  1. That is a good point about sounding up schools in Preparation, but I think the Mackeral are yet to arrive? Havent heard any reports of them being here yet TB. Think they dont arrive for atleast another couple of weeks.
  2. I have to totally agree with the statement "If PIRSA Managed the Pros better we wouldn't need a ban at all"I also agree with Kon, in that PIRSA needs to stay WELL away from Spatial Closures!I think all anglers and coastal communities are PRAYING that they do not go down this route. Surely the new reduced bag limits this year, and extended ban next year (if put into place permanently), along with reduced trip limits for pros, will then be enough and sufficient measures to protect our stock well into the next few decades.
  3. The Vics dont have a ban, but the Victorian fishery was hit hard over ten plus years ago and the fishery was in dire straights. They introduced tight bag and reduced size limits, and things are picking up very rapidly. But still the size of the fish over there is a lot smaller with fish averaging 3-6kg.It is my opinion and from what Ive seen it is the Victorian Charter operators that are taking quite considerable numbers of fish in Victoria
  4. mate that is appalling and makes me pretty dam mad!!These scumbags dont care about the species at all!To hear that there are boats on the Barges is really disappointing. To take a keep a Big Red during the ban is a pretty low act. I'd say up there with poaching Abolone.Yep Lowlifes!!!!!
  5. Nice link, yes I've been using those hook set ups for past 7 or so years and rarely drop a hooked fish. As Nickmav said its great for whole big dead or alive fish baits. With live baits though its better to have the circle hook through just the top lip only, so it can open its mouth letting the livie live longer, and the second hook halfway along its body just pierced under its backbone. Most of my big reds fall to Mack heads rigged through the mouth.I find 8/0 better for live Mack's and 6/0 more suited to 1/2 dead Mack's and whole dead Tommie's. :cheer: :cheer:
  6. Hi TBmI'm sure its not intended to bring dis-repute to rec anglers, they are just pointing out that he had neither a rec or commercial license. In Victoria as you know recs are required to pay an annual fishing license. He failed to pay.Had he had a recreational license and had he not been banned for previous offences, he as a recreational fisherman would have been able to take x number of abolone provided it was from a legal location to take said abolone. So to use a similar analagy this is like the police saying he was unregistered, that is all.In my opinion even with them mentioning this, it
  7. Still unsure if your having a dig at me or not kon. Nah Kon is definately not having a dig at you Grazz. The interesting question is whats going to happen to the death ship now? How long will it remain in Pt Lincoln.Brett
  8. Heres a letter I saw on the Halco Tackle website by Tim Carter which kind of sums up the whole debarcle.I never thought I would get to the point that I had to write this.As a responsible recreational angler for over 40 years, I have stuck by government imposed size and bag limits, fisheries closures to allow for spawning aggregations and been involved in scientific fish tagging programmes to name but a few aspects of my fishing life.I have always stuck by the rules but today seals the day that I b...ecome an anarchist in relation to fisheries management.Today, federal environment minister Tony
  9. Typo - keen to see the Nitro rods in action
  10. Great footage. Been keen to see the intros in action and also see how good the drag on a Saragossa is. Some real exciting action there! :woohoo:Western Port firing bigtime!
  11. Snapper being lovers of carp fillets, I would say would take Basa fillets or chunks no probs at all. After all when they are hungry they will eat almost anything :woohoo: :side:
  12. I Have recently been having a ball using a Millerod 3-5kg control freak and Shimano Ultegra Advance 3000 high gear, but it's really hanging for December. It really doesn't like Novembers
  13. What a DISGRACE - all of those politicians and those people in power that introduced this rule to see a young man fined and potentially put through financial hardship over doing a sport or leisure activity that they love, just because the general population isn't smart enough to realise that they have been scare mongered into believing that these sharks are causing danger to them should be ashamed of themselves! The day this fine was handed to this poor young lad was a sad day in South Australia's history! He quite clearly should of just gone out and got wasted on alchohol that afternoon or just
  14. I wouldnt be so sure that High Geared reels are not suited to Snapper soft plastics. Often when fishing for reds you are doing a 4-5foot lift and drop and I find the high gear of my Ultegra to be a plus, it allows you to take up the slack line effortlessly and stay in total touch with your softy. you just have to give it a nice gentle revolution while you plastic is sinking back to the bottom. The other advantage is that when you think you are too close to your burley pot or the boat you can just rip the last 10-20m of line in in no time flat. it also helps if you make a poor cast and want to r
  15. If you ring up the fish factory on Grand Junction Road and ask if there is anyway you can get some fish frames from them, they are normally happy for you to come down and grab what they throw out. You can normally fill half a bucket easy. That way you can have a nice stream of fish peices going out of your burley pot. This works a treat on Big Reds and should work a treat for sharks as well'
  16. Okay here goes.If you want the best prices in Australia on Rods n Reels you either go R&A's or MoTackle.R&S's IMO is better for online purchasing, as I find they almost always have everything in stock where Mo's often runs out, and then tries to replace what you've ordered with a similar product. Which is often not good enough.I must say though that R&A's have always looked after me. Yes Bruce can be a bit of a dick, but hey he's providing super cheap tackle for every tom dick or harry in SA.There in store service does leave a little to be desired, but hey Im pretty sure I know e
  17. Any pics or a report atleast to come?cheers,Brett
  18. We've now sadly got to face the facts that a STUPID Law was implemented. It IS quite possible that this person only fishes for sharks in Summer, does not frequent any fishing sites or forums such as ours, and has not heard about the rules. He or she could even have moved here from interstate and have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE, that you can't catch sharks off our METRO BEACHES during daylight ours.I think its classic and HIGHLIGHT's how poor the ruling is. Now youve got PIRSA having to investigate something that has been done for the past 100 odd years with no incidents. what a silly waste of tax pay
  19. As long as you can pull line off the spool by hand and not break the braid the you should be fine. Me an Boyo have hooked some nice ruggers on floating circles before and these reds although small were hitting the baits at a million miles an hour.. My thoughts are the longer u give a red to feel your hooks in its mouth the more chance you have of it dropping the bait so I never use free spool ever and very rarely ever drop a fish. Ie good solid strike drag set when either on bottom rig or on your floater and use an upright or 45 degree rod holder in the boat so your rod doesnt launch out and i
  20. This sounds good... But im pretty sure using meat from land is prohibited. Will look into this defiantly but not to sure if i wanna go breaking the law You are permitted to use mince for catching mullet, your just not allowed to use offal to burley in sharks, and strangely we know all about sharks here on S&H LOL thanks to the new shark laws.
  21. One of my biggest tips is to buy and use a berley pot. When you think about it no matter where you fish landbased, most of the fish are either spread out due to numerous bait along the jetty or they are just spread over a wide area.If you use a burley pot just with Aniseed burley you are dramatically increasing your chance of catching tommies, gar in summer but in winter it increases your chances of catching salmon trout as wellAs others have said you need to make sure your hook is the right size to hook whats in your burley trail. Learn to understand what depths fish swim at and feed at. Gar
