made by Shimano! Its like the best of both worlds. Now to wait till my tax cheque comes in and spe
  3. Yes' date=' the Majority of the fish were in an around the Pt Stanvac area, but at this point in time im not prepared to go back and provide numbers and specific locations as this would be quite time consuming, and I suspect that you really are aware that the majority were north and south of the Desal along the Southern coastline, with smaller numbers around Brighton. This brings up an important point though, why hasn't the Government publicised a map of recorded points at which fish and other animals have been located dead? This has been requested for some time by by Dan Manceux but as yet n
  4. Oh guys were do we start on that last lot of tripe.Yes I am fully aware that Jochen is implying/saying that the influx of freshwater has in effect caused an algal bloom. The possibility of the Desal being a major part of causing the algal bloom was always on the radar. That is not a new concept. I believe Tacklebags also was wondering if the desal may have helped to trigger the bloom.Jochen was employed by the council to give his opinion on wether the desal was going to cause any problems with the marine environment when the EIS was being released back in 2008. Isnt it strange that back the
  5. Here is the story as seen on Today tonight by Professor Jochen Kaempf, showing evidence that the DESAL was the cause of localised fish kills.http://www.todaytonightadelaide.com.au/?page=Story&StoryID=1651
  6. Yes circles are deadly. I use twin circles on every bait I throw at snapper except for whiting heads where I will use a single 6/0. All my circles are Gamakatsu Octopus circles and are set in strike/fighting drag whilst sitting in the rod holder or if im holding the rod at the time.Quite often when fishing in amongst ruggers its possible to leave your rod in the holder and numerous ruggers will tap at it until finally one that is big enough will swallow the hook and load your rod up.All of our big reds are caught this way, but normally with big baits ie whole tommies, big chunks of squid or h
  7. Snapper & Trout lol @Discovery Journey, have you not caught a Red Bass in your travels?
  8. Are crabs and prawns the first to react to the effects of hyper salination? Its odd that you havent noticed a steady decline in the last five months and have not seen any at all. This to me indicates more that although the stocks are down, that they have infact not shown up in your area.
  9. Thats the exact same way I fillet my garfish! same knife and all :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  10. Wisdom, I do however want to apologise for saying that you where whinging in my previous post.I'm sure there would be many that might be sick of my stance on protecting snapper at all costs, and my unashamed Pro Snapper agenda. Please accept my apology for using those words as I do find your posts interesting and valuable.Brett
  11. For every new artificial reef that is laid or placed on the bottom you create food.I look at our snapper fishery and immediately think, to maintain large populations of predatory fish such as snapper you are going to need a lot of food. 20 years ago there was more scollaps, mussell beds and more sea grass beds to support food items.I think we are now at the point in this gulf that Snapper are having to eat practically any food item they find. Ie i have caught snapper that have barely had anything in their stomachs. Those snapper anglers that do use the artificial reefs successfully are norma
  12. Each to their own I guess. I mean I would spend that amount on some to jig for monster reds, but wouldn't throw them at salmon. But if your hoping to land a TROPHY SAMBO on one, then it could then be worth the investment?
  13. Got a couple of squid off Rapid bay jetty with Jewie, and also hit a few Southern Redfin, but the Kings didnt show up!!
  14. Biggest capture was a big Ray from Semaphore jetty that took a live tommy. It took me ages to bring it in on my GH Viper and 4500J Phantom. This thing would of been 5ft+ across. A genuine back breaking monster! I think Bjorn did do some stints on the rod though so not sure if that counts. lolBut the most memorable fight I ever had, I didnt land the fish but suspect it was a monster Murray cod of 60+ plus pounds and then someThis cod took me on numerous massive long steady runs, as I was only using six pound mono and this thing was not going to budge once in close. I hooked it on a purple tas
  15. Also take with you a red and black Matuka for blind casting. These are a deadly wet fly on Lake rainbows.Oops just read Projoes response. didnt see it before I posted
  16. Im currently using Ugly fish Acetates with Carl Zeiss custom polarised blue lenses. These are amazing on the water! But I had to have these made up as I wear prescription lenses. Getting Carl Zeiss to build custom lenses isnt cheap either and I was lucky to know people that could get it done for me.I have to say if you were going to buy an off the shelf pair, Smiths from the USA would be right up there.
  17. Did you have any major problems with sealice out there last night?Sullies was fricken terrible. Baits coming up like they were covered in living rice bubbles.
  18. Congrats mate, any Big Red over 60cm is a good fish!
  19. I dont want to start any arguments, but I just want to straight out mention that I think these are totally lame!    You wouldn't spot me fishing with one of these even if the sponsors approached me and offered to give me five for free!
  20. I mean you should be having a shower a day at home anyway Yorkey, so whats one or two more on the jetty going to hurt. lol???
  21. Ive fished in some pretty radical storms on jetties and never had a problem. or atleast I dont recall ever having been struck by lightning. LOL :woohoo: :woohoo: Not to say you wont be the first though lol.
  22. Yeah I would be going for sure. Specially if your targetting reds. Make sure you take an extra block of pillies just to get a cube trail going.
