  1. Hugo , yeah nice rod mate! That would be great for SP's and having some fun with big snapper for sure cheers.
  2. Just an update, for anyone looking at one... I ended up picking up the new Daiwa Saltist Extreme (saltist hyper's big brother) last night from Ray and Annes. Got the 64CJS-2/4 which is PE2-4, got a really nice, smooth action and is very light weight. Comes with Fuji Sic SUS guides, X45 blank etc. http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/saltist-extreme-rods/ They retail for $400, so not the cheapest rod but they seem to be off a seriously good quality.. cant wait to roll some snapps with it will post pics etc once I do. cheers.
  3. here is a photo of the hair rig / boillies in one of my carp spots in the torrens... pretty average photo, but its all I got on my phone. cheers.
  4. Here is a photo of my bollies.. ive made them before, but much better the pre made ones as theyre firmer and more consistent size. cheers.
  5. Yeah there good, I've got about 30 bollies left atm, there garlic and hemp! haven't used them yet, pretty keen to give them a crack though!! PVA bags are a plastic type material bag that you drop your whole rig into, fill it with all sorts of dry berley, tie the bag off and throw it in... they dissolve in about 30seconds and leaves your hook/bait covered in a big pile of berley, so when the mud marlins come through the chomp down everything including your rig. Underpants - what do you want to know mate? Cheers.
  6. I run hair rigs all the time boys, and I make my own boilies at home, or I buy them when therye available... they work great in the torrens for big carp! in the murray ive found hair rigs pretty average though, needs to be dead still water I recon... I also run pva bags when I want to get real fancy ahah. To run hair-rigs, you need the specialty rigs and boilies stoppers, which are little plastic tabs that you insert into the hair rig loop to stop the boilie sliding off.. also need a boilie needle, to put them on... hope this makes sense! ive got photos on my photo of my rigs and baits. che
  7. Fair enough mate! Might be worth changing the roller bearing / roller every year or so I guess.. would still be annoying though, after spending $1200 like you said. Will be waiting for the new specs that's for sure cheers.
  8. I really like the gamakatsu octopus hooks, I've actually only just gone and ditched everything in my tackle box and just bought heaps of them.. Also dont mind blackmagic for my small stuff either.
  9. Stealthy, Not having a go mate all good just thought you might have got a dud that's all, no dramas! Hopefully they do some nice changes to the new one anyway, lot of people are waiting for the specs to be released I recon lol. Cheers.
  10. I don't personally own a saltiga (yet), but ive got mates with a few of them and they have never had any issues what so ever... they use it for tuna trolling, jigging for sambos and kingies too!
  11. cant wait to see the specs on the new saltiga should be a weapon! I like the stellas, but if im spending that much, id go saltiga every day of the week.
  12. Gen Black. That is all... ahaha
  13. Well the seabass is around $140, so its pretty cheap for what you get
  14. depends on what you want to spend, but id recommend a daiwa seabass SB 86ML. Its 8ft 6" and rated at 3-6kg. The tip is VERY sensitive and is awesome for whiting / flathead in the shallows flicking SP's. Would be great for land based gar / tommies as well.
  15. Mate I've got two generation blacks and I love them both!! I've got the Itchy twitchy 2 (1.5-3kg) and the wicked weasel (2-6kg).. I use them for everything from trout in the hills to whiting / snapper! Very light weight and good value for money. Highly recommend them
  16. ive got a daiwa emblem surf 5500 on mine and its fine mate! but as the others have said, waterproofing tape, electrical tape etc will all do the same thing.

    Identify Rod

Projoe - Incase you wondering, I dropped the rod off at fishermans paradise and you're correct its an old school silstar glass blank, I cant remember the exact model/number, but he's stripping the whole thing rod, putting on a new Fuji sik guide on the tip, fuji alconoties on the other 6 guides, Fuji deluxe reel seat, new grips, custom colouring / engraving, and putting a photo of a snapper on there for me aswell. Cant wait to get it back. He said the blank is actually really good and quite hard to come by these days, so I thought bugger it, why not make a killer rod out of it. Thanks for

    Identify Rod

Projoe - thanks heaps for the information, I got a feeling its a silstar too, and I wouldn't be surprised if its a glass / graphite composite, but I could be wrong as its probably a 10yr + old rod. Also why wouldn't you strip the rod?? One of the guide rings are broken and most of the others paints all chipped of them.. I love the blank, but thought some new, Alconite guides would make it a great rod. but im open to suggestions Thanks mate.
  20. I use either daiwa generation black (I have two of them) 1.5-3kg or 2-4kg, depending where im going fishing. OR I use my daiwa seabass 8ft 3-6kg, both are really nice rods and definitely recommend them. The seabass sounds over geared at 3-6kg, but due to its length its really sensitive in the tip and wont scull drag them back lol.
  21. Hi guys, Really hoping one of you guys can help me out here, my dad bought this rod a few years ago and I've had it sitting in my fishing rod stand for years, and I really want to find out what blank it is.. He recons when he purchased it, the rod was custom made. It looks to be glass to me, but its actually really light, so not sure. I'm thinking of getting it fixed up and putting some Fuji alconite guide's on there and start using it as a snapper rod. Thanks in advance.
  22. Nice mate!! I use these when I go carp fishing lol.. I also add heaps of crushed garlic + their juices, curry powder, tuna oil etc and seems to do well.
  23. Has no one used either of the rod?? lol
